The word "Hawaiian" does not refer to the people of Hawai'i, but to the actual race of Hawaiian ancestry. Just a little FYI, but so glad to see you guys try some of Hawaii's local kine grindz!
Being a person who was brought up and still living on Hawaii, I cringed the whole entire time. The pidgin was forced but the video was great! The musubi was weird though, we make the spam flat not round lol
I'm glad you got to try some local Hawaiian cuisine. I've always wanted you guys to do a bit about the difference between "Hawaiian Asians" VS "Mainland Asians" I dont think people on the mainland realize there is a difference, however everyone from Hawaii KNOWS the differences. Just throwin it out there. Mahalo
Dear Fung Bros, These peeps don't even sound like a real local. You gotta go to Hawaii to experience real Hawaiian food & real local peeps. Give me a shout if you want the real Hawaii experience, I still have family in Hawaii. Or give Ryan Higa a call, I am sure he can hook you up.
hell yeah, spam musubi! i grew up taking that to school on every field trip and now I get to make it for my kids, when they go. Everybody get confused because like, "what those black kids eating?" LOL. Spam is life!. Love poke, neva have poke nachoes tho, i think "runs", but maybe I try it one time. Alot of island food comes from all the different people coming to the island during the early years, like Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and Filipino. Thats why the food so ono.
folks r not called Hawaiian if you are from Hawaii. You would be called a local from Hawaii. But not Hawaiian unless you are kanaka Da pidgin does sound a little rusty my braddah but no worries just get back to the islands more and hit us up, we fix you up.! 🙌🏻🙏🌴
Mahalo for posting this clip! I thought you guys featured Hawaiian cuisine really well... even showed Kalua pork and lau lau! And poke :) Missed the manapua and poi though! Lol
In all honesty being from Hawaii I cringed a lot. That guy from the Big Island sounded like he had to force out his Pidgin. Also I'm sure you already know, but almost guaranteed they aren't Hawaiian. Hawaiian is a race of people from Hawaii not a term to call people from Hawaii like a Californian. Notice they never called themselves Hawaiian. Most people who live in Hawaii that aren't Hawaiian call themselves local. Hana in Japanese means noes so it's hanabuttah (noes butter). Anyway enough of a rant from me.
They tried, though, so points for that. And they corrected poke, at least, which is great. And they probably had to dumb it down for the mainland people cause throwing all that would probably confuse the hell out of em. I totally agree though.
That's true. People from Hawaii don't call themself Hawaiian, like people from Cali would call themselves Californian. If your from Hawaii, your nationality would still be American. Tim should have just said he's from Hawaii, or local/kama'aina.
hi Fung brothers. I am from Bangladesh, a south asian country right between India and Myanmar. My friends and i love your food adventures. We would like you to try our cusine, that is Bangladeshi cusine. I believe you would like it very much. Here are some of the foods you guys should try : 1) snaks & starters : chotpoti, fuska, singara, jhalmuri, chanachur, dal puri, aloo puri, all kinds of pithas (vapa, patisapta, chitoi & etc, muglai parathas. 2) mains : kacchi biriyani, delka kichuri with beef bhuna, chicken biriyani, all kinds of vortas with plain rice, hilsha fish, chicken jhal fri with naan, beef brain jhal fri with naan, beef kolija bhuna with naan, chapp kabab (beef/chicken) with naan. 3) deserts :faluda, finni, milk semai, bogurar doi, commillar rasomalai, tangailer chom chom, jorda. 4)drinks : borhani(spicy goes with biriyani),laban, mata, lassi, rong tea, milk tea. Hope you would like our cusine. Keep your food adventures going.
yo this guy ain't hawaiian, in hawaii we call hawaiians people of hawaiian ancestry. He's a local japanese guy. We call people from hawaii local. still cool video, reppin hawaii. :D
The forgot the fish and poi, I'm a big boy chicken luau, pipikaula, extra large lilikoi, squid and chicken luau, don't forget the laulau, beef and tripe stew just to name a few, ohhhh yeah.... And btw Haupia is missing too.
+Neverthebest1994 OMG why did my nephew in-law ask me the same freakin thing. "How is the drive from here (California) to Hawaii?" If you don't sit your ignorant ass down somewhere.
I love L&L Hawaiian barbecue. We have one here in Lakewood, WA. But there are all over Oahu. They give you what is called a plate lunch. Two scoops of rice. Whatever meat, like teriyaki beef, chicken, or short ribs and macaroni salad. Some of the Korean restaurants have adopted the Hawaiian style plate lunch. I know a chain call Yummy's Korean bbq, which I ate either at Pearlridge Mall or Ala Moana shopping center. They give you two scoops of rice, four choices of vegetables and your choice of meat like bulgogi or kalbi or whatever dish you wanted.
I am so glad u guys went to eat Hawaiian food ! 😌 Like Im Hawaiian and haven't ate any food of theirs lately . Plus I am proud that u guys tried lots of food and enjoyed it ~😋
Hayley Croke not only that but lets be honest quiet restaurants are pretentious and boring. If you get sushed in a restaurant you don't really wanna go there with friends.
i agree.. loud.. or "all moutt" lol ..but when its really time to speak up.. its a lost for words.. hawaii is a very corrupt state.. everyone needs to wake up .. speak up n. not let these fkn jokes rip us off anymore with all the traffic criminal n BS taxes for nonsense.. sry for the TMI... jus thought id xplain bout the "speakin up" part..
I'm from hawaii and this video totally made my day! i can't wait to come back home for Christmas in a couple days :D another hawaiian food you guys should try is haupia or lomi!
True. I call it Modern-Hawaiian (1920/50's on...)food. Locals eat like that, all mixed in. Vs. real traditional Hawaiian, a la' ... Poi, lau lau, and deep in the past, breadfruit!
That was fun... I grew up a city kid, but island local(Honolulu/Oahu), with a Japanese mom and Haole dad from the Mainland.(an inbetweener) I loved Mac salad and the Portuguese sausage. Thanks & much Mahalos. Oh.., RoughRiders represent--Makiki punch bowl and palolo!
Pidgin is like the native language in Hawaii, and you must speak right. For example if I were to smoke, I'd say: "ho my braddah, this herb went hit the spot like banga👌, this fakah is cherreh🍒
where did you came up with the poke dish my own town in honolulu dont have that they I wish I can tried that up they but in the united state I dont no the places up they mahalo
Mimi Martin It actually has! A lot of people in Hawaii eat adobo and pancit and lumpia, which are all Filipino foods. The most popular dishes, though, tend to be the ones shown above for the most part.
I live in Hawaii and have wanted to try Filipino food but I can't find restaurants to go to for dinner. I know there are markets but I don't know how to cook Filipino food correctly so there's no sense in me buying ingredients there.
When I lived on Guam we had some of that food too because it's an island in the Pacific so it has all those different cultures which makes the food so delicious. You guys should try Chamorro food. Chicken kelaguen is so good!
Unless you have Hawaiian blood you aren't Hawaiian. These 2 are local and they know better. Homie looks like he just grad McKinley and she is straight up keeaumoku nail salon
So… Hawaiian cuisine is pretty much just the unhealthiest cuisine ever. I agree that it's delicious, but it really makes me wonder what Hawaiian cuisine was actually like before American GIs and massive fruit corporations took over Hawaii. You guys know that spam is the most popular meat in Hawaii because that's all US army men had back in the day right? That's why it's so prevalent in Korean and Filipino food….all countries that were owned by the US. I just hope there was some sort of authentic Hawaiian cuisine before spam came to shore.
There was. I don't know if a tad bit of Hawaiian history is taught anywhere, but it should be, because in hawaii we learn a lot about american and european history. Before settlers came to hawaii, hawaiians lived mostly off of the land. No spam here. Sure, some stuff was unhealthy and fatty, but the hawaiians needed it because they were constantly doing physical work. The only fat hawaiians were the rich ones because they didn't have to do anything (besides some of the men, like King Kamehameha who was a warrior) and had money to buy whatever food they wanted. hawaians weren't always the "unhealthy, fat" race that its seen as today. They were active, physical people.
taramisu Nah dude I'm not saying Hawaiians are fat or lazy. I'm just wondering what pre-colonial Hawaiian cuisine was...cuz I'm sure it was dope as hell.
you guys for got to try the lomi, it's also part of plate lunches as a side in Hawaii. The closest i got to real hawaiian food was from Bob's Hawaiian Style in Gardena
+Smeet Jaokar Itz a joke....no harm intended since I'm asian and i consider myself local, not hawaiian, even though i have hawaiian blood through both my parents side.
wait... what? no Taro? No taro leaves? no coconut cream fish? one question to all the 'TRUE' Hawaiians out there, Do you guys eat similar stuff to other Polynesians Islands (eg, Taro & Taro Leaves etc..) because based off this video a lot of stuff they were eating was Asian based.
+Hand Stand The thing about authentic Hawaiian food is that it can be quite on the pricey side. Unless you live in the countryside or grow your own taro/catch your own fish/opihi/seafood, it would be hard to sustain a lifestyle based solely on Hawaiian food without any of the apparent Asian influence. People do eat Hawaiian food, however. For me and my local friends we see it more as a cuisine type of food since we do not always get the opportunity to eat it. Fresh poi and Hawaiian seafood is something we do not come across everyday, sometimes months on end unless you actively search for it. The Asian influence is large in Hawaii, especially on the island Oahu where it has a long history of Asian influence and is the definitely the most major tourist attraction for Eastern Asians. It has integrated so much, people consider many of these Asian dishes (with definite American and Hawaiian influence) staple food to eat in Hawaii. But agreeing with the others, this definitely goes along the lines of local food and wouldn't be considered Hawaiian since that is an actual ethnicity. They definitely should make a video about authentic Hawaiian food.
Some of the food they shown is questionable. Spam musubi is not normally shaped into that rectangular block. You slice it and put it on the top or in the middle of the rice. That saimin is suspect... never seen one that has broccoli and carrots with no kamaboko.. same with their "stir" fried saimin. Chicken katsu sauce is not normally teriyaki (shoyu based).. it's some sort of combination of ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Even their Portuguese sausage looks off... it should not be curling in like that.. even McDonald's knows how to make Portuguese sausage look proper. Finally, mac salad in a Styrofoam cup is a fail. That should go directly next to the rice dine in or take out. As a foodie from Hawaii, that restaurant looks like it probably gets their ingredients from Costco.
If u dont have hawaiian blood, u aint hawaiian. I hate how it became a state, because ppl think their hawaiian when theyre from there. Its an actual ethnicity lol
+obamayomama9 I'm half white, born and raised in Hawai'i and I've been called Hawaiian by the tourists quite a few times. Uh, no. I'm a local, not Hawaiian! I know the difference!
Whewwwww that was good

Just throwin it out there. Mahalo

He was sooooo right when he said Hawaiians love their stir frys..... My dad makes them at least 3 times a week 😂
No way! Guam is the largest consumer of spam!

Filipinos are the largest ethnicity in Hawaii, I wonder why Filipino food hasnt had much of an influence.
Mimi Martin It actually has! A lot of people in Hawaii eat adobo and pancit and lumpia, which are all Filipino foods. The most popular dishes, though, tend to be the ones shown above for the most part.
and poke means vagina in philipino lol
Kane Bernardino in which dialect? the Philippines has TONS of different dialects.

Do these guys ever shut up
Why would they shut up???
The reason people like this channel is that they never shut up.
I think it isn't that they never shut up that's annoying, but it's that they're so cheesey and they intentionally say stupid shit.
Sthu
