As part of the experience, those looking to buy a new 2013 Mercedes Benz Sprinter whether they be in bulk or by personal delivery, are invited to test the fuel economy, low speed maneuvering and tremendous stopping power back to back with the competition. As well as the all new diesel powered multipurpose machine's tremendous Electronic Stability Protection in a demonstration worthy of a television commercial shoot.
Aside from the bright yellow outriggers, this one of a kind 2013 Mercedes Benz Sprinter has 1500 pounds of liquid water suspended atop a 500 pound steel cage to make it much more top heavy than any intelligent delivery person might do. To top things off Mercedes has allowed the ESP Electronic Stability Protection to be disabled (for professional use only) and a pair of black Recaros and red racing harnesses allow for a total of three passengers to ride along this safety demonstration first hand.
The ESP is disabled and an emergency maneuver is executed at 20 MPH. Then the speed is raised by only ten clicks on the speedo to 30 MPH where effect of speed is exponential and the Sprinter goes up on two wheels. The ESP is then enabled as the Sprinter goes up the same obstacle this time at 40 MPH. The change is not only phenomenal, but with as many of these commercial vehicles on the road in the coming years, it might just save your life.

These Sprinters are amazing and they have a special stability control program for high winds I believe. Wonder how many folks have died in those church vans with the long overhanging cargo area at the back. I once was on a tornado study project and was part of the support crew and got to drive one in big winds and rain, very very scary and I could literally turn the wheel a 1/4 of a turn and nothing really happened - huge amount of play. Happy to say that the company in question now has a sprinter.

Let me start by saying that I’ve driven everything from tractor trailers to sport bikes. Last month I drove one of these extended high top Sprinters 7800 miles while on tour with a band. Below 70mph the van is a pleasure. Above 70mph with even the most remote/common breeze it was a NIGHTMARE. How Mercedes Benz ever got approval to build and import these to the general public I will never know. Again, great vehicle for around town delivery’s or low speed commutes. The largest of the Sprinter versions should require a commercial license because the lack of proper training, licensing and warnings places it easily in the top 5 most dangerous production vehicles. Still shaking my head having a safety complaint about a Benz lol.

My dad has a low roof transit and it is very comfortable to about 72 anything above that it was squirrely if you go fast enough it smoothes back out again at around 85 mph

Talk to me about a SAFE vehicule! I am a paramedic, and we still drive Ford Econoline here in Quebec who are really dangerous on road. The Ford have NOTHING of these safety except EBS brake. Wish we have this vehicule very soon!

Not to bash on the brand.. because i like large vans like the sprinter and the MAN TGE.. but i spotted those water tanks in the back and high up.. a lot of people would know if you put weight high up in a van the van would tip over more easy.. what about if they put a small slap of concreed in the back that would meet up with the maximum load capacity and see how the van would react to the test when the weight is down low...

This vehicle was designed for cargo delivery, not speeding or to be driven like a sports car.
You cannot just slam a vehicle based on such tests.
We might as well subject a Caterpillar front loader to such tests and consider it unsafe and unfit.

'only 180hp'... haha.. Here with all the eco terrorists we got a 90hp 110hp, 130hp, 160hp (4cilinders) Spinters and 180hp and 190hp V6 diesel..
There are also very rare *324 V6 petrol versions with 240hp.

Your giving GM way too much credit.. They don't have the brains enough to figure that out. GM's (Chevy) newest van, is being built by Nissan. It's called Chevy City Express. Too bad they don't have the balls to make their own vehicles.. I'd love the new Transit with the Ecoboost, that looks sweet, and without the premium price of Diesel.
Good ESP but really shows that these Euro vans while efficient and fuel saving are really unsafe if it wasn't for electronic aides. No vehicle that doesn't require a special license should tip over in an aggressive maneuver at 30 mph.
yeah? name any other van or vehicle with the same mass and dimensions that wouldn't do the same if not worse with no ESP 👍
For this test they filled it up with weight which makes it more likely to tip over.
