I am slowly restoring a 79 Firebird and trying to decide what carpet to get. That's how I ended up here. I have to say in my Jackie Gleason voice "That's the damn most knowledgeable carpet video I've ever persued!" 😂 But in all seriousness I really enjoyed it! The man knows is yarn and his job! Excellent! Thanks! 👍👍👍
A neat video, very glad that you could get Roger to talk about the original carpets, and the changes the business and the materials went through to get us the product he makes and you sell today. Very well done.
I'm glad that they're coming out with better carpet! The black ACC carpet that I installed in my 67 Cougar in 2007 turned a purple-brown color within 6 months! Next, maybe someone will come up with seat upholstery that doesn't split when the weather gets cold!
That padding on the brown carpet was what my 1981 Econoline van came with when I ordered the full length rubber floor covering to match the front on my E-150. I wanted to customize the van later and got the full length head liner too. The custom shop put new captain's chair in my van but told me not to leave that under padding material and rubber if I go with full carpet . The material was said to collect mold build up because of the climate for the freeze-thaw cycles and night time Dew-Point . This because the floor of the Van would sweat as the inside air was not as cold as the metal and condense. Sure enough around 1983 lifted the rubber cover and there was a few spot of white stuff that looked like salt powder , plus the large round head bolts that mounted the shell to the frame had a fuzz powder covering as it corroded . Not too sure if my problem was that the padding couldn't breathe because the cargo area past the driver was one large sheet of rubber and I had the Custom trip appearance package where the step wells had bright strips that screwed down over the rubber plus the rear cargo door sill had the trim edge pieces. If anyone still uses this padding in the car with direct contact to the floor, you might want to lift the carpet up every 3 years if you're in the upper States with temps from 25 - 80 and the Dew-points at night. The backing on some carpet today has a film to stop liquids from seeping through , but this was sweating problem from direct contact to the cold that cooled the floor while the inside air wasn't as cold plus in the day the sunlight warmed the van inside.
My 1983 Pontiac Parisienne Brougham has almost what I should describe as shag carpet in it. I have never seen stock carpet this thick. Even under the seats that were not stained, faded or worn it's like shag. This is a one family owner car with original carpet.
I purchased carpet fro oc I’m assuming that’s it’s the same company here, problem the matting that I paid extra was melted in the top area is this normal?
Nothing is made the same as back in the day. Especially upholstery. No comparision from oem to aftermarket. If you want a good heavy carpet. Order the essex. You will pay a little more but it is way heavier and looks better. And the jute pad that a.c.c. is using for the padding is junk.....i
I bought ACC carpet for my 67 cougar. It's horrible! If you line up the curves with the curves of the car the carpet will be floating with lots of pockets on the rounded inner corners. Yes I left it out in the sun to soften up prior. If I set to wear there won't be any air pockets in those said curves. The carpet is too short side to side ajd the sill will not cover it. Horrible carpet

Great to see a supplier making an effort to update and produce a better product. ACC is top quality and the best you can buy. Roll Tide!
