This model does an excellent job of cleaning clothes. I had this model. I bought it new and gave it to my mother. She needed a new washer desperately. She loved it. I wish that I had a Speed Queen today.
New washers work just as well while using less of everything and some are made in the USA. Now, will a new washer outlast the old? Probably not, but 10 years the new ones last on average is ok.
1995: they will have flying cars in 2020. 2020: me watching about a 1978 US washing machine...and i have never even been to US...oh well... *grabs some snacks *
Those solid-tub Speed Queen washers were the very BEST! We had one of those with a stainless-steel tub (extra-large capacity) & it was built like a tank! Did a great job of cleaning very dirty laundry! Many people in our family had the solid-tub SQ washer. Regrettable that they stopped manufacturing those solid-tub SQ washers! Why did Speed Queen stop making that design of washing-machine... does anyone know?
Yes! When Raytheon bought Speed Queen in 1978 Raytheon had redesigned the washer to meet energy saving standards at the time and and also the new design also better safety standards which has "insta-matic" brakes that stop the washer when the lid is opened during operation and if it is spinning the tub comes to a complete "dead" stop in less than 3 seconds as opposed to a locking lid that at the time did meet 1971 U.L. safety standards, but unless the "safety" system was maintained it was NOT "FOOL-PROFF" and the lawsuits that Speed Queen had gotten due to injury lawsuits cost McGraw-Edison and McGraw-Edison sold Speed Queen and in 1979 the "new" Speed Queen's were Raytheon designed machines. Speed Queen just like any manufacture of a "product" is NOT IMMUNE for potential liability lawsuits. The same that had happened with Westinghouse and Westinghouse sold there appliance business to White Consolidated in 1976. General Motors sold off Frigidaire to WCI in 1978 as well. Also, McGraw-Edison at the time was selling off there business and by 1982 McGraw-Edison was out of business. But look on the "bright" side a 40+ year old Speed Queen washer and dryer you CAN STILL get some replacement parts for these machines today(2021)
I don't think you could have a gigantic capacity solid tub in a washer today without making the dimensions of the washer larger. Today's pathetic pumps in washers couldn't even handle the water thrown from this washer.
WOW that one Tide POD sure did foam up for an HE detergent. That's not good. It does that in my front loader if I do not have enough laundry or something like that. It will suds lock the crap out of it
@Albert Carello I have really hard water. Tide PODs are bad about sudsing up if you dont have enough laundry with them. I just bought a new Speed Queen and if it is a small load in it, it does the same thing. I've switched back to powder Tide and for my roommate Persil Deep Clean intense fresh. Now that Persil is SUPER sudsy
The only thing this beautiful machine has in common with the Speed Queen trash from 2018 is the name. I wonder if they will ever forgive you for telling the truth.
@@Sharkie626 for 2020, Alliance Laundry decided to bring back the 2018 series in the TR7, 5, and 3 series. They make 1 classic model, the TC5, which has the agitation of the 2017 series. I only found out about the crappy series being brought back, because Kirk Rivas tested a TR5 series. So Speed Queen didn't learn their lesson, and trying to otherwise force the TR series on customers by limiting choice on theTC series. For front loaders, they make one model now
Whirlpool was the first all the way back to the late 1940s with perf tub top load washers. Their first automatic was released in 1947 through Sears Kenmore. Much better at grit and sand and debris removal. Also the neutral drain kept clothes in the tub and didn't redeposit lint on the load like a spin drain could when it throws the water back onto the clothes while spinning. GE and Maytag did that to some degree.

Bleach???? .....are you insane? .....who uses bleach on clothes in the washing machine. Haven't you heard of 'Vanish' - it's a clothes specific stain remover that comes in liquid, gel or dry stick format (similar to a dry stick deodorant). Everyone uses this in the UK to get tough stains out of their clothes before washing them. You can get a type for wine, another type for grease from bike chains, one for ketchup etc. You don't need to wet the clothes first either, as they can be put on dry clothes, and then popped in the machine. Do they not have Vanish in the US?
@@robtyman4281 every heavy duty detergent contains bleach in Germany, this is completely normal! if you want one without bleach, just buy color detergent, this does not contain bleach! We also have vanish oxi or prewash spray in Germany but you don't need that because of our detergent It contains bleach, There are also oxygen-based ones, we have many.
The rollover on that machine is INSANE!

I’m showing my age because I love the machine. Nothing complicated just ordinary❤️👍😊
Just goes to show that vintage washers do a better job at removing dirt than most modern washers do period!
that's why almost everything now. When things were made in america.

@@khalilt6508 that one was a real dud. My guess is that not everything old was well made either. We just see the survivors.
A trick : watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies these days.
I love Speed Queen's solid tubs, and their agitator design has the right amount of roll over to rubbing action.
What a great washing action! What we all want now, in a washer!
The spin cycle is really amazing too. They named it right. It's not called a Speed Queen for nothing.
Good start to the new year with a #LORAINFURNTURE&Appliance video
Can’t wait for new vintage Tide ketchup stain wash!

Great vigorous cleaning action. Todays crap washers don’t clean nearly as well.
Now that is the real washing machine knowing what it's doing, clean, clean clean. :D
I have been waiting for the vintage Tide ketchup test, so THANK YOU
love those machine used to have one wish have my bussiness to redo back time
If I didn't get a Maytag washer/dryer set I would have went with the Speed Queen TC5000 series.

During the spin cycle, how does the water get out of a solid tub?
The water comes to the top and gets out of the tub because of the centrifugal force
@@denizkosar8234 just like the old fashioned fabric softener dispensers.

Looks like the 2017 machine did maybe just a tad better? But this one still outperformed the 2018 machine.
it's strange. It seems like the tc5 does better when it's overloaded compared to this one overloaded.

add enough water to an HE detergent and it will still foam. Tide for some reason gets very foamy.

Mine too but it’s a whirlpool from loader and it automatically takes care of the suds lock.

WOWWEE washer sure fills up fast
it's sped up! took me 5 videos to realize lol

Better than the unimatic

Should have bought a good washer in the 70s, kept in the box to use these days when they sell crap.
It's the powder and its chemical formula, not the washing machine, that does the washing.
Aren't they all complimentary? Neither is as effective without the other. Also, today’s progressive consumers demand less “toxic” detergents🙄.
Why don't you label this as ASMR content too? It will get lots of new hits
