- "Sharing personal and professional moments of where you've had success or people who have used your product or use your company have had a positive experience. When you share that, you impact people, you make it memorable and you make it personal."
Watch keynote speaker Matthew Luhn at the CIMC event hosted by Marwick Internet Marketing.
13:12 don’t sell products, sell an experience
14:12 memories, information that stick are wrapped around an emotional experience
15:25 stories increase your odds of communicating your information
16:00 stories must be carefully crafted towards a purpose
16:50 what makes a great story is the push and pull of emotions
17:50 the speed of the push and pull of emotions and how drastic it is correlated with the intensity of the experience
20:00 whoever’s telling the impactful story about themselves gets the audiences connection
20:22 we believe them and get influenced by them
21:46 an anecdote, a story, can change someone’s worldview
22:27 hooks are unusual, unexpected or have some sort of action or conflict brewing, you must hook in first 8 secs
23:47 you have to make a promise of something valuable and interesting to audience to cement the hook
23:47 the story conflict must be something potentially life saving or at that level of importance
23:55 people want to see a transformation happen
24:30 people wanna know that there’s an oh-shit factor to the conflict, that they’re gonna learn some primary important knowledge
25:22 change catches our attention
26:00 your story needs to speak to and connect with the experiences, struggles and emotional challenges of your audience
26:50 we connect with Ratatouille bc we can relate to someone who wants to do something but is told it’s impossible for him
28:10 know your audiences passions, struggles, weaknesses, lifestyles, interests, etc. You have to know then to connect with them and serve them.
28:45 creating a story with heart means it’s a lived experience or close to one
30:50 deliver your authentic message through your story, but don’t shove it down anyones throat
33:33 you’re selling a feeling, you’re selling a story. You need to make people feel something.
35:30 you know a story works, when you get teary-eyed and you get goose bumps
35:45 people aren’t gonna remember what you said or did, they’re gonna remember how you made them feel
THANKS
Thanks

This was amazing! Exactly thet type of video I was looking for. Perfect person to give this talk. Pixar has definitely mastered storytelling at its finest. They know how to tap into your emotions. That's what I love most about their films. The story and psychology are seamless.
Wow this was awesome. Thank you Matthew!!

Sell yourself? Marketing is one of the black arts. "He who learns black science should himself be black."
I really appreciate you telling us this. I am fixing to launch a brand name. And I know from selling on eBay story telling grabs attention. I sold many things on ebay when I created a story behind my sales. Now I am trying to do a simular thing with a story and animation characters. To push my designer name.
Thanks you gave me a lot more substance for my ideas.
Worth watching!
I'm surprised this has less than 1M views for a great content
thanks for the info ... i will never be a slave willingly
I hate when commercials make me teary!!!
Great speech
Incredible speech, only time ive taken lots of notes at a UA-cam video😅
That was really good
Great video 😊
Well entertaining in a few years
What I learn =
problem and solution > problem > solution
sad > happy > sad > happy
will give out chemical in body.
Conflict and action will give us attention.
people like transformation.
like hero on a journey.
create story with heart.
create something relatable.
(Need common base)
have a common base with the audiences.
(we need all emotion)
Don't be clever.
Be honest and vulnerabe.
Mission statement don't say to the clients.
but we want them to feel.
People not gonna remember what you say, not what you did.
but how you feel (mostly)
beggining middle and end.
Is because the world work like that.
Morning, Afternoon and Night
that why we like act 1 & 2 & 3.
so when share story :
have a problem = solution = Success
Beggining > Middle > End
I❤Pixar and the first one 😅
It’s not what you do, it’s how you make them feel!
And you are not only selling your products to customers in the store.
You are also selling your company to your employees, and future employees…
Just a personal note 📝😎
Also if anyone here remembers a bugs life? That movie from my childhood when I first watched it I remember watching it on repeat for few consecutive days ❤
I cannot find the mercedes benz commercial anywhere. Does someone have the link?
Ha.. happy to hear that my dad wasn’t the only one doing the movie / adventure day
17:00 Rollercoster of emotions that Is the key yo a story. 18:40. Anecdotes and hooks 21:00 unusual, create a conflict or unexpected 22:10 transformación 23:32
32:02 every story needs a set up build pay off
Begining: problem -> explain the problem that you set out to solve.
Middle: solution describe how you solved it
End: success get excited about the success you produced
❤️
More information I havent been out in years
33:46 a story makes you feel something, you are selling a feeling
💘
14:19 Cuando puedas relacionar tus datos o estadísticas alrededor decuna historia la gente lo va a recordar
It depends on the artist
I have a curiosity. Who among you here got a great value from this video like me?
great speach
Great presentation but so many slides went unseen
Did this guy gave the background voice for the rat in Ratatouille?
Honesty. Effect our chemical senses and effect emotions...
Interesting fact.
Steve jobs worked on toy story
And ratatouille!! It was the rat who sparked in me the love of cooking, and not my mom!! 😅
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I'm a designer. I would love to be able to feed it a picture of some object and tell it to find me something similar in shape, color, and characteristics that is available for purchase and for it to spit out a link. Even if I could just ask it to find something based on my needs, without a picture, that would be awesome. I hope that's coming. With this launch, I feel like it could be a possibility.
29:02 stories need to have a heart.. personal story..
learn storytelling from the PROS
Hey heard something awakening 13:00!
You know what else makes a great story? Brevity.
It took him 15 minutes to get to the point.
I will grant that it is a very good point.
But still...
W video
31:34 you dont want to tell your mission statement ever. You want the customer or invester to feel the mission statement
28:23 know your Audiance
dammm can somebody breakdown how the hell mercedes managed to do that 😂😂
30:41 dont be clever be vulnerable and honest
traducción
24:12 people want to go through someone elses transformation weather it be becoming richer, faster, perservering when they didnt thinks so
13:17 inicia lo mejor
What makes a good movie is a good story
After finish You only remember 5%
11 minutes in and we’ve got story… but we don’t have any telling yet much less business.
*Anakin right?
Excellent presentation. However, the comment about the IRS and its typeface can't be correct and how when businesses use it, it pisses readers off, can't be true. I checked, and the IRS uses one of the most common fonts available today, Arial. Granted, Aria is a boring font, but mainly because it is overused. I doubt very much that such a common fint as Arial pisses everyone off.
