The easiest, quickest plant hanger using a mason jar and rope in two styles - with and without beads using a single string of rope. This is a great way to upcycle / reuse plastic and glass mason jars to convert them to a mini plant hanger.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for including an estimation of how long the cord should be. My containers are much larger and wider and I prefer my hangers a lot longer (since I have them hanging from the ceiling) so after a couple of trial runs, I've increased my length to "25 times the height of one side" and that works best for my space. I appreciate your clear instructions. I am such a happy plant parent now that I've made many of these slings to display my plants in!

this isn't working for me, whenever i pull all the strings (one of the last steps) it just goes into a knot and falls apart :(
What jar are you using? This works best for a mason jar with a flat base like shown in the video.
If there is some weight (water) in jar, and rope is soft, result is more correct. Some practice also needed. Few times after strings come more balanced and equal.

I think two tries is enough before giving up. all my strings just end up migrating to one side and the jar slips out - not stable at all

I never thought that a bottle could be hung in such a simple way..I am new in this field so can you please tell the type of rope I should buy and its thickness.I would be very thankful if you give a reply soon..
@LathaPadmadas sorry for the late reply! I used 3 mm cotton rope, you can also use jute rope. Hope that helps.

Dollar tree has clothes hanging rope like to hang your clothes it's the cheapest and works great 👍
im not gonna use this for plants. but i have itty bitty potion bottles. ill tie with embroidery string and make tiny hanging hanging bottles :D

Hi, with a glass jar I wouldn't take a chance hanging outdoors when it's very windy.

Hi Susmita, it is cotton rope. You can use a 4mm or 5 mm cotton rope for a small mason jar.

Gregory this tutorial needs a flat bottomed jam jar, this technique wont work on a sphere.

Does this hold things like plastic pots? Or does it have to be the same kind of shape as the jar?
Cos the jar has that rim on top so it fits perfect but I don’t want to hang plants in jars cos they have no drainage that’s why. I will have to find some plant containers that I can do this with. Cheers
Yes it has the rim on top which holds it well. You can use it best for water based plants where drainage isn't required.I

Made a number of unsuccessful attempts without hot gluing the bottom. Ties come undone at the last step; is it the jar shape?
Aloha Mom the base has to be flat, mason jar works normally but what shape is your jar?
Aloha Mom don’t leave too much gap between the knots, if you watch the video step by step and pause, making sure you’ve not left too much of a gap and it should work. It took me quite a few attempts in the beginning but was a great feeling once I got it!

Final length would vary depending on the height of the jar that determines the length of the rope

I'm afraid not, the measurements I've shown here are suitable only for the kind of mason jar in the video.
