This is hands down my favorite gun that I own, out of 10 currently. However, I am very glad to read that you only need to clean after 10,000 rounds because this was the biggest pain in the ass gun to clean Ive ever dealt with, even with the video.
Do you have those exact Allen wrenches and cleaning rods as used in the video?..If so what is the brand name of the cleaning rods?
Howard Williams here’s the hex wrench set: Bondhus 13390 Set of 10 Hex T-handles w/Stand, sizes 3/32-3/8" www.amazon.com/dp/B00012WYEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qT6eFbVPTNR4T
Howard Williams as far as cleaning rods, etc, you can find numerous shotgun cleaning kits, but I chose this one as I prefer to pull through in the direction of the bore vs. going in backward: Real Avid Gun Boss Universal Cable - 12 & 20 gauge, .17 - .45 caliber pull-through gun cleaning kit www.amazon.com/dp/B00AIQWNLA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zV6eFbBC891VS
@@howardwilliams8181 I've always used bore snakes for all my guns
That is a relief. I have seen engine rebuilds less complicated.
Just shot my FDE DP-12 yesterday for the first time - ran some Federal 00 Buck through it. WHAT.A.MACHINE. Will wipe the barrels down asap. I am in awe of how cool this Beast is.!!
That 10,000 cycle note was very relieving... I bought the gun before realizing the task it is to clean it. After I looked at the process in the manual I thought... crap, I gotta do that after each range trip?! Very happy that’s not the case. Thanks for the very informative video!
This is awesome, thank you connecticut shotgun for posting this great video that we all have been waiting for 👍. And also Thank you Ben Ferguson from the Dp-12 zone on Facebook for sharing this much needed video for all of us owners in the group. Really appreciate it. 👍👍👍
This is a great video but I agree with Byron Loyd. Please post a video of how to clean the gun after a range trip. Thanks.
Is it asking too much they build that weapon with the same size Allen wrench screws?
I love the peaceful music, while disassembling the world's most badass shotgun....
Since we do not need to do this disassembly after each trip to the range, would you produce a video of a typical cleaning after a trip to the range? What parts could you wipe down and lubricate? Thank you.
pretty much cleaning/lubing the barrels with the barrels with the brush and oil any metal surface then wipe with cloth
4:21-5:10
will wright what you linked requires the full tear down, does it not?
@@Just_A_BeGUNner it does, which is why they say not to bother unless you got it wet, muddy, or went through 10,000 rounds.
Throw your bore cleaner / carbon remover on a cloth and run it down the barrels. Thats the most cleaning I've ever done to it.
@@JLawL I shared this elsewhere a while back, but I reached out to Std Manufacturing directly for clarification on what "10,000" cycles was. Here's the answer: "A cycle of a DP-12 is basically the action of firing two rounds + one pump. So 10,000 would be that action times 10,000". So just FYI, 10,000 cycles would equate to firing 20,000 rounds. As for normal maintenance, I would assume that you could spray a solvent down the barrels, followed by a bore brush; then a bore mop with a little lube if planning to put it away for a bit. If not, still do the lube, followed by a dry mop. Happy gunnin'!
THANK YOU! Great video. After my first cleaning I felt a little buyer's remorse. Now it is back to being my favorite gun!
Some serious engineering went into making this firearm. Just got one 2nd hand at a gun show and can't wait to try it out. Got a really good deal on the price and it looks and seems to function perfectly. Thanks for making this video and designing such a great firearm.
thank you very much for this I bought a dp12 and now I know how to disassemble and clean it and assemble it very helpful and useful information thank you🐿
Thank you so much for publishing this. A very needed video.
Just bought a DP-12 and wish you would do a video on a Basic cleaning. What your showing hear is really for someone that wants to fully take apart this gun. Cleaning a regular shotgun you would take the barrel off but you can't do so with this gun without fully disassembling this gun. I'm sure others would like to see the proper way.
Thanks
Music is relaxing. Making the break down process slightly less stressful.😆
I just bought a DP12. I'm a little confused. The owner's manual seems to indicate it should be cleaned after each use, yet this video states that is not necessary. So I understand correctly, from the time I get, out of the box, up to 10K cycles, only a cursory wipe down is needed? Would it be appropriate to clean the barrels with a patch, at least?
RealMenRescueCats I was just about to post this same question. Hopefully we can get clarification
Nevermide what they say every firearm should be cleaned after use every use in my opinion it puts the firearm back in ready for extreme use condition if there ever is a call for that
Thank you! You just made my life so much easier.
what did he spray in the ube and on those parts? also dont' you have to lube the lower reciever?
Love it. Just got my DP-12. I call it Doom. This video is great.
I named the 2 barrels on mine "Dez" and "Troy"
Very informative video.
Thanks for posting it up.
so i dont need to clean after i receive?
Aw man, look at that mess of hardware! Nylock nuts, annoying machine screws that need allen wrenchs and worst of all, 1:39 tiny hitch-pins. Why couldn't you guys and gals at Standard MFG use the AR-15 or PTR style takedown pins that would make disassembly a breeze. Your asking for top dollar for this gun after all.
Thanks I have a DP12 and been taking it to the gun store & paying them to clean it. Wow it's almost like working on a very small car
I sent my DP12 in for cleaning, and when they returned it, the Aluminum Action bar was scuffed on the right side. I told Tracey the receptionist about the issue via email and Rich Wilson answered the email saying, " Sorry we didn't live up to your expectations!" Dude you ruined the cosmetics of my gun.
Which part is the aluminum action bar? It's almost impossible not to scratch up the sidewalls of the receiver when removing the sled.
My bolt retainer plate doesn't slide out like the video. There are two studs on the sides holding it in.
Great Vid Sir! What kind of lube/cleaner do you use?
Is there a video where you break down the whole gun? Trying to fing out why it has feeding issues and trying to install new heavy duty feeders
Great, great, great, info, very helpful. Thanks
Is the receiver mostly polymer ?
Please watch our construction video. It's machined for 7 hours out of a solid block of aircraft-grade aluminum. No polymer here. There's no gun like it!
@@StandardMfgLLC nice to know, I’ll definitely check it out
Only cleaning video I've found but this is a gunsmith breakdown do I not have to clean it or should I just wipe it down and swab the barrels I'm mean this is a great video but just not my level or is this what everyone else is doing?
Where can I buy those particular Allen wrenches and cleaning rods?
ads.midwayusa.com/product/100701584?pid=161126&Gunsmithing+-+Tools%2C+Jigs+%26+Fixtures&gclid=CjwKCAjw57b3BRBlEiwA1ImytngwnPtZlbSZqPccuKdebNMYyhM4HkBvpilwDNIExL70sUUFx9-dZhoCKOAQAvD_BwE This is it
who is the manufacture of those cleaning rods used in the video? anyone know? Must have!
thank you for this video, did i read this right only after 10.000 cycles i should clean the DP-12 ?
so i don't have to clean it every time i go to the range
+GIGAMSX1974 that's correct, you do not need to disassemble, and fully clean every single time you take it out. We just recommend wiping it down. That is they way we designed the gun.
So it should be taken to a gun smith to be cleaned.
They should make a kit that includes their cleaning kit and the hex keys needed in one bundle. Better yet, have the handles on the hex keys shaped like the DP 12...
does the gun has to be cleaned when it is picked up from factory? I have purchased some s&w guns that were lathered in grease. I was told to always clean new handguns before firing. same with the dp12?
Charlie Whelan you should always clean any new gun so yes clean it after you buy
HerrenGamingNews thank you for the reply.
awesome video... love mine.... thank you for being so in depth...
so I heard something rattling round so I disassembled my gun and a thin metal plate looks like it was sheared in half. I looked it up and it looks like part #31. I'm a little upset since I just purchased this gun today. Any advice on what I should do whether this is safe to operate without it? I've already sent an email requesting to be contacted. Now I'm having trouble putting the damn thing back together. there's a random nut and I don't know where it goes.
+herr3945 actually I discovered which part it was and the they shipped me a new part. no issues what soever. gun works fantastic 150 rounds of 00buck thus far. certainly more impressed with it than the kel tec. before I get any hate on that I bought one of those two. quality of the DP12 over the kel tec ksg is impeccable.
I like this gun a lot! But I prefer the KISS Military Principal. This thing is wicked, but the TS 12 is looking like the possible winner now. No tool Tear-down. Sounds good to me 😎
It's a less reliable weapon than the DP12 however.
Nice. Could you do a video on troubleshooting esp on the double feed it occasionally runs into? had some initial trouble unloading mine as it tended to double feed while attempting to unload
Wow makes it look easy...
One place I didn't expect to find epic music..
Remember this is for home defense u will never shoot 10.000rds go to gun range have fun still no shooting that many rods before u have clean it but learn how to clean it so can teach your grand son
great info and help, thanks
I wanted this gun so bad, but after seeing the cleaning headache, I settled for a Keltec KSG. Very easy to break down and clean with zero 🔧🔨🔧
thanks for the video! It helped a lot
The disney style music is offputting.
As unpleasant as this sounds I would love a third position on the selector for both barrels...
Narration would have made this easier to understand.
I would have any other bullpup. love mine
Was going to buy one but after watching this video what a bitch to service!
Not a fast field strip. I would never use C- or E-clips for retention purposes on a violent recoil weapon as a shotgun. IMHO
I wouldn't dare put a firearm back in the safe after shooting without cleaning it first I believe in having a gun ready to run 1000 rounds at a moment's notice without issue having said that I might have to strongly consider cleaning every 1000 rounds due to the cleaning process
Holy crap screw galore wtf
Mark Liu it's all screwed up
Yep looks like pain in the ass going to stick with the 590A1, I was thinking about buying this one but not anymore
stop lying to look cool. you were never going to buy one lol
Evaristo Rodriguez LOL, still thinking about it
however much it sucks to clean is easily offset by how much fun it is to shoot!
Evaristo Rodriguez true that.
Fuck yeah it is super fun to shoot. I get so much attention at gun ranges when i dump a full 14. Compared to a regular 300 dollar shotgun. This gun operates and shoots without fail. Pumps are the best. IMO
Lots of fun at the range but really just for range amusement at this point. Customer service from the company has been poor at best and this firearm has been a pain to maintain. I bought a Benelli M4 about four months after this purchase so I could have something truly dependable in the house. Fun, but a complicated toy at best.
Jesus!!!
I was about to get this shotgun, but then I stumbled upon this video.
This is completelly unacceptable!!
The first and foremost engineering task for any gun makers should be to make the takedown as simple as possible....this is the very opposite of simple.
Needless to say, I will not be buying this shotgun anymore for this reason.
Define 'cycle of use'. All 14 shells? 10,000 rounds? 20,000 rounds? 5,000 rounds? (Given the double-barrel nature, I could see the math going any of those directions.)
I interpreted it as cycles of the action.
lmfao at that music hahaha
I wanted to buy this shotgun but if I have to do all this…. I don’t know man .
Worst disassembly video ever. Steps went by too fast and some were close up shots of the gun from odd angles. The music itself is enough to make me want to take my dp 12 and use it on myself.
You know there is a wonderful button that pauses the video?
stop being annoying youtube
Right
awesome video Minus the music.. lol
Music is terrible!
This shotgun needs a redesign. Over complex and a disaster to disassemble and reassemble. I'm putting mine out to pasture,
Badly needs verbal instruction. Loose the awful music. Poor cleaning instructions. No Oil and Grease demonstration.
Thanks Guys
Welp, looks like ill be using gunscrubber spray instead lol
....no.
What a pain in the ass, good video though.
This video made me chuckle. Yes, it is informative. But the music is a little out-of-sort for this. The stone-face background of the titles, the font shaking as sparks fly across the screen... with happy British movie music playing over it. Not bad music, just not really fitting.
It not as bad as thought maybe for u dumb dumb out there I am still buying one
