Just did oil changes with Amsoil 75w90 and it comes in bags now making oil changes a breeze. No pump necessary as you can manipulate the sturdy bags to fit. And just squeeze it in there. Very convenient. No I’m not a Amsoil dealer. Just made life easier.
Proper sequence for avoiding the splash. 1. Loosen the fill plug and snug it back up, finger tight. 2. Remove the drain plug--the vacuum will prevent the large outrush of fluid. 3. Remove fill plug once the large outrush of fluid has slowed.
Jus got the front done today. Hardest part if either was loosening the plugs, but the front was definitely a tighter squeeze, especially when pumping. Your videos helped tremendously though. Next up is the transfer case.
A couple pro tips, like you did driving over to your folks place get some heat in the oil flows much easier also crack the fill plug loose but don't take it out all the way that way when you take the drain plug loose the oil drains slowly and you don't run the risk of over shooting your drain pan or making a big mess. Once you got the drain plug out then take the fill out the rest of the way. Good Job and good explanation!
Did mine tonight. I highly suggest that you spray the drain bolt with some PB Blaster before you attempt to remove it. Mine was VERY tough to remove, but finally got it to break loose with the PB Blaster and a breaker bar on the socket.
I sprayed pb blaster on my gen1 drain plug and it didn't help much, even though the plug was removed just a year ago it still made the hugest of pops like I brpke the breaker bar!
I recently changed the front, rear and transfer case fluid using Super Tech 75/90 sold at Walmart for about half the price of Mobile One and both made at same refinery. ***Heads Up***That drain plug on the front diff is a whore, I stripped it out almost completely trying to loosen it. Stop what you are doing and get a new plug. PB blaster twice 2 days before. Its just a crap design with dissimilar metals, and a little 10mm hex key and a huge plug. So if you have a little left to grip the trick is to lightly tap the back of the head of the breaker bar with a very small 6 oz ballpien hammer while slowly gently loosening it. Then after a few minutes it breaks the seal you smash yourknuckles but you did it. It got a little nickel anti seize before being reinstalled and torqued to spec.
The smell on this is awful just like transmission fluid. I got it (5:49) all over my shirt, bras and young daughter. She thought it was funny. Hate doing it on Ford F150 series.
Just think if I did the front and back and transfer case @ $185 A piece. I'll be broke, funny part is that they told me I could Finance it, in my head I was saying aaah no thanks. Lol

When should you change the differential oil?
Recommended every 30k miles.
@@Tacomaholic Thank you for your quick reply. I just got a 2013 Tacoma and your channel has been very helpful. Do you have anything on the A/C. It will start to blow hot air and the light will blink
@@evanrivera8173 Thanks so much for watching and congrats on your purchase! Sounds like your blower motor might be going out but I'm not sure. You can access it right behind the glove box.
No skid plate on your Tacoma?
Removed it for the video.
@@Tacomaholic Right on. I have a 2013 with 300k on it and a 4 runner with 450k. Love them all. I appreciate you making and posting your vids. Very helpful.
how many times do u change the oil a year?
I'm changing my front diff, rear diff, and transfer case oil every 25k miles.
I used your vids to switch front, t-case, rear with Amsoil 75w90 synthetic (very well done btw) My 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport just hit 100,000 km (Little over 62,000 miles) I figured that’s a good milestone to change oils that are due and I’m not sure about. Question is do you think with the syn you can extend oil changes?
If I have gear oil for a limited slip diff can I use it on the front diff and transfer case?
Which specific oil do you have?
@@Tacomaholic Lucas 70w90 gear oil for diff and trans case. Rated for gl5 and lsd
@@ethansmith1865 70 or 75?
@@Tacomaholic 75
@@ethansmith1865 Gotcha, yeah the 75w90 with the LS additive is fine to use in a diff that doesn't require it.
Where’s the link for the gasket set?and what all does the set include?
Hey Jeremiah, first link in the video description: amzn.to/2El4xGH The set includes all of the washers for your front and rear diffs and the transfer case.
What kinda fluid do you put in your power steering pump
Check your Toyota manual for that one. For my 2014 it's automatic transmission fluid DEXTRON II or III.
Have you noticed any change in you truck?
Hey Cory! You mean change from doing this oil change in particular?
Sorry - I'm an idiotic - the gen was right there in the title; thanks for the video.
Lol no problem buddy. Thanks for watching. Do you have a 2nd gen?
@05:55 "that is a lovely smell"----> it's pretty much the most horrible smelling oil
Lol truth!
Ummmmm love your taco. Can't wait for mine!!!!!
Start planning your mods now Gary! 👍
Good job love your videos)
Thanks Ramon!
Money shot! lol
😀
You know its full when it drips from its Whispering Eye...
Lol
That color of the oil tho...... damn
Nasty
thanks buddy.
Thanks for the info!
Sure thing buddy!
I hope you don't mind, I gave you a shot-out in my latest video... This DIY video you made was a big help to me! let me know if you want me to remove that from my video... ua-cam.com/video/H9DuQUuIxXc/v-deo.html
Dude, where do you live? I thought you were in Texas.
I lived in Texas for a long time but in Virginia now. I'll get back to Texas sooner or later.
Virginia Beach here... bro
Awesome, I have a bunch of family there and in Norfolk.
Nicely done.
Thanks Robert!
Just paid $19 for just one quart. Crazy.
Sorry to hear that Trevor. Are you going to replace it with one of the plugs from Trail Toys?
Great video!
Thanks Gary!
THANX
So y'all ever noticed that people install a rear diff breather all the time.... Why do you never see a front diff breather??
They come with a front diff breather from the factory.
@@Tacomaholic well today a became a smarter more well rounded human... Thank you 🙏
The smell on this is awful just like transmission fluid.
I got it (5:49) all over my shirt, bras and young daughter. She thought it was funny.
Hate doing it on Ford F150 series.
Lol yeah not the best smelling fluid
They want almost $185 down where I live at
Ouch! That is beyond ridiculous considering the longest part of this maintenance is letting the oil drain out.
That's insane
Seriously. I understand companies needing to mark things up for labor and overhead ... but $185 for something that cost me $25? Crazy.
Just think if I did the front and back and transfer case @ $185 A piece. I'll be broke, funny part is that they told me I could Finance it, in my head I was saying aaah no thanks. Lol
Wow financing maintenance. Good of them to look out for us.
Nice
complete BS how much they charge for a 20 minute max drain and fill
There's no such thing as a socket wrench... it's called a ratchet.

Do you have to remove the skid plate to access the front diff plugs?
Hey David! It's been awhile since I had the factory skid plate so i can't remember if it goes back far enough to block your access. Good news is that it comes right off with just a few bolts and it's nice to have more your to maneuver, especially when dropping that oil out of the bottom.
@@Tacomaholicperhaps the middle splash plate needs removed? I removed the front plate and couldn't find the plugs
