He went through so much. This was an excellent performance, and yet it was sad.
The piano denotes the starkness of a lonely soul Don!
I’ve been lucky enough to see Bocephus live in concert. He puts on a helluva show!! 🎸🔥☮️❤️👵🏼
The answer your question yes Hank Williams jr. Wrote the song he was a pioneer of Southern blues rock and roll deep bread in country music that song speaks Valium thank you for your reaction
Hank Williams jr recorded this song the first time back in 1975 then recorded it again in 2003 for his album I'm one of you
Didn’t somebody cover it in the 90’s. I know the song but I don’t think it’s his version I know.
@@GaOutlawVinyl TG Sheppard version came out in 1974 and was a hit single far as i know it's the original version hank Williams jr first recorded the song in 1975 then recorded it again for his 2003 album I'm one of you far as i know hank never released it as a single just and album cut so you probably hear TG Sheppard version it the version that got played on the radio back in the day
@@GaOutlawVinyl i don't know if anyone covered in the 90's
Robert Carter that must be the version I’m thinking of.
💘 the music and song he had his ups and downs
This was originally recorded by TG Shepherd. This was from a tribute special dedicated to Waylon
Yes i love Tg Shepherds music ❤❤
@@brandymccoyslone700Hank Jr. also recorded it in 1975 and had a top 40 hit with it. He re-recorded around 2005 and has another top 40 hit with it.
Reason hank is in the song writers hall of fame and the country music hall of fame as well
He writes his songs, he is in the song writers hall of fame in Nashville
Yes Don, I do cry and laugh. When you know a song well, you know the meaning (or think you do). I just sit back and watch you react. I amazes me how much you pick up from hearing it the first time. As you know, some songs will rip your heart out. You are good at mixing it up with fun songs here and there. Also, your Country Heart Collection keeps it from just being songs about making it in this world. It is a daily struggle that we all have. How we handle our struggles varies but music helps me. Sometimes I need the sad songs. We all love and lose in one way or another. Love the channel. Thanks Don.
Hank said it all. I am sure Hank lived it too. She will never know the hell I'm going through inside. Great song.
Hey Don, The first thing I thought of when I heard it was "is it about Keith Whitley? But I guess not looks like was written for TG Sheppard. What a sad way to live your life. Great reaction, Not a big Hank Jr. fan but he did a good job here Thanks Jessie and Don Have you done any Keith Whitley songs, They would be good to check out
he survived
There are some songs where you can really hear Hank Sr in Hank Jr's voice, and this is one of em.
Your comment about what type of songs he likes to preform reminded me of an interview Trace Adkins did. He said he met Hank Jr. when he was young. Him & his mom got to go on the tour bus. He sang Eleven Roses (A slow ballad) to them. When Trace made it big & met him again. He told him about meeting him before & him singing Eleven Roses. Hank’s response was “Thank God I don’t have to sing that shit no more”.
That was Toby Keith. He told that story on the Hank Jr episode of CMT Giants.
Gary Goodman sorry it’s been awhile since I seen it & im not a fan of Toby or Trace.
Written by Bobby Davis in 1974 for T.G. Shepperd. Hank recorded his cover in 2003
He actually covered this song twice. He covered it in 2003 on "I'm One of You" and in 1975 on the "Bocephus" album.
Don could you please do a reaction to Hank Williams Jr, “ Hamburger Steak Holliday Inn “ there’s no actual live performance or anything but the song captures what his life is like.
I like to see your reactions to these solid country tunes. I have listened to them for years and they still touch me. Three chords and truth timeless
The song was written by Bobby David and was a # 1 hit for T.G. Sheppard ca, 1975.
One way favorite concerts. Hank jr. in a field just outside Montgomery Al. In 1979. Good times!!
I am a Hank Jr. fan. I have seen him in concert 3 times. I enjoy his "Rowdy Friends" party songs, but his best work are the ballads he has done. Major Moves is his best, with Eleven Roses and Man of Steel close behind. I have gotten the impression from some of his comments that the ballads are where his heart is, but most his fans like the party songs.
This performance was on the CMT Outlaws Concert. And no they did not close the show with it. It also featured Kid Rock, Shooter Jennings, Jessi Colter, Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, Tanya Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Montgomery Gentry, and James Hetfield. The opening number of all them doing All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over was totally kick a$$.
Hey Don love your videos. Old school by John Conlee is one you gotta listen to buddy
Awesome! Great reaction! Hits ya right in the feels! Love and hugs for all~stay safe!
Good song hank. Good rating don
You wouldn't believe the stable i failed through and the puck she washed off my feet
I like hank Williams jr 1975 recording of the song better then the 2003 recording think the vocals are better on the first recording but hank was a lot young then
Also check out T.G.s do you wanna go to heaven and war is hell in the home front
War is hell on the home front too.
The piano was saying he lived.
under-appreciated song, off 1 of Hank's most overlooked albums, whole album is good,I'm One Of You,not a great seller but in my top 5 Hank Jr.albums.released in 2003 first album of Hank's after Waylon passed.has a great, fun tribute to Waylon on it called Waylon's Guitar you should check out
I love the music of Hank Jr. but on this particular song I think the original by T. G. Sheppard outranks Hank's cover. Hank is stellar at Heaven Can't be Found, Rainin' in my Heart, Eleven Roses and Country Boy Can Survive but it is my opinion that T. G. Sheppard has THE version of Devil in the Bottle. BTW, this song was written by Bobby David.
Don, thanks for keeping my long drives entertaining! Check out Angola’s Lament by Sam Riggs. I think you’ll dig it!
Good reaction, great song, I didn't know Hank did this song, I only knew it by an artist named T.G. Sheppard, and I honestly think T.G. did a better job on this than Hank, not saying Hank did a bad job, he didn't, I just think that T.G.'s voice is better suited to this type of song than Hank's. I would suggest you check out T.G.'s version, even if you don't do a video about it. He also had several big hits back in the day, you could react to some of them, "I loved them Every One", "Do You Wanna Go to Heaven", "Only One You", "Last Cheater's Waltz", to name a few.
Listen to Hanks 1975 cover of this song, it's on UA-cam
the man was playing an organ.
Gotta love Hank, great video Don!! Here’s one for ya, “OLD SCHOOL” by JOHN CONLEE. It’s a great story!
Mr weatherman by hank williams jr is another powerful one. But I must say this one right here is a fav of mine by him too.
You have to live it to be able to write a song like this.
One of the greatest country songs and better than the original by T. G. Sheppard which hit #1 on the country charts.
great karaoke number.......by t g shephard
Have you done the song If You Don’t Like Hank Williams? It’s a Kris Kristopherson song but pretty much everyone has covered it.
It's an old T.G. Shephard song you should check out some of his music it awesome
would like to see you react to george jones "wine colored roses"
@Matt Ferguson I’ve got half of your request coming up tomorrow-the George Jones part. Different song, but still pretty close.
@@RockN2Country i hope you enjoy.. if you do the sober saturday night i hope you get to the use the official video.
the original 70s one is a a lot better but both are great
Have you heard his “127 rose avenue” album i feel like he was deep in it too
Play more hank jr like outlaw women
What would you think that piano meant?
If you want a good story song can you react to hank Williams jr gibbonsville gold
Bobby David wrote this song and T G Shepard song it first.
morning Don watch out for low flying jets HAKAD
Yes T.G. Sheppard done a better job on this too you should check it out and compare
Who the hell is T.G. Sheppard? Hank is a legend.. I would rather hear a legend than a nobody I have never heard of before.
Hank rolled this, but, TG Shepherd did it better.
If you’re interested I can tell you what the piano meant.
@Travis Dean Always fun to learn things going on in the songwriting process, so feel free to share whatever you’re comfortable with.
You answered your own question.
