You should reconsider your mounting of the rock sliders. You're bolting to an aluminum battery pack and body shell, use EVERY bolt hole you can to spread impact forces as much as possible. As you were saying "Plenty sturdy" as you bounced on it with your light body, it was visibly flexing.
Not worried about it. A little flex is not necessarily a bad thing. All the force that matters will be up or in, not down. And they are much stronger in those directions.
I work at a used car dealership. Today I was test driving our model 3 in the lot and thought, "A tesla would be an excellent off-road vehicle! I'm going to build one, and I'll be the only one in idaho with one"... hahaha. Your videos are an inspiration. Keep going!
I want to see the Barbie Camper get finished. To many Tesla videos on UA-cam, lol. Trust me I love this too, but I'm addicted to the Powerwheels builds.
Very impressed how it just slid over that pile of snow. That would normally probably write off a car in an accident, byt with the ground clearance/approach angle = smashed up and over it. When you have to work to get something stuck: it's clearly a beast.
@ Greg cich I thought all the Teslas came with skid plates/shields to protect the batteries. Tesla fitted a titanium shield to the Model S after some fires were caused by road hazards.
For easily under $100 you could help on the heat loss. A Vinyl Strip Door Curtain Kit is what you want, use that text to see images. These are used in most industry, receiving areas for most nonpublic entrances. Helps keep the hot side hot and the cold side cold.
Maybe someone has already mentioned this, but the pipe bender is mounted on a table 3' high. If he needs more height to bend the pipes, all he has to do is mount the pipe bender lower to the ground, if not on the ground, or even on its side. However, I think his point was that he had just enough vertical height to complete the bend w/o having to make any changes.
You guys should try to find something called a magic heat for your wood stove it goes in line with the chimney they're a game changer for getting back that lost chimney heat
Man I wish we could get cheap wrecked Tesla's here in Aus... Il just have to pretend my Prius is one instead, been planning rock sliders for ages but this is the best way I've seen yet to make it happen!
I know this is off topic but I feel the barbie mustang needs a revive it's the build that helped the channel grow into what it is. V2 Barbie mustang for the spring season maybe? 🤔
More Tesla Tank content! Want to know just how well this thing will go through the deep stuff, and what its limitations really are in the snow! I assume ground clearance will be its biggest foe? What would it be able to do with the extra clearance on Big snow tires, and even chains, nigh unstoppable with the right set of hands.

With the harsh winnter weather and byilding your new shop, have you considered useing floor heat....and heat it with a water stove.? Floor heat, especially through a concrete floor, is the best heat you can get, it also makes working on those cold concrete floors a thing of the past! Plus you have an abundance of wood to feed the water stove! We heat a 5000 sf house with a 12oo gal water stove. I did not, however, get my own garage floor when we built it back in 2009...and every time I -drop down on that North Carolina cold concrete floor, I about cuss myself out!
Since you're adding more weight, you should consider adding supplemental batteries for extended range. Maybe a solar panel with a converter to charge both batteries during daily activities.
Just an FYI It may work better to take the tracks off of the skid steer and put chains on the tires in the winter. My Dad used to run his this way, up in Norther Minnesota.
You guys need to do a colab with Simone Giertz and her Truckla. These two modded Teslas need to be seen together, and you need to go cruising and annoy the purists. 🤣
Wait a minute. The car wouldn't let you out with the wheel turning? The meat bag should determine when it is time to exit the vehicle, not a computer. Snow tires plus AWD and a little lift makes this thing great in the snow. Looks like there is some flex in the mounting when you were bouncing on it outside. I wonder if you can extend the mount more towards the center of the car in a couple locations to gain more leverage to counter that twist.
Haha! Yeah, it won’t unlock the doors while the wheel is spinning. 🤣 Agreed! It’s a very capable car in the snow! And I’m not too worried about the flex. A little bit of flex isn’t a bad thing.
I think everybody agrees… Roll cage next? eBay motors the best sponsor ever?
A roll cage would be awesome!
Yes !
Possible you would do a cage in SS? That might be really interesting given the look
Gotta have that cage, to go fast on the rough stuff!!! 😁
Does the car have a hydro handbrake? If not you should put one in it
Yes, roll cage. Also a skid plate to protect the cooling line at the front of the battery.
Yes! We definitely need that!
The Tesla is probably one of my favorite builds you guys have done so far. Can't wait to see more of it!
So happy to hear it

If it breaks, it will give them something else to work on lol
It amazes me how well that Tesla goes in the snow.

@@GrindHardPlumbingCo do you have to use that "slip mode" that the model 3 has much? Wondering if it makes much of a difference to getting unstuck..?

we're working on it! we'll bring back the Power Wheels tank soon

i have to admit, the TEsla off road machine is the scariest thing to see ripping through the snow and being so silent. its like a ghost
So true
Would be cool if you guys put on some paintwork on all new mounted parts, I think it eould give the car a way cleaner look. Great vid!
We kind of like the rusty look.

You’re right, we do need to do that.

The lack of pumpkins and the nice smooth sled of a bottom surely helps that car go so well in the snow.
For sure! That makes a huge difference!
