Excellent video tutorial. I usually wash the door with warm soapy water which helps the new seal fit and make sure the thicker side of the seal faces outwards.
This has been on my to do list for ages. You've given me a bit of inspiration. Now just let me finish my coffee and I will 'think' about getting on with it.
Done! Great video. Giving the door a wash with soapy water to ensure you get rid of the old rubber was also helpful. The outer edge isn’t equal, so one side of it is off centre more, so that needs to be the outer edge. Will check all my doors and windows now! Likely more swaps required.
Absolutely amazing you're a lifesaver I seen this product but I don't know how to use it and now I know. You saved me a lot of time and money by this idea.,, thank you very much my friend
Just tried this on my bank door frame. Nightmare! The old seal kept disintegrating into tiny bits and refused to come out of the groove. Must have been in there too long, I guess. You made it look so easy and it was probably is - I just took so long over it. But job done and the back door has a brand new seal round the frame! Many thanks for your very helpful vlog! 😊
25m was £16.99 I think. Made a real difference. Stop those horrible cold spots that attract condensation and mold around the door. Really easy, give it a go! Best of luck with it.
Ha ha. A lot of it is render from when house was done, the intention is to replace the door and this was just a temporary measure. But I agree, it is buzzing! Thanks for watching.
Great video I have water coming in one of the corners of my door. Looks like the seal on the door frame is the problem but I would replace the seal on frame and door. Thanks to your video I now know what I need to get.
I've just done this on all my door and windows.. took ages 😂😂. Great vid though mate. My tip would be dont do it in the winter when the seals are rock hard. Or warm them up on a radiator first 😁
My door is leaking, especially after this week's rain. Will have to replace the seal as I noticed upon investigation it has perished. I take it the same will apply to the door frame seal... Thanks for the vid.
thanks very much for this, I've just replaced the seal on my son's house in Swansea. There is some play in the door though. When will you do a video on hinge adjustment please?
Purchased my first house last year and the back door, the rubber is pretty much disintegrated, just loose hanging strips😂. Looking forward to getting it sorted!
Had new exterior doors fitted last year so hopefully I won't need to do this procedure for a while, hopefully. Still, I found it very helpful and I imagine within my skill range. Thank you very much and when the time comes I hope I can remember your advice.
Thanks for the information. I had both my front and my back door replaced due to damages after an attempted break in and the "joiner" who fitted the doors had damaged the seals on top and underneath without saying a word and left after he was paid. I'm now stuck with 2 doors that don't keep the cold air out, but after this video I'm fairly confident about replacing the seals myself.
Hi I can’t seem to find your video on how to adjust the hinge if the door is too tight after seal change (I already replaced my seal yesterday but door is too tight now ). Thanks for the video
I am looking to change seal on a double French door. Seems this video will help but I have a question - there is a panel on one of the doors which blocks access to the seal. How do I get around that?
Good video. The only little thing is that you might want to run your finger around the old seal to find out where the original join was, and start from there. When I did it I was fairly sure I had enough seal but took the old out and replaced with new one side at a time. If I was short I could've left the last bit of old in.
Thanks, great advice. Would you be able to guide me on how to remove the old seal? from UPVC windows? It is sooo stuck due to age and dirt, that mere screw driver cannot remove it? Is there any special tool, or liquid, that can help with this please?
Before you tear it out just make sure the seal is one that can be removed as some are fixed to the door and can't be removed. If it can be removed then you could try using some white spirits on a cloth and a bit of elbow grease! Let me know how you get on. Best of luck.
Are you sure it's the correct size? You have to get the first bit to bite then the rest will be forced into place but it does need a bit of elbow grease. Best of luck.
Excellent, will look at doing mine, as when a heavy rain happens, it seeps in. Think its the actual door frame, so looks like the method is the same. One question, why start at the bottom? Should I not start at the top, as the rain using appears at the bottom, or is it just personal choice?
I have seen doors started at the top but I don't think it makes a difference either way as long as it's fitted well with no gap on the join. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for this, definitely a job I need to do. And wasn’t sure where to start. Looking forward to the next video on how to adjust the door as well. The fit is really not tight
Ray White.-Fitted the door seal ok with no problems.Fitted the frame seal and the door doesnt shut. The seal seems too thick to allow the door to shut --Help!. Does it need the frame seal as the water drains out along the lower section anyway?
I have a question. The other seal (the one between the glass and the window frame) can be replaced? And if so what is that called, if it has a special name. Thx
It depends on the type of door. Most doors are made with the bespoke plastic inserts to fit the glass into place. You could try a local window company and see if they could provide one? Window and door seals are sometime referred to as gaskets which may help with your search. Best of luck.
It was a lot trickier to really bed the bead into the groove I found. It kept coming out while I was trying to continue further along. But perseverance pays off.. The door is tighter than before. I also notice that there are two grooves in the frame, but only one had been fitted with the seal... I guess fitting a seal to the other one will improve the insulation.
Awesome vid. Really informative and I will be looking through your other vids for inspiration. I'm ready to order seal to guve it a go but on inspection of my door I've found that the seal is the 'flipper' version. Is it possible to change it to the 'D' or 'P' shape? Thank you.
Before people start ripping there door and windows seals out check if there what’s called Co extruded ,as most of the decent quality and newer profiles are pressed in on manufacturer and not designed to be removed , older door profile like the one in the video and cheap profiles like new builds use can often be removed
Great demonstration how to fit thanks and going to attempt mine tommorow, quick question though would you replace both seals as there is also one in the frame of the door?
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Decided to do both turned into a bit of a nightmare as they were factory bonded in the corners, but with a few minor alterations and a lot of patience job done not drafts and much quieter 👍
why is the join at the bottom of th door when I clean the road dust off the front door the water comes through the join. would it be better to have join at the top
You could put it at the top, no reason why not. I chose bottom as if it rains and water did drive in by seal I felt it'd be better to keep the continuous seal at the top. You could dab a bit of super glue or sealant on the join if it's a problem? Thanks for watching.
But how do I know what thickness of seal I need not the arrow bit,I had some fitted by council and he said it was the only size he had on the van but could be bigger ??????
No matter what I try I cannot get the old seal out. The sides lift up but the bit in the groove won't budge from anywhere! Have tried flat edge screwdriver, scraper, pliers but all I've done so far is tear the seal in multiple places :) any tips welcome!
Problem I have is when my door is fully opened there is only a very small gap between the top of the door and the ceiling. This means I can't see what I'm doing when at the top of the door. Can the door be easily removed from the frame so I can replace the seal then put the door back or would I be asking for trouble if I attempt to remove the door?
Hi Pouse! Great video. You mentioned another video giving guidance on adjusting the hinges to close the gap? Where might I find it please? Thanks in advance.
No minutes long intro, no waffling, straight to the point. If only all UA-cam tutorials were this good!
Excellent video tutorial. I usually wash the door with warm soapy water which helps the new seal fit and make sure the thicker side of the seal faces outwards.
What a champion 🥇 I have been searching for ages trying to find a vid to explain how to do this. Thank you 🙏
Glad to help.
Great video!
Excellent explanation, demonstration and a top job…
Thank you.
🙏 👍👏
Glad you found it useful.
Glad I found this video to know what to buy! Trying to join it at the bottom sounds like the most difficult place to me though
This has been on my to do list for ages. You've given me a bit of inspiration.
Now just let me finish my coffee and I will 'think' about getting on with it.
Worryingly that's the attitude I'm beginning to adopt! I'll have nothing to film. Maybe 'Pouse the barrista'. Best of luck with it.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE loved watching your uploads, keep it up fella.
Excellent you actually made this look easy and you have inspired me to have a go myself !!
Thank you so much. We've got a lot of gaskets to replace. I didn't realise 2 gaskets on the door are needed.
Thank you once again.

Hi thanks for the video, would I need the same seal on the frames or will that be a different type?
Thanks
I'm pretty sure it's the same, the seal is called universal door and window seal. Best of luck with it!
Would you use the same seal for the frame, please?
Yes you can as long as the frame has the same groove.
Is it the same procedure for the door frame it’s self ?
Hiya, do you use the same seal for the door frame as the door? Ty. 😊
You can yes if it's the same fitting. Mine was. Best of luck with it.

You start at the bottom so water drops there if it finds a way in and not at the top where it can drip around

my door doesn't seem to have a groove, the seal is just taped to the side. Is that just a type of door or the previous owners messed up with it? 🤨
