I'd never heard of you before, but your showing up in my suggestions couldn't have been more timely. I have never made a comic before, but have an idea that I want to make tangible, and watching you push yourself to finish a project that you initially intended to abandon is really inspiring me. And yet, funnily enough, it was your prominent use of one of my favorite songs from Hotel Dusk that pushed me to subscribe to you.
HOTEL DUSK SHALL FOREVER BIND US. Thank you for watching, and thank you for taking the time to comment. Please go make your comic, even if it doesn't work out. At least give it a shot. Again, Hotel Dusk is good.
Oefff, This is so relatable, Got a drawer full of game and asset sketches, ideas and doodles. I've got the rule now that I need to finish my current project before starting a new one. Although the rule works it's still a matter of showing up every week to work on it after work. Making a mobile game is just so much work. Keep up the good stuff Kurt, And thanks for reacting to your comments. You have a nice community here :)
Everyone says they have the best community, but I believe in my heart, that we truly have the best, most wholesome community. And it's thanks to cool cats like you who show up here and share your time with me. In terms of finishing projects, YES -- you're right. Finishing one project at a time has only so much weight as long as you SHOW UP. And that's the key.
‘Give yourself permission to mess up’ was honestly so inspiring. Sometimes artists get so stuck in the mentality that every piece must be a masterpiece, but really you have to make a lot of not-great art to get there. And even when you do it will almost NEVER turn out exactly like you pictured. The great part is that no one can see the image in your head, so they can’t see where it doesn’t line up like you can. I overall love this challenge that you’ve set for yourself and I feel like it would help the mentality I need to remind myself of and so repeat like a mantra- ‘done is better than perfect.’ Building not just confidence but trust in yourself is so important to me. Thanks for the video!
Very inspiring and motivational. That's the right mindset to be in for any project. Just finish it. Perfectionism ruins progress. I love that you said "I'm allowing myself to fuck up". More progress is made when we fuck up. More shit gets done. Thank you Kurt for constantly inspiring me with your videos. Can't wait to see your comic! It's looking real good!
Saying I inspire YOU is one of the most motivational things you could have said to me, because your work and drive is equally as inspiring to me! You're great, Samer.
Kurt Indovina Love you man. Honestly, your channel, videos, you have all been super inspiring to me, especially your more recent ones. So, thank you. Let's keep inspiring each other, achieve our goals/dreams and most importantly, finish it.
hello Kurt! I found this video of yours while cramming on a comic project I’m hoping to finish for this week and your words and commitment to doing the work is so inspiring, thank you for this!
What you said at the end with quantity leading to quality is so true, and you said it so well! I watch so much on UA-cam, but you are the only youtuber I've ever found that I actually find worth listening to. It's so refreshing to have creators like you who make content worth watching, and not just the mindless click bait that a lot of youtubers are creating(Not saying that there's not others creating good content, but youtube seems to favor pointless videos). I don't know if what I just said makes any sense, but basically when ever I watch your videos, I feel like I'm not outright wasting my time. Your videos are always so well thought out, and you have so much to say. Every time I watch one of your videos, I am amazed at just how simple yet incredible your videos are. I can't wait to read your comic, and your next part for this video!
Bridget, I TOTALLY get what you're saying. It does make sense, and I happen to agree with you. So hearing you say and think that, is deeply motivating to me, and validates why I do everything I do. I believe I've said this to you already, but I'll say it again: thank you for watching my videos, and thank you for your continuous support. I hope your game development is going well, by the way!
I'd never be able to do this with the type of life I have now. People are always interrupting any form of Me-time I have at my house. This could only be accomplished if you live alone or if you live with someone who knows how to give you your space.
It’s definitely VERY hard. I currently live in a small studio apartment with my girlfriend (who is also working from home at the moment) with our two cats, and the pandemic has made it increasingly difficult to work “alone”. So I completely get it. For me, and I know this isn’t easy for everyone, I started getting up at 4:30am, and basically write and draw until my girlfriend wakes up at 7, and that has created a really solid routine for me to be completely alone in the morning while I work on my comic, and then transition into my “day job” work after she wakes up. It’s work been helping.
@@KurtIndovina That sounds like a good idea. I sometimes wake up early to start my morning routine before class. So, I will try doing this on days when I'm free so I could be able to make time for my comic, too. Thanks :-)
Comics is a hard career, but I think it's something you could get into given all the stuff your into, plus you are in a comics mecca. Got sucked into work and computer issues, but this has helped get me motivated after a bummer week. Thank you.
You've got this! If you need to join a community of comics creators, ua-cam.com/users/drawandtalk has weekly comic creator hangouts where we motivate each other and make comics!
That seems to be a norm for a lot of us. It's something I've been through all of my creative life... BUT NO MORE. Thank you so SO much, Battle Buddies.
Hey man, I know this video is over a year old, but I just stumbled across your channel. Really enjoyed watching you work on this comic and your creative process in general. Great job!
haHAAA!!! Hooray! To be honest, I had a feeling this might happen, and good for you sir! Personally, if you don't finish by Friday? Keep going and post it when you're done, don't chop it up if you didn't think of it chopped up, just for the sake of meeting a deadline. I'm pretty sure we'll all be here when you're done with it :) Cheers, and good luck!
Thank you, Saurinja! Regardless if I manage to finish it this week or not, there's a finish line that I know I'll be crossing. I have to finish this comic. And I'm making sure I'm held accountable by this community.
It's interesting you mention releasing it in pieces because I plan on releasing something on 4/28 online for free and decided to release just 7 pages, which has 25 panels. Then every 7 days after, releasing another 7 pages and another until I have released the full 28 pages, 28 days later. It is rough though as I am doing it all on My own, can get easily distracted, am not the best artist, and the artist that was originally going to do it kinda faded out of existence but I want to stick to this deadline and get it done before My birthday in May.
Hi man I thought you were video was very helpful and I love reading comics and I draw a lot and if it's ok by you could you give me some more tips about making a comic book because it's going to be my first comic book and I just need some help if you got the time thank you love u videos
Qazi! Why do we do this to ourselves!? Thankfully, you've demonstrated your ability to make something, and put it out into the world, and be accountable for it. I don't think it's entirely necessary to finish EVERYTHING we start. But, after actually showing this comic, it compelled me to finish it. STILL, I'm very curious to what your comic was...
My biggest problem about my drawings are finishing them. I get so caught up in the details and making sure everything "makes sense" proportion wise and what have you.
I think all creatives have to deal with this, and face that "it has to be THIS way" mentality, and that shit is crippling to our art, and to getting stuff done.
@@KurtIndovina Yes! It was heart melting to see your work finally done and finally being sold. But after that, I got stuck in a year. Didn't continue my comics. I think I was super drained :( but hopefully I get to finish everything this year :)

Keep more coming and your quote regarding quality and quantity will really affect some decisions I make this week/month (cuz I can't wake up at 4!!!)
Of course! No matter what, it's going to be online Friday in some capacity, even if it's not finished. Even if that means sharing it in chapters -- really not sure yet. But I'll also figure out a way to make is easily distributed as a PDF. If not this Friday, then by the end of the year.
