Sir., you have solved one of the most difficult problems I have had to face in doing my bases. This problem solved so simply and effectively, thank you Sir., thank you!!!!!........God Bless you and yours.....
Update. I can safely say this works a treat. 100% great results. My tank is sitting on a meadow looking grand. I am almost ready to launch some of my stuff but I didn’t in the video tell how I did it. I just added the link to your video. I believe in credit always when due. 😊I’m completely new so I might not get any views yet haha but you don’t need to worry if it does they’ll be checking this out to find out how.
I been wanting to do static grass, but have not had the money to invest. This looks like it works amazing! You have so many great money saving tips! Thanks alot!
Ho lee shit this is amazing, I was just about to go buy pieces to make a static grass applicator and this looks sooooo much more realistic because it looks wind blown, walked on, battles fought upon it, maybe some deer bedded down, and generally less uniform! Well done!
So funny! I bought this exact bottle a couple days ago and just started searching youtube to see if there was a way I could alter it to use it for my grass. It's awesome to know I can just use it as is and that the results will be great. Thanks for this video, man!
after having found this video, i bought a small bottle at a local hobby store for this purpose. will try it. one big advantage that i have is that the enviroment i intend to use it on is cut up in sections that link together later. will try on a test piece first and see how it works. because tricks like this one can be a big money saver
And thats why when my better half says throw it away, it somehow ends up on the hobby bench. I'm not into spending big bucks on gimmicks, id rather buy more kits. If it aint pretty and shiny but works, well there you go!
this came to me after hours of looking at static grassing thinking how cool it was but not wanting to spend $100, thank you man bc this will work better than me starting a fire trying to wire smt up
I saw that suggested on another static grass video except using your arm, not your head. Exactly what you're planning; lay the grass and use the balloon to make it stand up. Or fly off the base and onto the balloon.
What a great idea! I just bought a mosquito racket to modify into a static grass applicator but will use this technique for targeted overgrowth, thx man! Just to clarify, doing a bigger 1/12 scale base.
I built a cheap static grass applicator last year in my first attempt at static grass and shocked the living &^*% out of myself when using it (user error for sure), but I love this and will be giving it a go very soon!
Looks like it does a great job. Have you thought about instead of squeezing the bottle in and out a heap of times to leave the bottle upright like you have and just slightly or vigorously tap the bottle. That way it is moving the grass and may fall out naturally standing up. I have tryed this in sivving dirt before and it is wierd how the different motion make different particles react to different movements. Just a thought. Cheers from John in Australia
Gotta say, I've been pondering spending over a hundred dollars getting a fancy fangled applicator.... gonna try for the 2$ air bottle first, Good call! found video via 'grass applicator alternatives'
Sir. You are going far. Epic solve. I was looking at taking apart a torch cos big zapper isn’t good enough. And fit all sorts to it to make one for a fraction of the cost. I mean I get it but 130 bucks for some of them is a nope no gotta be a better way you found it. Cheez i got one of those with small heads different sizes so. This will solve that. And you are right it does look pretty natural nothing in nature is straight. So great job.
Thank you! Yeah they got me when I first got into models. It was like a hundred bucks even back then. It can get expensive quick and now more than ever.
@@SCM223 I know. Believe me I know I was born in 1984 and back then these were ridiculously more expensive for example we only really dealt it 1:144 1:72 would be top prices £35.99 for a model kit regardless of sprue quality. Now it’s priced to tell you. A £20 kit will cost £20 back then would have just been price banded on its size. Model ship building has stayed exactly the same luckily because with modern tech I’m building them cheaper and better simply modern parts are just better! But yeah I am doing a Kosovo Tank scene for a Chally 2 and the field it’s rolling on is gonna need a good layer. After looking at this tech. It is one of those that shouldn’t be needed. (Static grass applicators)
Oh nice maybe I should get into ship building then. The last armor kit I bought before I decided to tighten my budget was the Rye Field Jagdpanther. That thing was almost 90 friggin dollars! I like the concept for your dio, should be interesting. Kosovo wasn't really covered much here in the States. Just a few reports about air strikes is all I remember.
@@SCM223 it was my regiment’s deployment. The thin Green line Kosovo (millenium tour) if you wanted to hear bout it. And ships are still £300 up. But I got Chinese ones to practice on for 50 and less! So I’m getting all the learning curves out the way first before I get my dream kit. I wanna do the HMS Victory. I got a 1:150 practice which is pretty big. That was complete wooden kit without deadeyes and blocks but you get that yourself anyway. And then there is the rigging. However do not be put off. It’s not as complex as the real ones because scale you literally couldn’t rig it exactly as real. But for models there is the knowledge and you are already here.
The Victory is a beast! I got intimidated just thinking about doing the rigging, beautiful ship though. I bought an Occre tug boat kit a few years ago, did a parts check and haven't opened it since. I don't know if I have the patience for it man.
@@SCM223 Oh, I'm sorry, lol, everything you did was more than perfect. I just saw the title, and saw the bottle, and wondered if it was going to be about doing something to create a static charge, maybe rubbing the bottle on something. I'm just used to those bottles and other items made of plastic like that making the hair on my arm stand up, easily accumulating a static charge if wiped with a certain rag etc. But you proved there's no need. Your grass is better than the ones that actually use batteries.
@@OtterLakeFlutes Oh! No need to apologize, no offense taken. I was just curious. Yeah I actually haven't used my electric applicator since I tried this, which is a shame because that thing was expensive!
Im working on a model i printed off and wanted to try static grass for the first time but was almost put off by the aplicator cost as im not sure ill need to use it that offten thanks man
You're welcome! Yeah this hobby can get expensive in a hurry but I've found there are cheaper alternatives for just about everything. Thanks for watching and hope it works for you.
That is another great tip! I've been wanting to do a dio with static grass and dreaded the thought of buying the applicator for a possible one time us. Thanks for saving me $100!
I've never tried to be honest. I'd worry about the sawdust, it may come out too fast and clumpy. Twine shouldn't be a problem though, same principle as static grass.
So I bought a few one for each mm of grass. I found once it's laid you can kinda use a pick tool to comb it (spike it up) Some slight difficulty with the 12mm grass. Unless I shouldn't be shaking it

You're very welcome. Thank you, God bless you and yours as well.
OMG Finally, a method that anyone can do, without even needing to buy an electric fly swatter or something.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Brilliant, was just looking to buy an applicator, but now ill just buy a sauce bottle. Thanks!
This is one of the greatest tips I've ever seen! It's simple, effective, and cheap, and who the hell doesn't want that?

Who would have thought. That is a great idea. Thanks!
WOW :D thanks for sharing this! Small, easy to use, fits in tiny places, won't shock yourself lol, it's the perfect tool for the job!!!
I needed a static grass applicator to add moss to my clay sculptures, and this idea really helps
This is brilliant, get a bunch of bottles, and have one for each colour/length. Maybe a little funnel to put excess back into the bottles.
Wow thanks for that. I have been looking to buy one and have one sitting in my Amazon basket. Will definitely ditch that and try this tomorrow x
Glad it helps!
This looks surprisingly good. I have to try it. Thank you for this great idea

Nice work. I agree it looks more natural, too. Thanks for sharing.
Happy to. Hope it helps!
Dang that's dead easy! I generally just toss it on through a wire strainer and hope for the best but this will offer way more control.
Thank you for the video. I’m going to give it a shot after I get the bottle!
