Springtails !!does!! need to eat and won’t survive on just water But…. They will eat basically anything… wood, moss, molds , fungus , poop, dead animals and plants etc… From my experience they love protein rich foods like fish flakes and algae pallets(I use it to culture them) And even when there is absolutely nothing for them to eat (rarely happens because as I said they eat everything) They will survive for months and some species can even survive years without any food at all, only from recycling their own waste… Some can even go into form of dormancy to beat very harsh conditions
Did ready all the comments but how long did it take for the duck weed to start making its way up the missing and killing it and ruining the vibe? These are cool and I have made jars but usually only local stuff cause the one time I added trepardita it blocked everything out until it killed itself off. Duck weed does the same for moss in wood above water in an aquarium. These are cool but don’t seem worth the maintenance but would love to hear otherwise!
No that is way way to small for anything more than small small snails.if you are looking into getting fish use a pond or a fish tank no bowls or anything
I was going to make a terrarium tomorrow and I want to thank you for some inspiration😊. I just want to ask if their is a pond in the terrarium should I water less frequently?
@@petertulas-henderson3388 By water i meant like when vapor escapes little by little how often should i mist it. But i do get your point since there is a pond inside
Why? Duckweed does spread but with a bit of maintenance it won’t overgrow, it can also do wonders for the quality of the water and prevent algae growth
Look under a damp and moist pile of fallen leavers, or organic waste. You may have to dig the top layer of soil as well until you start seeing white or red springtails.
I'd love to see what it looks like after a week...
Can the spring tails survive on just water ? Also can you show us your projects like ina time laps like I wana see this again once it’s grown in more
The springtails will find their way to the substrate & moss:) & sure!

It can do but it’s easy to remove:)
10 years later: turning a ginormous glass dome into a pollinator paludarium!
😅
Pls make a isopod terrarium or a diving beetle ECOSYSTEM.
Then I will come up with a name for the one u pick.
Looks really great :)
Do you switch out the water when it goes bad? I guess the water would go bad because there is no movement..
Same
You should add micro organisms to the water
Why?
Not me rewinding it two times because I kept thinking you said pepperoni plant 😅
Hahah😂 that would be a cool plant😂
@@TerrariumDesigns 10/10 would buy 😂
It was not?
Are there any small insects or anything that could be added to that amount of water?
Love your videos! Haha
Do you have to do water changes like in an aquarium?

What's the difference between paludariums and terrariums? Just that paludariums have small ponds in them?
That’s correct, a paludarium is basically part-terrarium part-aquarium
Can you add small fish?
No that is way way to small for anything more than small small snails.if you are looking into getting fish use a pond or a fish tank no bowls or anything

If you dig up some damp soil in the garden or a nearby park there will be springtails in the soil.

You shouldn't need to water it ever

Love it! Do you do water changes? Or do the plants filter it ?
I will be doing water changes every week or so:)
@@TerrariumDesigns could you do a video on how you do that without destroying the entire thing?
