My family are from St Lucia in the Caribbean but I was born and raised in the UK. One day I hope to visit the land my ancestors were removed from.       Kong snel boi, I am from Suriname and to my surprise I am part Sierra Leonean (DNA kit showed me that). So although a lot of Suriname people think we are all from Ghana there is more African blood running through our veins

    Maya I'm so happy your are connecting with your long last brothers and sisters in the new world, I'm so happy for you, As I keep on saying we the diasporas was taken out of Africa but Africa was NEVER taken out of US...While you connected here with the diasporas, I finally made my 1st trip back to Mama Africa, and I love it there, so develop, so beautiful, I felt so good...because of an unexpected event that took place in my life beyond my control...The Motherland was the ONLY place I needed to be...and I must say that was a SUCCESSFUL trip.

    It's beautiful to see the amazing and loving people of Suriname. Before now, whenever the country is mentioned, I think of Dutch black footballer who have their roots in Suriname, but seeing this videos gives me a much more broader view of the country itself.     There are so many Surinamese in the Netherlands due to the Dutch language and history in Suriname. I lived in the Netherlands for a while and enjoyed their food there.

    Hello Wode Maya, I must confess I have followed you for a number of years.. But guess what I have not subscribed to your channel yet... I'm Nick or Kwaku.. I'm Ghanaian.. from Bodada in Oti Region.. I live in UK with my family... Your trip to Suriname.. Is my trigger... I was in Suriname in the 1980's with my late Dad.. I was privileged to travel with him then as a young man.. Suriname will shock you.. Yeah you will be Amazed you will hear names similar to Ghanaian names.. even the language and words..     Hey Wode Maya, it seems the path you've been on was guided by a higher force. You initially planned to visit Jamaica after Brazil, but it appears that the divine had different intentions for you. Instead, you were led to Suriname, then Guyana and after that Trinidad and Tobago. As the scripture states, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

    Maroon Village eh! Wonderful . In Jamaica we have Maroon Town. These people are mostly from Ghana. The Ashantis and Koromantins were great fighters. They learnt Military strategies from the great woman, Nanny of the Maroons and her brothers, They had Ghanian names. Accompong which is Acheampong in Ghana, was one of the brothers.

      The English took a lot of people with them from Surinam to Jamaica and Guayana when they left Surinam to the Dutch. They where the same people becoming marrons in Surinam and Jamaica and Guayana. Same blood.

    Surinamese and Ghanaians have a very interesting history. I met the ambassador here at a meeting and she heard my name and was like what, you have a similar name to my people.
