I remember being in the video store around 86 or 87. I picked the video out even though i was under 13. My mother walked up to the clerk and asked if there is any nudity in it? The clerk look at me and said said, no, but alot of killing. She said, ok, thats fine.

If you didn't already know, this was the first ever movie to be given a PG-13 rating. All because of Spielberg's crazy mind that gave us the PG rated Gremlins and Indiana Jones

@@dallionaire8947 Temple of Doom was the reason the PG-13 rating was created. Basically, Spielberg used his clout to get the rating made since it didn't qualify for the PG rating but still wasn't as serious as an "R" rating. Meanwhile, Red Dawn was the first movie to "don" the new PG-13 rating.

Interestingly, "Wolverine" was actually a real concept. It was called "Werwolf" by Germans. Near the end of WWII, it was developed by german high staff. They buried ammo and weapons in Germany at different places. The plan was to activate an underground resistance after the russian invasion.

But Afghanistan shared a direct border with the USSR, and had no real ATC in 1980 that was functioning.
Watched it for like the 2nd time ever with my mom tonight as a teen when this came out we were both suprised she hadn't seen it. Enjoyed seeing the whole cast so early in there respective careers sheen swayze howell grey and thompson. Darren dalton was one of so many actors we wonder why they never became bigger he's great here and in the outsiders. Also familiar faces like ben johnson william smith and dean stanton pop up. John milius directed this i have watched many interviews with him very interesting guu who I'm a fan of. I remembered it being pretty gritty, but i forgot how many of them didn't survive at the end. i know this is a love it or hate it film i personally love it.

I can't believe they made a live action remake in Ukraine. I can't wait for the sequel in Taiwan...

This is by far much better than the remake. The remake failed to at lease give out any context.

The remake failed because they had to change the invaders to "North Korea", instead of the original China, which made the story totally unbelievable.
Watching the news brought this movie back to mind about to watch it with the family.

I remember the first time I watched this movie. It was Christmas day. I got it on DVD as a present. I was sitting on the end of my bed in my room, wearing a German army coat I'd also gotten that morning. One of my best memories.

How about this for an idea? A re release in theaters. It would be a way easy sell-already made an paid for-only cost is the digital distribution (and residuals for any actors who negotiated as such.) It would be hugely popular-except, of course, in Russia. ;)

It is literally logistically IMPOSSIBLE for any nation, (or group of nations), to mount and sustain a land invasion of the United States. The supply lines needed would stretch tens of thousands of miles, back to wherever, and would be constantly under attack by US/Canadian forces.
Then there are the nukes.
The idea that the US wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice a city or two to wipe an invading army off the face of the Earth is a dream. We would turn the invaders to atoms the instant they tried to concentrate into a coherent fighting force. And meanwhile, the "home" country of the invaders would be one giant radioactive dust cloud.
I watched this filmed as a seventh grader in lil old tiny Las Vegas New Mexico. ( yes you read It right, The original Las Vegas😁👍🇺🇸)

As a history nut, this film hits home more now than when it came out. If this were to happen now, what percentage of people would not put up any fight and aid the invaders. This might be the only way to unite our country.

It says “in our lifetime”. Also, the Aleutian Islands were just a territory, as both Alaska and Hawaii did not gain statehood until AFTER WWII

Actually, the movie is very unrealistic. No country will dare to invade USA! Honestly, I enjoyed watching this movie when I was a teen. I felt angry and frustrated that USA was invaded although I'm from Asia.

The Soviets DID do stuff like this under the Great Purge and in retalliation during WWII, but in the 70s/80s, they were more akin to the U.S., where horrible things happened in secret, like with the CIA or KGB. They were not brutal mass murderers at this time, but were practicing more covert "black ops" kinds of evil, like their NATO counterparts.

Просто этот фильм потерял проверку времени из-за того что СССР распался в 1991 году, но из-за ситуации в мире с 2022 года фильм снова приобрёл популярность и обсуждение
