AS a long time fan of explosions, Ive seen them a few times. Im going to see them on the 23 and honestly I think they blow explosions out of the water. NO disrespect to explosions tho. Six days at the bottom of the ocean is by far one of the most beautiful tracks ive ever herd.
This guys are just epic! I hope they come down to Mexico sometime... I'm more into then than what I am into Explosions in the sky, Caspian share some kind of a heavier sound (which I like better) along with Russian Circles and Pelican. But as a band, shit, Caspian really set the bar pretty high!
Whoever thumbed this performance down, needs a gigantic slap in the face...Caspian are truly something to witness on record, and on stage. Brilliant work KEXP as always..
I saw Caspian @ DC9 Nightclub on 10/22 in DC and it was an additional hour and 1/2 of such an incredible performance like this, truly stellar show!!! I cannot say that enough!!
Me through the first 3 minutes or so: "Great start." "Oh, nice build going on here..." "Loving this, much depends on the vocals." "Much depends on the vocals..." "Much depends..." "Hell yeah!!!!"
Daaaaaaaaaammmmnnnnn. That ending was fucking incredible. I stumbled upon this from an EITS vid, and wasn't too impressed at first. I've definitely had a change of heart and will be listening, buying and seeking out live shows from Caspian. Drums and strings is all ya need. Nice work fellas.
Please do yourself the favor and see them live. Their albums are solid, but they are the very definition of a live band. Their sound is incredible, their energy is off the charts. I have seen them 5 times, and I refuse to miss a show when they are in town.
@@TheAmazingARD, yep... saw them the first time on their "Waking Season" tour, and it was a literal epiphany. The kind where I left stunned, not fully able to explain what had just happened. I've seen them four times since. They're leviathans...
Syncing this accidentally with Tim Hecker's "An Imaginary Country" album is proving to be VERY beautiful. Start this at 2:37 of the Tim Hecker album. What a synergy.
"It was just on the radio - they're launching a full blown nuclear attack. We're all gonna die within an hour or so. All of us!" *Me* - rushes to UA-cam and puts on Arcs of Command...."I've got the perfect soundtrack!!"
I always want to come up with something eloquent and verbose when it comes to a Caspian performance but the only thing that comes out of my brain at the end is "FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!"
+christianrockr08 You can get that kind of effect with the ZVex Lo-Fi Junky/Instant Lo-Fi Junky like Jules said, but looking at his board, I don't see one of those. He's likely using the El Capistan which is a tape echo. If you ramp the wet mix and turn the time all the way off and adjust "Wow and Flutter" along with tape age, you can get this effect. You can use some other pedals to get this sound, but I think this is what he's specifically doing.
I've always loved this band, but early on thought they were just mugging off EITS. Now, they've totally come into their own. This is next-level stuff, boys!
Awesome, seeing them with Katatonia next year. "I'm glad I checked them out!" is a massive understatement. More so the depressing feeling of "Where have you been all my life?" ;;;)
Aaron Mercer when I told someone I was at the venue to see Caspian and don't caremuch for underoath I got weird looks from everyone. to me I think Caspian was amazing and opened my eyes and inspired me. and then underoath came on and everyone just wanted to mosh and the music was just taken out of me
That's the magic of his El Capistan. It's a tape delay, so, not only does it do normal delay, but it can sound like the tape is crinkled, among other things, to get these kinds of sounds.
It can do all kinds of things. It has its four knobs, but each knob gets a new function if you hold down both switches. I recommend watching a video explanation of it or looking up a user manual. Mine arrives tomorrow. I'm pumped!
Hearing Cheryl Waters say "Holy shit" at the end pretty much says it all. Yup. Holy shit.
I love this type of music. it'd be so cool if you could get This Will Destroy You on your show.
Darkfield 0:00
ASA 6:35
Ríoseco 17:15
Arcs of Command 25:57
The "holy shit" by the host at the end sums up my feelings after seeing this. Awesome performance!
that was beyond any words, just incedrible, well done Caspian
These guys have come so far. I used to think of them as discount Explosions in the Sky, not any more.

Axel Alvarez Forever Alone Festival? Are you going? because I will! yay!
right after rioseco, fastest string change I've seen. damn

I'm crying
I hadn't heard of this band until Saturday. I saw them with And So I Watch You From Afar. What an incredible show!
How in the name of all that is beautiful does this only have 100k listens? Solid set from an amazing band. Wish they'd do another tour soon/
ASA is a masterpiece.
Beautiful... seriously.

+Fossil Fishy It's crazy hearing bands like this and Explosions in the Sky and realizing how vocals are so unneccessary in music.
but also crazy how much vocals can sometimes add to music
Either you can be great without vocals like Caspian or also great with them like Sigur Rós
You can tell they put a lot of hours into each of these songs. Really well done.
I saw Caspian open for Minus the Bear this week and my reaction was the same as Cheryl: Holy shit

"It was just on the radio - they're launching a full blown nuclear attack. We're all gonna die within an hour or so. All of us!" *Me* - rushes to UA-cam and puts on Arcs of Command...."I've got the perfect soundtrack!!"
they are AMAZING!
Love you guys
This is just Amazing
I always want to come up with something eloquent and verbose when it comes to a Caspian performance but the only thing that comes out of my brain at the end is "FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!"

The breaking of the string on the Rioseco solo sounded surprisingly good.

OMG!!! awesome!!!
Rioseco reminds me of the interludes on Sunbather
+xyzpdq1122 I can kinda see what you're saying
Just saw these guys with Underoath in Chicago and it was like nothing I've ever seen. Fantastic music. Fantastic atmosphere.

Amazing!! From this evening you've got a new fan in Italy :) I go mad for instrumental music and these musicians are great!
🖤
Can anyone tell me what kind of effect the guitar player with the beard playing the Fender at 24:33 is using?
+christianrockr08 A friend mentioned the ZVex Lo-Fi pedal
+christianrockr08 You can get that kind of effect with the ZVex Lo-Fi Junky/Instant Lo-Fi Junky like Jules said, but looking at his board, I don't see one of those. His name is Philip lol. And there’s a whole website dedicated to their gear and what it does
There goes the headphones again.
Good shit
I've always loved this band, but early on thought they were just mugging off EITS. Now, they've totally come into their own. This is next-level stuff, boys!
Fucking great.
they need more guitarists
I see feelings...
DAyUm, that bass sound is wicked.
If you like this band, then you can listen TOTORRO.
+ThisisBrownfield Totorro are so fucking good!
Heyo yes. Can we throw in And So I Watch You From Afar while we are at recommending sick bands?
or even god is an astronaut?
What about We Lost the Sea?
holy shite.
what happened to phils guitar? technical difficulties? saw them live in birmingham, uk, a few weeks back.....new songs sounded great.
They sound like what people wish U2 still sounded like.
dude, U2 was never this good
U2 Sucks
tasty bassline 3:31
What is that bass effect? Fuzz bc that is gives me chills when it kicks in
Превосходно!
Guau!
cool!! sorry for have not track you since 2010.
hahaha the holy shit at the very end. agreed though.
Pizza + Caspian = P a r a d i s e !
This sounds like a way out of misery
Saw them open for Underoath last night. Ridiculous live.
Awesome, seeing them with Katatonia next year.

What type of snare drum play the drummer ?
Chilean band shogun and Argentinians like Richard Coleman and Entreríos
at 24:10 how is he detuning his jazzmaster?
That's the magic of his El Capistan. It's a tape delay, so, not only does it do normal delay, but it can sound like the tape is crinkled, among other things, to get these kinds of sounds.
Thanks! It sounds like a square wave vibrato, I didn't know that the El Capistan could do that.
It can do all kinds of things. It has its four knobs, but each knob gets a new function if you hold down both switches. I recommend watching a video explanation of it or looking up a user manual.
Mine arrives tomorrow. I'm pumped!
what a neat jazzmaster he has!!!! no volume or tone knob. a minimal setup.
HOLLLYYY SHITTTEEE !
Any plans to tour the UK ???
Tripin...
