Honestly the death traps in this game really shows how King Boo’s grudge with Mario became a hateful obsession with Luigi. I’m not sure if he’s trying to capture him or out right kill him as this point
You're right--either way, it has certainly turned into an obsession with tormenting & getting revenge on Luigi. I think King Boo would prefer to have Luigi framed, but has to be OK with him perishing in a trap as well

Nice to know this game keeps the creepy spirit of the original, even if you have to look a little harder.
For sure! I think the decision to set this game in a hotel really worked in its favor, and it felt closer to the atmosphere of the original in the sense that The Last Resort is one isolated, central building Luigi's exploring rather than having separate "mansions" (further fractured by missions) like in Dark Moon.
i just adore how king boo is shaded with such deep shadows in this game and his facial expressions are just fantastic, he's so menacing and i really want more luigi's mansion from next level because they did it so god damn good with 3

Yes! Very much so!
For as much as 3 is criticized nowadays for not being as dark or "scary" as the first game, one aspect I really enjoyed was the hostility of boss ghosts compared to the portrait ghosts. Besides Bogmire, the Clockwork Soldiers, Jarvis and Melody. The bulk of them were minding their own business and really didn't seem evil or malicious. Most of the ones that did eventually attack had to be heavily provoked to the point of annoyance, (Granny, Biff Atlas, Mr Luggs) were paying no mind to Luigi and going about their afterlives (Lydia, Neville, Ms. Petunia, Slim Bankshot) or flat out asked to be left alone (Sue Pea, Uncle Grimmy). You could argue all of them were holding important keys, but the fact that Egadd was basically imprisoning them in paintings, both before and afterwards really can make it seem like he's more of a necessary evil rather than a genuine ally.
In 3 all of the boss ghosts strike first. The mock, taunt and harass Luigi. Laughing at his misfortune and generally making his progrees harder than it should be. And for the Mario franchise, some of their attacks (mainly from Captain Fishhook, Ug, and Polterkitty) look downright brutal. Even with the lighthearted atmosphere, the enemies felt like actual enemies rather than (mostly) innocent bystanders.

Ok, but again, what is googi’s limit? If he can use his poltergust even though it’s made entirely of goo, how many other things can he mimic? And, maybe the poltergust on his back can release another gooigi, and we can have a gooigi army! Gooigi has been at 0.0000000001% of his power this entire time!
Out of all the colors they could go with, why does the Virtual Boy have the exact red-and-black palette that reminds kids of the bowels of Hell?
I remember since I was a kid i used to scared of king boo while playing the Dark moon on my Nintendo 3DS, and never get to sleep 😢
This game is amazing in Co-Op mode. It really makes the puzzles more fun to figure out, and you can share in the twists and turns.

I've played through the game twice now, but unfortunately not in co-op (it always did seem pretty great)! I have played the online multiplayer though, which was a blast. I'd love to do more of that, but you really need 4 players to make it fun so I wonder how the lobbies are nowadays. Happy Halloween to yourself!
Hi! I just wanted to say I love the Dark Aspects video series and this one was an absolute treat!! Luigi’s Mansion is my favorite video game series of all time. Luigi’s Mansion 3 was one of the first games I played without any walkthroughs so all the scares were so real to me. I’m so glad you brought up that little moment of Dinosaur facing a different direction after each flash of lightning because that actually made me jump so bad!! This is such a fun series & I can’t wait to see where it will go in the future. Thank you for this wonderful overview!
Luigi's Mansion felt like the Mario franchise's first venture into survival horror. The third game is the best in my opinion, but 2019 will always be a good year for gaming with KH3, DMC5, P5R, and FE3H following as a top 5 best. There's so much creativity in each floor to The Last Resort. The new Poltergust was teased in Smash Bros Ultimate, tbh.

The cat was really annoying I really didn't care for the backtracking this game had. I thought the facial expressions of King Boo were done really well. The pun to Hellen Gravely's name was a nice touch as well.
