Good news It looks like the latest firmware v4.3 for the Mega Sg has corrected the 3 button controllers settings issue. In the video when I mentioned it doesn't look like the Genesis I was referring to the shape & design of the console which does not look like a Genesis/Megadrive no matter what color it is.
Since you mentioned the cost of the Mega Sg, which is a fair point, I was hoping you'd do the same for the cables & equipment required to run an original Genesis console on an HDTV.
The range really varies if using a cheap rgb scart converter you can get one for about 35 bucks with a scart cable running around $8. But the prices really very depending on how nice of RGB upscaler you want to get the nice ones can cost 300 plus dollars.
The Sega CD was a poorly designed contraption to begin with. Analogue should be commended for going the extra mile in terms of hardware peripheral compatibility. I'm fairly certain they'll come up with a firmware solution soon enough.
It's about $220 these days directly from Analogue (when in stock). I think it's worth every penny. They are averaging $400 from eBay scalpers now. Analogue does restock these periodically so best to keep looking at their site to get one at retail.
You've mentioned so many times how you can lift up the Mega SG compared with a bracket. The Mega CD is a 1x CDROM and the disc is floating not clipped it so it does not make vibration, also you place the unit on a flat surface, so I don't don't know what the fuss is about it not secure. Do what I do: use velcro, stick a nice strip from the opposite side which you lift up, done, secure and no more worries.
I have an Original Genesis and HD Retrovision cables. I think it looks great. After I got my Mega SG I went ahead and boxed up the original Genesis, I don’t have any reason I would choose it over the Mega SG. I suppose if I cared about the 32x I might feel differently or if I wanted to play on a CRT. Just my my two cents.
For my review I ended up doing a four way comparison of an OG Genesis via composite, then via HD Retrovision component cables, then the SG with dither blending turned on and off. It was a pain, but it helped sell the importance of the feature to me.
The jailbreak is unofficially supported by analogue as it wouldn't exist if kevtris had not created it. Only the person who wrote the fpga code could jailbreak it. And it can't be bricked.
Does the SMS Everdrive work with the SMS adapter? The SMS Everdrive is advertised not to support savestates when using the Powerbase adapter with a Geneis, so I wasn't sure if that applies here too.
Well it does beat the original system. Cant stand jailbars on original hardware.the SG supports FM audio where the original megadrive doesnt. SG also supports dither blending

There's nothing official about Genesis mini, its just another emulation box and more and likely will have the same hardware has the nes and snes mini with lag.
Don't count on it. M2 are kings of emulation due to emulating on a game by game basis, not just stock emulation as is common. Hacking the upcoming Genesis Mini will likely be problematic if not impossible.
@@8-Bit_Flashback Adding something that first converts the digital video from the AMSG to analogue and then after passing through the 32X back to digital output again sounds like something quite overcomplicated for what it would result in, and for how many be interested in such a thing in the first place. The advantage that almost no one is mentioning when reviewing Analogue Mega Sg and the Super NT, is the age of the original hardware. Let's face it, the original consoles are bound to fail sooner rather than later at this point and CRT TVs, come on, they are hard to find in good condition and they take a lot of space in the room. As to the Sega CD, well the guys at Terraonion have us covered for about 260$ (I know, it's pricey) with their Mega SD which I already ordered, thus getting rid of the problematic optical drive of the unit.
If design is what you're looking for then maybe you can try the Fei Hao Sega Genesis clone, it had much worst quality but the shell of the console is literally a carbon copy of an actual Sega Genesis Model 1 plus it's HDMI as well. Maybe you can buy that and put the guts of the Analogue Mega Sg inside it, the thing even had an opening for the Sega CD attachment as well even though it doesn't support it.
I love the fact that the Fei Hao Megadrive is 1:1 scale with the original. Sound is only in mono and there is no aspect ratio switch. It's still a pretty decent clone - even has the headphone jack and volume slider.
If enable force 3 button mode can you still get the 6 button to work with holding "mode" on the controller so that you dont have to keep toggling in menu?
Not when three button mode is enabled but with the latest update I believe they've corrected the issue I was having with three-button controllers. Mega SG should now recognize the 3 button controller without having change anything now.
The 32X compatibility is a non issue for me and I suspect most other "collectors". What's far more important is a working ODE and/or Mega CD in FPGA as the CD drives in those units are now at the end of their lives. They could make a slot loader that sits underneath the Mega Sg like a model 1 Mega CD. However, of course the issue for selling a clone Mega CD would be the bios.
The reason I'm not interested is the sound. It's crisp and exact but misses the soul of an HD model 1. There's a certain resonance that hasn't been emulated properly. The filters it has to try and correct it only mask it. There are probably many examples and the only way to understand is to own and listen to them un-condensed. For instance there's a certain wavy twang in Super Thunder Blade that gives it life. The notes sizzle out differently. The higher melody in After Burner II is almost non existent. Maybe for most it's minor, and if u don't own a decent model 1 u wouldnt know what u were missing anyway. I will say the mega sg has amazingly sharp visuals, but I wouldnt want to cut myself on accident ×)
Actually for me i never owned a model 1 with the nicer sound chips. So i am use to the sound having distortion on my model 1 and 2 but its actually very comforting because its just the way i remember it lol.
