Don’t forget to check the vent cap on the top of the axle housing. When I did mine it went poof 💨 when I took it out telling me that the vent wasn’t working. I replaced it with new. And I cleaned the old one so it worked again. But they are cheap enough to just replace them.
Good job 👍 another good idea is to remove the spare tire gives you some extra clearance to work and top it off with the air which I'm sure it's probably low. I top off my spare twice a year.
Was that the first differential service at 170,000 miles? If so, have you ever done the trans, transfer case, front differential? I actually prefer the Amsoil 110 weight. It’s a little thicker.
What’s cheaper, $40 in gear oil, or up to $2000 in a replacement/rebuiid? With regular lube changes ( and conservative use) that rear end will probably last up to 300K plus miles. If you choose to ignore it , the price will be very high.
100% agree, the unknown in my mind is the metal particles that is probably critical to keep things 'together' , which i will loose with new fluid and create more issues@@FIGGY65
@@Elvisnotpresley97late response, but I found my drain plug rounded off. I tried briefly with the 24mm with no luck so picked up a 15/16ths and some bolt extractors to try again when I have a chance to pick up a new drain plug from the dealership. How did you get yours off?
In a cool climate a 07 Tacoma LSD takes 80 SAE gear oil, in a warm to hot it should use SAE 90 gear oil. Anything less than the viscosity and you'll have issues with the diff.
Ok first off, you should ditch the annoying background music. I don’t understand why anyone doing an instructional video needs to have distracting music playing. Second, you should have shown how you place the crush washer with bubble side facing out.
Third, …..if ya don’t know what bubble side up or out means and you need a picture, you shouldn’t be working on your own vehicle ( not to mention criticizing somebody that’s going out of his way to make life easier for all of us !!! ) STFU !
@@johnmellyn2700 lol it really doesn’t matter with crush washers, I’ve never had one not crush them leakes because of orientation. Just use a torqueometer majig to get the proper turnonewtons
bro risking it all wearing that white Columbia jacket lol
😂
Would you do a quick flush with a quarter quart of the new oil to be sure most or all of the old stuff is out?

According to the owner's manual it says 75W-85 is recommended but I see you're using 75W-90. Is there any difference between the two? Thanks.

little tip, you cant really over fill, just wait for that dribble and plug it up. then run for short drive and top off once more.
The oil looks pretty good

Haven’t changed any other fluids besides oil. It’s only 2WD with rear locker so no front diff.
what's your view on changing transmission drain and fill (not flush) at 170k? With no history of it being changed before. Thanks

Don't touch it. It's too late to mess with the trans at that mileage. You could develop slippage or other issues.
“Oh yeah, she’s nasty” 😂
melissablalock all better now !
there's still about half of a quart of fluid inside. Use a fluid extractor to suck it out.
AMSOIL FTW !!
great video. need to do my 2nd gen tacoma. it's at 70k.
Isn’t the 06 a supposed to have an additive?
Amsoil already has the additive in it. You’re good to go. Used it myself without issue.
I stripped the drain plug... Now what?
Damn, got a welder? Did you strip the threads or just the head of the bolt?
A little late, but you can buy an oem drain plug from the dealer I think

@@michaeldyer5548 I didn’t strip mine luckily but i bought a breaker bar, and my neighbor ended up taking it off for me 🤣 I still couldn’t do it
I’d run it for 50 miles and do a second drain and fill.
MotivX Tools 🔥🔥🔥
They are awesome. Getting more sizes soon!
Definitely woulda flushed that diff haha, also it’s hard to overfill a diff, they’re vented after-all
Just did mine at 60k. Was very bad also.

You posted the same comment on the other guys video.👍☘
Also if your ride has a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) make sure the new gear oil has an (LSD) additive.
What if you live where is gets pretty hot and summer and pretty cold in winter? I know the dealer(Cincinnati) uses 80w-90 with an additive.
On the Amsoil website they list which diff fluid to use based on climate
Mine was dirty at 35,000
Great. My 2011 with 176k now needs changed. Time to order some of those easy fill bags! #amsoil
Chris Radalia they made it easy!
How does it now need it. I'm pretty sure you were supposed to change it at 60 or 90k miles.
sadge thats me.... on my second gen. lol thanks for making this video
Put the video speed on 2X to get through twice as fast. He drags it on too slow.
Drive that vehicle up on equal height four blocks and give yourself a bit more room under there.
Don't forget to chock!

The truck needs to run 2-3 thousand miles and then change the oil again.... Also the bolts need to be changed....
