- Recently Mercedes-Benz offered Autobytel the opportunity to beat the pants off the new Sprinter Van at an event called Test the Best. Automotive Journalists could now subject the Sprinter Van and all its different variations to a handful of unique tests that included the slalom, braking, and fuel economy trials. The new 2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a utility vehicle that can be configured for a number of different uses including that of a: cargo van, crew van, passenger van, minibus, or even a motorhome.

The big news besides the range of usefulness is the fuel economy. The Sprinter Van is powered by a 3.0 liter turbo diesel V-6 engine that makes 188 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.

after a road trip of 8,000 miles from oregon to florida and back, I got an average of 18.3 mpg on the 2016 model, standard roof, 4x4. where possible I drove on cruise control at 75mph. you can get better than 20mpg but only if you drive under 60 mph. other than that it is a very nice vehicle.
Because of stiff springs and ESP it won't tip over easily, but yes it is nerve-wracking but somewhat fun to drive one in high winds, you have to constantly correct. I have been driving mine and felt the whole front end shift in very high winds, its sorta scary but sorta fun at the same time, you actually have to work to drive the vehicle but you know the vehicle won't let you down. I love mine, get 23MPG, its a 2003. They handle like a dream, very much like a small sedan.
While the Sprinters have great road manners and probably the best fuel economy in their class, they aren't designed to drive on gravel and snow covered roads. Plus never get one up in Montana, the Dakota's or Wyoming, as your nearest repair centers are far away.
I absolutely agree with Victor Yanukovich, Jr. Bought this van a year ago, use it for expediting so most of the miles are “ease miles” what means driving on the highway. And today took it to dealer 3rd time within 3 months with relatively the same problem, DEF system, yes f…ing DEF. First time paid $850, second time was cheap $250, so I was kind of “happy” with the bill and finally today a little over $2000, shitty American diesel ruined catalyst converter. MERCEDES, SHAME ON YOU.
Do not buy a MB Sprinter until you research the trouble they have with their DEF system.
What an amazing Mercedes. They were my fav manufacturer before i saw this woah
I rented a 2012 3.0 V6 145hp/245lbs. torque and drove it about 100 miles. That thing only got 15mpg. That was pretty good because I put my foot in it and did no less than 3 burnouts. (Don't tell Ryder) With 188hp/325lbs. of torque (last I heard) 24mpg, I don't think so. I love the van, It had enough power n 2012, went around curves with out feeling like it was flipping. I would buy one 1st.
I Managed 9,4 lieter/25mpg in a Peugeot Boxxer that i used for a move from munich to Marburg. I Drove a total of 1000 kilometres (620 Miles) on the German Autobahn with 140-160kmh wich are 87-100mph. How the fuc* did He Managed 11mpg 😅... I Had a 2.2 Diesel engine with 150hp * Most of the time i did 140kmh/87mph and top Speed was about 110-115 mph... A Bit Downhill ^^ people looked so hilaroius when they got overtaken by a big Van (was the Longest Version) with over 110 mph ^^. With that fuel consumption i'm glad that the Sprinter that i booked from Sixt was damaged and in Need to Take the Peugeot Boxer instead ^^
The Lexani Sprinter is just sick. Screw a Bentley or a Rolls Royce because no matter what they have, they can never have a bathroom.
all you have to do is to reset the air fuel mixture and set your fuel trips doing the specific driving mode
DAMN! Lol!!! this thing is sick, i would make it into a party van in the back! lol!
I own a 2012 144 passenger van low roof the ride comfort is terrible you feel every bump on the road and rough roads are a nightmare the only good about it is that it's stable through high winds. Mpg I average 18-19mpg at 75 mph.... should if just bought another savana better ride and not cheaply built
Hmm... they just took a bunch of them up into the Arctic Circle though. I'm sure some tire changes could help with something like that.
Gravel wreaks havoc on their stability sensors in the wheel wells and they have such an oddball size of tires. That means their tires are incredibly expensive and they have to come special order.
One last thing I did not like. @ full throttle, the shift to 2nd. was weak. It felt like the computer cut all the power, shift to 2nd, locked up the torque converter and then return all the power. It was smooth but not very manly.
How much is the Lexani
Maybe because the Transit isn't available in the US yet, why show off a product not available?
also the engine is pretty low down as is the fuel tank.
24mph on highway? LOL. With wind in the back and 50mph. (with no cargo)
Plus with all the cars passing him it looked like he was going 24 MPH. LOL BTW you meant MPG I'm sure.
Benz? shut up and take my money
This may look impressive but after a few months of use, You will yourself as a regular customer in MB garage. This engine isn't designed for shit-quality American diesel with all these Bio-additives which kill "fashionable" sensors designed to reduce pollution from your exhaust. You will spend at least half of your profit for service, you will get used to Check Engine sign is always RED....
If you think I'm biased visit independent MB garage and ask a mechanic.
Do not buy it for use in USA.
Why compare it with an e-350? The E-Series vans ride horribly. I drive an Express 2500 with my 40" 14 drawer tool box full of tools, air compressor, and all my parts inventory. Weighs in @ 7200 lbs and with the 4.8 I manage to average 14 mpg, would do better if the 6L90E was geared better 1st through 5th, and it rides and handles insanely better than an E-350.
Costo
Thats because its empty mate if it had a load its center of gravity would lower buy a few cm.
0:20 haha, lonely boy :)
4:52 Kenny G ?
I wanted a sprinter soooooo bad, so bought one a 2004 dodge with low km, and it was the worst vehicle ive ever had nothing but headaches. if you want $14000 in repairs in one year buy one of these
Robby Suter engine is completely different and entirely different van
Mercedes should have brought along the all-new Transit to compare - not an E-Series. Transit kicks Sprinter in its ugly rear.
if ford paid you more would you say ford is better LOL
So biased....
This is my favorite work van. ford transits are too small/not powerful enough and the new Ram workvan looks like a pile of shit.
