Good channel man. I had a husqvarna with a single cylinder 20hp Kohler with a 42" deck. I turned on the blades and it would bog down a few seconds. Got rid of it and now have a John Deere la135 yes it's 10 years old with 393 hours on the clock. Still a 42" deck but with a 22hp Briggs and let me tell you, what a huge difference in the two. Love the Briggs. Never own another Kohler. And by the way I subbed well because of your knowledge, but mostly for giving God the glory in all we do. Thank you my friend, hope nothing but the best for you.

Hello I have a couple of projects going and one them. i purchased a 1989 MTD HYDROSTATIC 995.
Well the power was from a 694cc Briggs and stratton twin cylinder opposed horizontal 18 hp.
But the owner i purchased the tractor from said the engine was locked up, but he even showed me the spark electrode was even pushed over to one side.
so I figured the engine was shot and look for a different engine or something close.
I did find a Kohler twin opposed 18 hp and I purchased it $50 .
But then I started running into problems mounting holes are off, then my pto belt which runs in front of the engine to turn pto down under the front axle.
So I decided to open the original engine, I find that the connection rod bolts, but one bolt was out and the the other still attached, but the cap was causing the engine to be locked jammed on the other connection rod.
so I drilled the head of the connection rod bolts a small hole and used wire and lock the bolts.
but the crank journal was scuffed up and so was the cap but did nothing torqued them down.

Got a Husqvarna YTH24K48 I’m doing this swap on. Exact same Briggs engine. My question is, On the wiring for this did you only move the one red jumper wire to middle and it just plugs up? Also I have an electric PTO for the blades and wondered if you had any issues with that with this combo? Thanks in advance. Love the videos by the way.

Definitely a slight upgrade in engine quality. The courage sucks. But if you wanted the best possible engine the Kohler command was probably the best choice. Briggs vanguards suck. I had a few. The pro series and commercial turf is the same as the intek no matter what they say. And kawasaki. I have a john deere x540 with a fd590v and its got a rod knock at very low hours. And it’s liquid cooled. A shame. Kohler command is the best small engine ive ever owned. Best quality components and quality control with lots of hp and torque. But good vid!

After struggling with a crappy Kohler courage since new, it has finally self destructed. Lousy motor. I have purchased a Kawasaki fs691v-s08 for a replacement. I verified the shaft compatibility, but I can’t find any info on the electrical/muffler/throttle cabling? Any suggestions for information about this swap? It’s going into a yts4500 mower.

Man,, idk..I've never swapped from hohler to kawasaki. Anything can be made to work. Itll be a wiring issue if nothing else. May hav to move some pins around. Id get a schematic of both and compare. That's adventurous for sure. Let me know how it turns out.
They all work the same way. So I'd say wiring should be the only problem.
As far shaft size, u could always get a pto for a kawasaki.
Some non-pto stator don't put out enough to keep the battery up. May hav to switch the voltage regulator..

That is a lot of money to put into an older tractor. What is next the spindles or the transmission? He must really like the machine for sure. That is a lot of work to change that engine. Yes, figuring out the wiring and all that could be very frustrating. And then getting off the pto and pulleys could also a real pain in the keester. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

Plug and play, if the wiring connector is good. If not u may hav to move some pins in the connector. Sometimes u will hav to move your black wire connector pin. Just match ur wire colors at the connector. If its worse than that, briggs makes a connector adapter.

Sometimes at the most, u will uav to change 1 wire.just pull the past n and move it.
Id hav to look at it to see exactly which wire.
Look at ur existing (cub) wiring plug,
Notice which pins go where, and line em up, u shouldnt hav to change but 1.
There might be anything wrong with the way it is set up.
Briggs also makes a wiring swap connector.

I got mine from power distributors, but they're a dealer only distributor.
Alot of times u won't need the plug, mostly plug and play, u MIGHT hav to move the black wife in the wiring harness. Just make sure the wires colors match in the harness. And if ur blade pto is manual, and the engine that is being used was a electric pto, u can put too many volts to the battery. So u might need to swap voltage regulator also. But doubtful.
