Magnet Fishing Brings Notice to a Major Problem at Michigan State University

- In this video, we take you on a magnet fishing adventure at Michigan State University. We were able to pull out a total of 7 bikes and 11 scooters from the river! We immediately contacted the campus police to inquire about safe disposal of these items and if there was a program in place to give these bikes to students in need. It turns out that the bikes were actually on city property, not on Michigan State University's property, so the campus police called the East Lansing Police Department to come and assess the situation. It's important to note that the batteries from electric scooters are extremely bad for the environment, and it's disrespectful for people to throw them into the river. We hope that this video raises awareness about the negative impact of littering and encourages people to quit throwing items into our rivers!

▶️ Magnet fishing is a way of treasure hunting for metal in waterways. To do this you use a large magnet on the end of a climbing rope. You throw the magnet into the water way and slowly drag back your magnet. You never know what you will find! We have found antique license plates, GUNS, mortars, antiques, and lots more!!!

I'm sure there is a lot of things thrown off of the draw bridge in Cambridge MD.The bridge has been there for a long time. At least a hundred years.its the only one in the area so I believe that's a great place to go magnet fishing for a lot of things, it's in a little sketchy area. If I could check it out I would. Don't have a magnet though 🥰

I go to school at MSU this isn’t a new problem they pull hundreds of scooters out of the river every year
It’s crazy that they don’t send someone out right away to haul this stuff away. Leaving it just seems like asking someone to throw it back into the river 😢
Are those all electric 🛴 scooters from a rental service? After being underwater, can they be repaired and salvaged to run again?
They are! The companies come out and pick them up for parts. 🧲🤘
