Thanks for your video it was very helpful. I am just lost as to where to buy some of those good quality tools.
Really before you decide to buy any tools you need to have a project in mind first so as you dont buy tools that you wont need and you get the tool that's suitable for the materials you are going to cut. Generally most people use double wheeled nippers, they are a good allrounder, I like the Leponitt brand they are of a good quality and reasonably priced, you can buy them from Oz Mosaics who are based in QLD. Other tools the compound nippers from Beliana Mosaics in Victoria, glass scorer from stained glass stores, a scorer breaker from Bunnings, really depends what you need. :)
@@TreasuryRoad thanks. I do have a project in mind. I was hoping to make a mosaic mural of a garden and animals with mainly tiles and a few glasses tiles here and there to start with. I have been collection basic white tiles from tile places and I am going to most likely buy some coloured ones myself. I just wasn't confident in what to buy as I didn't want to end up with a bunch of poor quality tools. thanks.

What would you say is the best tool for cutting and shaping winckelman tiles? I have the seabell nippers but they're obviously only made for glass as far as im aware. I want to do petals , circles ect
Hi Lorraine. I would consider either the Montolits 55w2 or the SeaBell Max Pro compound nippers. You are right the SeaBell double wheeled glass nippers are only made for glass. Thanks for watching. :)
@@TreasuryRoad Thankyou , Just ordered the montolit. I had the QEP compound and where I'm just starting out hadn't realised the gap was far to big for the winckelmans 🤦♀️
The Montolits are good. The gap on the SeaBell Max Pro compound nippers do not open as wide are a smaller tool rather than the big tradie type compound nippers. I made a video demonstrating them if you want to have a look. :)
Peter, I have been into numerous hardware shops and asked for 'compound nippers'. I have ended up with numerous nippers, which I really don't think are compound nippers. They don't look like the ones you have used in the video here. Where would you advise me to ask?
You may need to go into the building hardware stores, or have a Google, Amazon also sell them. There are new ones coming out by Seabell that l consider to be the best in the marketplace so you may want to hold off. I am currently doing a video review on them. If you look at my videos I have created a small trailer on them l think it’s my third last video. Due to the design Compound nippers multiply the force to generate the cut with less effort. I use a Taurus ring saw. I go just outside the line in case of chipping the grind.
Yes I have a Taurus ring saw as well and dont use it I prefer to develop my skill level, they are also expensive to buy and most people dont have one. :)
Do you have more videos on cutting different shapes?
There are other projects where I cut out shapes but are not labeled specifically as shape cutting. :)
Do you ever use a sanding stone to finish off?
I haven't used a grinding stone but I have used a diamond sanding pad with water. I try and avoid doing any sanding or grinding because it takes extra time if I am creating a large project. On smaller projects or a project that's going to be handled then I will grind the tess. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
I think you mentioned something in another video about wetting a tile before nipping it. Is this still true?
Yes you can wet your tile when I came up with the idea I made a video on that, its on this channel, some even use it on crockery. If your tile isn't difficult to nip then its not necessary. :)
After you cut them do you sand it to soften the edges?
I generally don't unless the edge is exposed for instance its on the edge of a mosaic where someone could cut themselves. You can run a bit of sandpaper, sanding diamond pad or a file just to take the sharp edge off if you need to. Just make sure you wear a P2 or a N95 mask if you aren't using any water. :)

I am interested in buying the tool for precise cutting of the mosaic. What is it called? Where can I buy it? I live in Israel/ thnks
I'm not sure which tool you are referring to, but the double wheeled nippers are the ones I used most in the video and are not suitable for very hard tile, for harder tile you would need a pair of Montolit 55W double wheeled nippers and the other pair with the yellow handles are called compound nippers, these are fine for very hard tile. I'm not sure where you will purchase these in Israel, you would need to Google them or you can purchase them from a mosaic retailer that does international shipping, I think Amazon also has them. Thankyou and my pleasure. Many people use a stained glass grinder, but it can void some manufactures warranties, so it’s best to purchase a good second hand one or if you’re in Australia the Inland Mini Maxi grinder can do stained glass and crockery. Available from Merlin Mosaica and Axess Glass. 😊

I will search your vid selection but would like instructions on how to cut tiles to make triangle patterns from small to medium & slightly larger. Just curious to know if most tiles have some form of nasty silica in them? It seems like a decent N95 mask would be essential.
@@grittsy You could make a template out of paper and then use a glass scorer to score the tile where you want the break to be and a scorer breaker tool to break the tile along the score line, you should get good triangles. Definitely a good N95 or P2 mask, avoid the KN95 masks they are cheaper Chinese ones but are not approved to meet the standards of NIOSH. All ceramic tiles, crockery, concrete, slate, etc contain silica. :)

Im not sure why you would buy an electrical cutting tool, I am just showing how to cut small glass tiles with a few hand tools. Perhaps you maybe thinking of some other larger glass tiles. :)

@@michelesnoopy I think the terminology you're looking for is scoring and breaking glass sheets or hobby sheets and then cutting them, rather than glass tiles. Cutting small glass tiles is easy but for people starting out it may not be. I have already produced a number of videos on cutting and shaping stained glass using various tools. I would be looking at the QEP one, looks to have comfortable handles, just be aware that the handle opens up quite wide well it does on my ones, check out my video review on compound nippers and that will explain it better. :)
