Hey Brother- I’m an African American . I was an exchange student many years ago in Venezuela. There’s a lot of us there too. Especially in the mountains. Many of our ancestors ran into the mountains to escape slavery and the Spanish did not go up there. I tell you they lied to us in school. They took so many of us. So many .

Big ups, Wode Maya! Your Suriname video was an eye-opener - I had no idea there was a country by that name until now. You're helping to correct the falsehoods we've been taught in schools about our own heritage. Thank you for being an outstanding ambassador for Africa, Wode Maya. Thats the coolest vice president in the world. Thanks maya for showing us our brothers and sisters whom we didnt know existed. Clearly slave trade was brutal
Thank you Wode Maya for reaching out to the diaspora and teaching us so much about our families everywhere. I have to visit Suriname and hopefully Ghana someday. 🇹🇹🇺🇸🇸🇷🇬🇭
Mann, this is one of the most honoring that one can ever experience in another country. Proud of the people and the VICE- PRESIDENT. The VICE PRESIDENT seems to be a very humble person from how he took you WADE MAYA. This is really awesome!!!
The simplicity of Wode Maya, the Vice President and the people is very commendable. The simplicity of this Vice President should be studied in African schools
I am impressed by this humble Vice President . He is loved by all Africans we will receive him back home anytime he chooses to visit African. One Black people one African
Wode Maya as a descendant of African in the diaspora and one who was blessed to be able to visit the Motherland as did many others now, I did some 15 yrs ago. Watching this gives me the chills I am here bawling my eyes out it is so emotional to experience this. You are truly God sent there was truly a purpose why you were unable to get your original flight straight from Brazil to Jamaica. The Spirit of the Ancestors were determined that you serve your purpose …just imagine, we can’t deny or ignore them any longer 400 yrs is enough it’s been too long . You truly have a mission and you are fulfilling it. It is well with their souls. You are blessed and born with the purpose of bridging the gap could not be a better medium or pulpit to do it from.
These people managed to blend and come up with a language of their on with some words from the mother land and maintain some traditions260 yrs down the line
Just a language of resistance : a legacy of the ancestors surviving from Africa to Surinam. In Jamaica it's patois( a combination of English with African syntax)
Okay. I now have to visit Suriname 🇸🇷 bro. The hospitality is amazing. And seeing a whole vice president without 20 cars and just chilling with his citizens, esting on the same plate with the locals and they seemed very chilled like to them is just one of them was amazing to see. Such a cool vice president, a great leader he seems
I have read about the Maroons from Surinam and Jamaica and also Afro Colombians on how they escaped from their colonial masters and went into the deep forest to establish their own settlements & language far away from where they would not be captured. These remote areas of Surinam reveal what terrible conditions Blacks taken into slavery had to endure just to remain free from captivity. These Blacks in Surinam surely kept all their original West African tradition for so long. Great discoveries Wode Maya in finding our lost African descendants. 🇺🇸👍🏿
Wode Maya! A young man doing legendary things! Blessings all the way. The speech with the Vice president was eloquent and on-point. Much respect to his excellency for making time available to meet up, listen and have a conversation.
Is it because they are fantis like him. When the lady speaks, I understand some of the words as a fanti. I feel so proud as a fanti, but I also feel so sad too. Hopefully, we shall all meet and introduce ourselves to each other. I am looking forward to maya going to St Louis of USA to speak to our brothers and sisters over there.
yes, the languages are very similar. the maroons were captured from the western and central parts of Ghana and sent to the Caribbean and parts of south America.
Hey Wode Maya! I'm so impressed with this amazing documentary about your tour of the diaspora in the West. I'm African Jamaica in NJ always watching your videos. Also, I have been so curious about Suriname for many years now, having seeing excerpts from piece meals documentaries. However, yours and within this time, is so in depth despite being short in duration. It really brings me closer to my people. You see anywhere Africans are, from Africa to the diaspora, all are my peoples. I can hardly imagine colourful history of survival conquering the depths of the inner lands while fighting against the wretched oppressions of slavery. For sure without any doubt, the retention of the African heritage is overwhelming in Suriname at the top of my list. I said it and think so without any doubt. Haiti, my closest neighbour from another island may just be the next; while my home island Jamaica and other ranges in various degrees. Yes, the maroon and Rastafari communities with a few others in Jamaica have been significant in that course but for sure where the retention is highly favoured in my opinion is Suriname and of course the geography is dynamic in the reason for that. That young professional lady who arranged your meeting is truly a blessing, warm and graceful at heart. Also, what touched me, even more in extent, is the warm open welcoming of the Vice President. His exemplary style of leadership was even more mind blowing when he ate from the same plate of the village lady his people. So down to earth, of what true African leadership is powerfully about; being one with the people. Continue your good work Maya and be blessed. I look forward to see your in Jamaica; the land of my birth. One Love ❤.
In all of the videos I have watched of you, this is the most proudest I have been. You not only gave a good account of yourself, you made your nation proud, the African continent proud. You have some grace following you that not everybody has. Not even the very rich. Congratulations to you.
I'm so happy to see some of my original Africa family who did not stand up to be colonize by now slaves masters we salute my brother and sister we as a people for never giving up . Thank you Wade Maya for exposing your Africa brother and sister in the dispora to the new rebeurt to know who we're and giving us the yearning to come back home to the African continent. No more visit to Europe and Spain.❤️☮️🇹🇹🇺🇸🙏🏽
Watching this makes me feel so good. I have been to Suriname for work about 3 times and i while there I remember seeing so many black people and thinking to myself that most African Americans dosen't even know this place exists. Im glad you are bringing notoriety and connecting the dots.
English is my second language. Why did you choose the word notoriety. Sounds negative or am i missing something. I am sure that is not your intention but language matters.
Americans are very big on what "they didnt teach us in school" but what about self study. The average American knows everything about celebrities but nothing about the rest of the world even in the "age of information" being at your fingertips with "smart" phones. I am happy you've been there, that's pretty dope. My friend from Detroit who is african american and sierra leonean visited us once while we were in Suriname on vacation. To her it was "like Jamaica but the people aren't "aggressive" "
Wade Maya, this idea of yours to connect our brothers and sisters in the diaspora to Africa and our brothers and sisters in Africa is beginning to work brilliantly. I see greater things to follow in the near future. Thank you so much.
These are the types of videos I can truly appreciate. They are not just travel, connecting the dots, but they are documentaries the world needs to see. It give me such a great feeling to watch.
❤❤💯💫💫🌍🌍 Can't recall any of our present diaspora leaders ever making those powerful linkages when it comes to our African beothers and sisters. Long live Wode Maya sending you love and light.
Whenever im exhausted by the hate and division in the world , i watch your channel. Its beautiful to see the world through your eyes. If you ever come to San Francisco, California, USA, I'd love to meet you.
Wow! I couldn't quit smiling while watching this video. You're blessed. You are so right there're so many similarities in Ghana I see in this video. The tossing or rolling the rice balls aka Omotuo blew me away. Very proud Wode Maya.
His our warrior and saviour. We the Maroons love him very much. One the most lovable people in Suriname and who fights for the people and the greatness of Suriname.
It is so good to see you connecting to our brothers and sisters in Suriname. I love the fact that his excellency is open to reconnecting with Ghana and the rest of Africa. The ancestors are truly moving through you, Wode Maya. Forward Ever!!!
I,m not so young, born in Surinam. I follow Wode Maya and miss Trudy for years now. This young couple is our today rollmodel for people of African descent. Afri Can ( Freedom is Possible). Watch brother Ray Higgins every time he starts his program : The African in me loves the African in you, since we are together there is nothing we can do. It,s so easy , so easy , easy to LOVE. Vice President of my country did a great job. We,re now connecting woldwide , the emotions are heartwarming , thanks to Wode Maya and the great Spirit who invite him to Surinam. Now it,s time for our Economic Freedom Fight.
The first time I heard about Suriname was in a movie, now getting to know it more through Wode Maya is super amazing, I like the humbleness and simplicity of the Vice president
Stay humble, and your influence joining the Diaspora will be successful. Mr. Vice President, you make me proud! I'm watching from Philadelphia, PA in the U.S.
Wode Maya, I am proud of the VP for taking you to his people that he is proud of. Most leaders would stop or feel shy of going back to their people. Congratulations, for taking us to Suriname. But do not forget Jerry John Rawlings first made Ghanaians know of Suriname during the revolution days. Please, do more to bring African and Suriname closer further after what Jerry started. Thank you.
I remember watching an episode by Andrew Zimmer in the jungle of Suriname 🇸🇷. He met an elder of one of the villages and he told him his ancestors are from Ghana. Years later a Ghanaian journalist made that trip and it was such an emotional moment for him. They were able to communicate in Twi or one of the Akan languages. We need this bridge to be built and a lot of these nations including the islands in the Caribbean should be part of the African Union by heritage. The Vice President is a real man of the people, the humility is amazing he puts our African leaders to shame.
Suriname must be very peaceful and safe... VP travelled to his village with no security that's very very mind blowing because in Ghana because of their criminality they scared and feel threatened even with massive security guards
This is an amazing opportunity to network between Suriname and Ghana. Think BIG Maya! Imagine the schools, hospitals, banks, water and power grids, and etc. that will be built from this meeting.
Im wish that the president from Suriname🇸🇷 go to all africa country than it gonne be more better fore each other grown and sepoort each other country wallt with export en inport ect ect .jahbles africa and the holl caribbean country most come together one love🇸🇷🇯🇲ect ect ect ect.✌🏾that is always my wishes🇸🇷🇯🇲ect ect ect✌🏾
When you treat your people right, when you try to improve their lives, when you do not steal the country's money and send your children to the diaspora to live then you do not need security, but if a minister is all of the above then you better get security
This is an amazing welcoming. What's striking is the evident fact than Non-anglophone diaporal Africans had kept their mother or native tongue (and thus could preserve their culture). That's a clear manifestation of bravery.
Yes, I have heard of Suriname but this is the most that i've been immersed in Suriname the country and culture. Thanks Mr. Ambassador Wode. I look forward to visiting there soon.

@@musayau7476😂
Thats the coolest vice president in the world. Thanks maya for showing us our brothers and sisters whom we didnt know existed. Clearly slave trade was brutal
Well done brother. This video just made me love Suriname. The vice president is humble and lovely, he's a good leader.
The lost brothers and sisters, reuniting them with the motherland, beautiful.
Thank you Wode Maya for reaching out to the diaspora and teaching us so much about our families everywhere. I have to visit Suriname and hopefully Ghana someday. 🇹🇹🇺🇸🇸🇷🇬🇭
Suriname really felt like home 😊
@@WODEMAYA you're my hero
You are doing big things! Go baby! 😀🙌🏼
❤️
We did not perpetuate evil like they did, but we bring a blessing! I was brought to tears to see our people not bog down with hate but jubilant!
Watching from Kenya and appreciating your efforts of bringing the world to our rooms. Keep going Wode.
Thanks for watching 😊
@@WODEMAYAfrom kenya too i am maya this is lovely
Mann, this is one of the most honoring that one can ever experience in another country. Proud of the people and the VICE- PRESIDENT. The VICE PRESIDENT seems to be a very humble person from how he took you WADE MAYA. This is really awesome!!!
The simplicity of Wode Maya, the Vice President and the people is very commendable. The simplicity of this Vice President should be studied in African schools
This guy is a dream come true in our generation applaud 👏 too Wode Maya
🥰
Yes man, remember the days of him in China and the surprise of the Chinese when he begins to talk their language.
Amen 🙏
I am impressed by this humble Vice President . He is loved by all Africans we will receive him back home anytime he chooses to visit African. One Black people one African
Won't bring the VP to Tanzania 🇹🇿 Much Love👊❤
Wode you are a trailblazer for the diaspora...I tell many people of African descent/diaspora about your channel. Love from Chicago💪
I appreciate that!Thank You so much
@@WODEMAYA❤❤❤❤❤
Compliments from Suriname 🇸🇷 YEYE AFRICA 🌍 OUR MOTHERLAND July 2024
I have read about the Maroons from Surinam and Jamaica and also Afro Colombians on how they escaped from their colonial masters and went into the deep forest to establish their own settlements & language far away from where they would not be captured.
These remote areas of Surinam reveal what terrible conditions Blacks taken into slavery had to endure just to remain free from captivity. These Blacks in Surinam surely kept all their original West African tradition for so long.
Great discoveries Wode Maya in finding our lost African descendants. 🇺🇸👍🏿
We don't use the term "blacks" it's derogatory 😅✌🏾
Wode Maya! A young man doing legendary things! Blessings all the way. The speech with the Vice president was eloquent and on-point. Much respect to his excellency for making time available to meet up, listen and have a conversation.
Suribam..i think henry and gallas come from there🎉🎉🎉
Wode Maya spoke his native language (FANTE) from Ghana 🇬🇭 and the old woman was able to understand him.
Who noticed that right there.?
VERY happy to learn that there is a COUNTRY called SARINAME for the FIRST TIME
The best VP I have ever seen...... May Allah continue to guide him❤❤❤
Watching this makes me feel so good.
I personally have never heard of it
@@muchit3629 I guess he meant to imply 'publicity.'
Amen!!!!
Thank you Wode Maya & God Bless you❤️🤲🏻🙏
Suriname 🇸🇷 😍❤️
As always, great work Wode Maya, that was great hospitality from Suriname people and Vice President! Pass our warm greetings from Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪
Now I know Africa is the Whole World. Africa extends beyond borders.
Wow! I couldn't quit smiling while watching this video. You're blessed. You are so right there're so many similarities in Ghana I see in this video. The tossing or rolling the rice balls aka Omotuo blew me away. Very proud Wode Maya.
I don't see the VP moving with body guards. He is using his own phone to shoot videos and photos. He's so humble, @WodeMaya. Stay blessed, bruh.
hi, with him no need, he is someone very respected and appreciated, he is one of our living warriors.🇸🇷🇸🇷 my home
His our warrior and saviour. We the Maroons love him very much. One the most lovable people in Suriname and who fights for the people and the greatness of Suriname.
Tears in my eyes watching this Maya. We needed this Caribbean connection as a people. God continue to bless you. Stay true to the mission.
It is so good to see you connecting to our brothers and sisters in Suriname. I love the fact that his excellency is open to reconnecting with Ghana and the rest of Africa. The ancestors are truly moving through you, Wode Maya. Forward Ever!!!
OMG, I am jealous of this village. we've lost this level of communalism in our villages in Nigeria. Thank you Maya for showing us this.
Tu fait la fierté de toute l’Afrique Bro, courage à vous nous sommes derrière vous 😊
This land and its people looking very nice and friendly above all peaceful. Lovely African family

Wow, when the native Surinamese danse with you, I believe you see yourself in Ghana! The African moves are the same, it's from the blood.
Surinam, Is just like Africa--WOW
The VP is a real human.i wish all were like him. Moving around without body guards❤
When you treat your people right, when you try to improve their lives, when you do not steal the country's money and send your children to the diaspora to live then you do not need security, but if a minister is all of the above then you better get security
He was a bodyguard himself
My brother Maya the village boy thanks 🙏🏿 so so much for bringing us together 🥰 one people one Africa.
H3333 a VP without any police security and eat locally with the ordinary as well
Infact is only Suriname 🇸🇷
Fantastic
exactly my thought.. if it were some countries i know hmm..
Woooow!!!A very down to earth VP. He doesnt fear his own people like what other misleaders do.
We IGBOS Love u WODEMAYA .. well done Jisike
Africa is much than igbo
This is an amazing welcoming. What's striking is the evident fact than Non-anglophone diaporal Africans had kept their mother or native tongue (and thus could preserve their culture). That's a clear manifestation of bravery.
His interview with Ghana president was canceled but now he flying in a private helicopter with Surinamese vice president. Shame on you Ghana
WODE MAYA YOU ARE THE GREATEST❤ U ALWAYS IN GOOD COMPANY ❤WHO AGREE?❤❤❤
Absolutely a blessed one
Amazingly welcoming people. Thank you Surinam
I can see a humble vice president. Very simple man with a lot of respect for his people. God bless you Mr vice president

May God continue to bless our people, our indigenous brothers and sisters wherever they are. RISE UP, Africa! God bless Suriname!
