Man 1: This is an overview of the Log Drum or sometimes called the Krin. This instrument is played with three people, each person has their own. And this comes from the forest region of Guinea West Africa where Bamba's from.
Bemba: Yeah man.
Man 1: It's made out of white wood that's called the Malina wood. And they're hollowed out by hand and each slat is tuned to a different note. So mines sounds different than Bemba's, sounds different than Hasan's. See this one?
Hey. I'll get it. I'll keep practicing. And each one has a different tone and they fit together to make the melody, just like any drums. Congas or Djembes or Dununs there's a set of three and the music is made like that usually they have one soloist which is obviously is Bemba. You can hear these were made to played outside, as they carry a far, far distance.
And this is the overview of the Log drum. - Навчання та стиль
I love how the guy with the high note log does a few taps to demonstrate, then his bro with the middle log just goes into a full on emmy award winning solo.
yeah bit obnoxious
This is the only Howcast video that doesn't feel like a complete waste of time.
Well, not the only..
I'm here because I decided to try to find recordings of every musical instrument known to humanity.
Same here lol except it is impossible to collect them all considering many of them weren't able to be recorded! I've learned a whole lot about instruments in the process.
I recorded on one tonight. Or two I guess. My friend who does a lot of score work just got one, and I brought mine over to record with bunch of other wood and metal. The tones of the log drums/slit gongs work together, but I didn't realize how the bed should work. Never seen/heard it played proper in an ensemble until this clip .
also, if you can find a set of authentic boobams, let me know! You can make your own tube drums, but there's like one or two sets of giant bamboo marimbas out there. I think they're both buried in LA studio drum rooms, but it sure would be nice to have one!
Check out ancient Aztec instruments. The whistles and drums are blowing my mind today
Haha nice!
The combined rhythm really gets you going. Also, Bemba's smile is infectious!
Bemba's smile makes me smile 🙂
Heard this sound in so many movies and games and always wondered how. This is beautiful!
I always wondered about the log drums presets in keyboards and synthesisers, now i finally got to see what it is, thanks :)
Awesome music guys. Love the Krin!
Awesome. So great to see/hear Michael and Bemba again
I'm so impressed that i couldn't even stop smiling, and just by looking at their faces, i can truly say that they're enjoying it so much...❤️
Absolutely brilliant..i have to say the inventors of this instrument in Africa are nothing but genius..its simple yet amazing..!!
Kedar Kulkarni THATS BECAUSE WE BLACK PEOPLE ARE THE ORIGINAL MAN!!
Those things sound so cool!
I’m here cause I heard this is where the infamous South African genre Amapiano gathers its inspiration from.
I just listened to amapiano and o never realized I've been listening to it almost my whole life 😂 I just never new what it was called
Me too
Mbemba what a happy man, god bless. Enjoyed the long drums. Thanks.
Well done. I especially like the positive energy in this video.

Love it. Learned something new today. Sounds great. Inspired!
We have a similar instrument like this in Indonesia, especially in Jember Region. It called patrol music. It played in a larger ansamble than this.
reminds me of rain on a metal roof, just sweet & relaxing & happy
I love all howcast videos❤
wow together they harmonize so well
I love that sound.... beautiful 👍
i am bloody amazed!!!
Did not originate from Guinea solely. We share a common ancestry and in Nigeria here (Igbo land), we have used this for many generations. We carve it out from a tree called "IROKO" and using the "Iroko" tree as the source wood gives it the resonance you hear and the differentiating pitches also come from using different parts of the wood, the way it's cut, and how it's dried and the finishing too. We use this in traditional rituals and dance festivals like "Nmanwu", "Ekpe", "Okonko", and many other Igbo traditional rites.
That guy in the middle is me 😂
You look like a girl that was in my English class named Murillo
No! That"s Joe Roxas.
Megan Morillo No that’s Mbmemba
Africa my continent, my refuge, my home,my own.Africa THE RISING SUN,the land where hills and valleys rejuvenate the memories of old.Africa here I come
Very very nice music god bless you
Love it! And then I have a question, what tools do you use to hollow out the log, and how do you prepare the raw wood when done? Finish with oil, wax or soething else? Thank you!
Asyik musik seni tradisionalnya perpaduan yg sangat akur bang 👍👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻
This instrument is found in several West African Countries, including Liberia, where it's called the slique drum.
Most instruments found in one African country may be common in several others. I've played on this instrument
and more. We must remember, custom and tradition is not mostly restricted in Africa.
Great groove.
This just makes me so happy.
If i don't have a log drum, or the money to buy one, what can i use to make the same sound?
I'm here because I got to play this today and it was so beautiful
Too cool thank you !
Wonderful
where do I get one of these specific log drums?

In Mexico we have a musical instrument like that. Its name teponaztle or teponaztli.
Is it Aztec? The name sounds like it.
@@treygreen5015 yes is Aztec
nice sound guys : )
This reminds me of the Aztec teponaztli, a type of log drum.
We Pacific Islanders also use log drums, but ours are longer and only have one hole
Yeah! Fijians call it Lali, We Samoans call it Pate.
In Liberia, West Africa, it called the Slique Drum
Teponaztli vs. African log drum... which is better?
