Clough and Taylor. What a duo. Clough’s exceptional man management and Taylor’s genius ability to spot hidden talent. Two men made for each other who just happened to grow up in Middlesbrough at the same time. What a story.
One of the best managers of all time period. Everyone was lauding real Madrid when the retained the champions league trophy, to do that with a small team is literally unbelievable
Forest winning the European Cup once is nuts, but TWICE!?!?!? I almost had a brain aneurism when I found that out as a kid. Clough and Taylor were about as good as you could get.
Isn't it mental that the FA never hired Clough even though he expressly admitted he wanted to job? The reason? Because they were afraid he would be too much of a loud mouthed...shows you what kind of people those fucktards were/are
Privileged and lucky to have watched a Cloughie interview as a 6 year old in 1977 and picked Forest as my team right then. The great times that followed under Clough and Taylor were incredible
@@SteveInskip I see where you are coming from but strangely, this is not true. He was never offered the chance until he was a Forest manager. There was then that really scary few days in 1977 where he had interviews and it looked like Forest would lose him and in the end the old boys at England chose Ron Greenwood, much to Forest fans utter delight and the nation's disbelief. About two weeks later I was with a few thousand other Forest fans standing in the Scoreboard End at Old Trafford watching Forest beat Man Utd 4-0. Within 18 months Clough's team had won a League Cup, a Championship and a first European Cup when he could have been laying the foundation for a World Cup win.
Jamie Colville i always though that was a stitch-up just to appease the England fans to be honest. Ron Greenwood was an FA insider and always favourite . He should have got it when Don Revie was chosen for me. Anyway, whatever, it was a good thing for Forest.....not so much me as I’m from 15 miles West of Nottingham 😂😂😂. Have a good one & see you next season! 👍
Dirty Don should be the title of the movie of his life. Google the Emily Hughes' interview about Dirty Don's first training session as England manager ! Sums the money grabber up!
Like feck he was. Believe what you like and worship him if you will. Leeds nearly won the European Cup thst yea and but for a dodgy ref and some questionable decisions we would have. He was egotistical and he alienated the team. His legacy was he put ego before the team which was always his way. So I give him plaudits for Nottingham Forest but he failed at Leeds because of one thing : Brian Clough and nothing more than that.
@EleanorMaudling not from Leeds then? Say that outside Elland Road we see it differently and I won't get into a slanging match here woyh you. Personally couldn't care less what yout hink of us and him. He's a legend here and we don't really care so crack on with it. MOT.
People keep saying he's the best manager England never had, which may well be factually true but he just wasn't suited to the England set up any more than he was suited to manage Leeds. But his and Peter Taylor's achievement at Nottingham Forest with winning the European Cup twice with the resources they had must make them the best manager partnership there has ever been.
I mean, true, but Brian usually built his teams to his style, and back then the foreign players were so few in England. So he could have called the players he wanted (hell, even his own players) to the national team.
Only reason the Leeds players could not take to him was because he wanted to play proper football (that he had got Derby to play and win the League) - doesn't mean he was not suited to manage Leeds - in reality, to anyone with a brain cell, it simply means that the Leeds players did not want to play proper football as all they knew was dirty football that Revie had taught them!
1990 unfortunately it would never have happened. You have to be a certain type of manager to manager England and clough, as good as he was, was too outspoken. Never towed the party line
Clough fell out big time with the FA in the early 70’s when he refused to release Colin Todd for England U21 duty so it was never going to happen. But, if it had, I’d have thought much the same as when Terry Venables was in the job, good football, some success but too soon a fall out over something or other. The press would have done a hatchet job anyway like they did at Leeds. He had a better career without England. Also, the FA (stands for what they’ve won at senior level in the last 50 years), would have never employed both Clough and Taylor, and they were only brilliant when together.
I agree , we ll never know but the old fogies at the FA hierarchy saw to that ! Brian didn't fit the old boys , yes men, club , arse licking club.Brian said it as it was n the FA dint like that , so we've got the FA to thank, for ENGLAND not winning a trophy for 60 odd yrs now and counting 🙄🤨6⚽️+
I think I'm right in that nobody has yet eclipsed the key achievements of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor. I remember Forrest well (a but young to remember Derby Co in their heyday), and I remember watching the '79 and '80 Euro finals. I think it was 79 when he stuck Francis up there on his own - completely isolated .... what is he doing ????? what is he doing? what do I know, what do I know.

The 1982 World Cup might have been very different for England had Mr Clough been in charge. He would have chosen players like Hoddle, Regis and Clemence, and you know, England might have just go on to win that
Shame he never became England manager. Maybe it would of led to a better game throughout the world. Where money wasn’t king and there was no corruption in the draws or World Cup bidding. Also England might of done better in a few World Cup campaigns.
Pebb86 money would have always been king in every industry that grows to the size football has become, the more money the clubs make, the more money footballers will demand
I disagree. Bob Paisley IS the greatest English manager that England never had. Clough's record is very good. Paisley' s record is absolutely brilliant. Do your research
Paisely just did it with one club. Clough did it over two clubs with vastly different budgets to Liverpool. That shows adaptability and that's probably with the hair gets split. Also their records are quite similar when you add his Derby + Nottingham Forest achievements together. I would say Clough only found success with Taylor though so that could be one argument the other way for Paisely. We'll never know.
Not downplaying clough's achievement because he is one of the best to do it but he did break alot of transfer records so spent a bit of money along the way. Still he is the best manager England have ever had imo

I am actually a Greek fan and recognize the history of both clubs. Nottingham and Derby. But to all the Derby fans of the time...I want to ask.Why the fuck did you not STOP this. You would be European champions by now.
Bob Paisley won it consecutively in 1977 and 1978, Brian Clough in 1979 and 1980. Commentary says no British manager has won it consecutively since then, which is a fact. 1977 was Liverpool's first European Cup and a huge achievement but nothing compared to Clough and Nottingham Forest winning in 1979 and 1980 - just incredible. They knocked Liverpool out in 1978/79 season - and this was the great side including Daglish, Souness and Hansen. I remember, I was at Anfield supporting Liverpool!
Consecutively, randomly.... Whatever my dear friends. I just wanted to glorify paisley. Because I love Liverpool football club. Clough is wonderful. Paisley is great.
In the context of their entire careers “in public yes” is probably the funniest thing said out of both Clough and Taylor
