We haven't been there yet but will remedy that. One of those places we've heard of but not seen. It looks absolutely breathtaking! The food looks fantastic, too. Croatia is pure magic...thank you for showing it so beautifully! It's my paradise.
So glad you enjoyed our video! Rastoke is a lovely place, and can be visited in a short amount of time. (Plus, we're still thinking about that great meal we had there - so good!)
Thank you for this video, I added it to my croatia itinerary after watching your video. Was there 3 weeks ago and I loved it. Thank you for the inspiration and sharing this adorable little place with us.
Finally you are visiting my hometown! I was actually born in a village just down the river Korana about one kilometer away from Rastoke. Moved to Canada at the age of fifteen long time ago, As a kid living there, I never thought of Rastoke as anything particularly special; just some waterfalls, mills, and that's about it. What's the big deal, we thought. They had lots mills there in my time, early to late 1960's - used to wait for Mom while she had wheat or corn milled at one of the mills; was rather boring time...Now, I understand only one mill works, and that's to show tourists how it used to be. Younger folks are not interested in running and maintaining the mills, plus you can buy flour in stores now! So, who needs mills. One of the bridges is getting replaced - apparently it's taking forever...contractor took the money and ran (hehe!). The other was fixed several years ago. The highway bridge (curved one) is the main way to get across river Korana. We, as kids, would walk through Rastoke to school, and back home every day - no school buses for us - including during Winter months when you could easily get a metre of snow there. The big pole - 7:40 - is a Indian Totem pole used as a prop in one of the German- Western movies ,Winnetou - (Milos should know about it). Private property where the pole sits is appararently owned by a school mate of mine dating back to the 1960's. I see he charges entry fees; I thought he was always a greedy bugger! Fairies...there is a legend that fairies used to appear to people in Rastoke. My Mom swore to God that it's true, "Yep, they are there". One of the waterfalls is named "Vilina kosa - Fairies hair". Up on the hill to the east of Rastoke is an old Napoleon-era warehouse - it's a ruin now, but it served French troops at the time of Napoleon. There is also another ruined castle a bit closer to the town of Slunj - served various troops that defended that part of the World against Ottoman Turks. Was actually blown up by Italian soldiers during WW2. Now, it's being fixed up thanks to EU money - what goes around, comes around, I guess, hehe. Two restaurants worthy of note in Rastoke; one is Petro's where you guys had dinner, and the other is "Bistro Kum", a pizza place. They make better pIzzas than what you will find in many parts of Italy including Rome. Thanks for visting my childhood home. Cheers! A long video of Rastoke I took a few years ago.. ua-cam.com/video/6wLQhWw4IDc/v-deo.html
Thanks for the lovely interesting history and details about Rastoke and the area! It's a wonderful place - so peaceful and pretty! Ah yes, we know of Winnetou . (Although I haven't seen it.) In Gorski Kotar, closer to where we live, there is a the village still standing that was the actual film set - like an old western town. That is also now open to tourists and available for parties. Thanks again for watching and for sharing your story! :-)
Lovely. I was there a few YEARS ago. It was diferent than today. It was smaller and free enterance. No ticket but wonderfull again. Good video good story
Thanks so much! Oh wow - it used to be free! I guess they realized they could make some money on it. I don't have a problem with that if it helps to maintain the lovely nature.
Hey Jen, thanks for tons of info about Croatia in your videos, I really love them! Could you please advise a few local Croatian websites to search for apartments to rent? Tnx! Primarily I`m interested in coastline of Pula +50km area, but I can consider any other place of a good value and close to the sea.
Thanks so much for watching - glad you enjoy the videos! I'm not sure exactly which websites would be best to look at. I think there are some facebook groups where people advertise long term rentals. If you're looking for vacation rentals, most people are on Air Bnb or Booking.com.
Beautiful! Looks like you drive on the right side of the road, too, so bonus :-) Interesting that all the signs were in English. Honestly, I'm moving there just for the meat choices LOL Seriously, how difficult is it to travel to Croatia? Any restrictions? Vaccine passport? I noticed no masks!
Croatian food is definitely delicious - the coastal AND inland varieties! The footage for this video is older - it's just taken me awhile to edit it and get it released. I do believe Croatia will be letting in vaccinated tourists later this year!
Wonderful you visited Rastoke. It's kinnda underrated but so beautiful
We really love it!

@@JenTheSingingTraveler thx for reply! The case is the long term rental and airbnb's prices are frightening :(
