Thanks bro. My ex military map training has taught me that when those contour lines are close together (hence the dark spots) on the map, the elevation changes drastically. What you've pointed out makes perfect sense! Gonna try it at my favorite lake in Fayetteville Ga! My buddy wants to fish Sinclair soon too. Lol

You were words are spot on! Been finding/ fishing those winter drops for years in Ohio and Kentucky only in the last year was someone kind enough to share this web app with us so we could scout a lake at home without purchasing an expensive lake map. Great advice for all. Damn glad most outdoorsman will never use it because they are in the woods

That's good info... I'm in middle Tennessee on the Tennessee River... I don't have luxury of docks....so I'm dealing with river channel, and I'm new to this area.... It's all unknown waters.. this blob method is probably my best chance at finding Crappie.

    • @GACrappieFishing

I recently have gotten hooked on fishing for crappie since I ate some fried crappie, and crappie tacos...that's right crappie tacos are so good I went and bought all the ingredients in the recipe b4 I got me a fishing rod(a suggested one by the good folk that invited me family to their annual crappie feast. everything was made with crappie in it and everything was so good my tongue was slapping the roof of me mouth! later on I got to craving me some of that crappie... I got so many jig colors, all size and color jig heads and those crappie magnets and even the smaller trout magnets(advice from fella who had 26 10"- 15" crappie in 5 gallon bucket that was full!! I got exactly what he had...went and stood at the same spot he was in the very same day, next morning, that evening, throughout me weekend... I caught 3 very small crappie and then some guys out in boat were tearing them up just maybe 40' from bank where I was. I guess now that they were using them slip bobbers and fishing deeper than I realized... makes sense to me now lol. I bet there a big drop off right there "fade to black" with quickness!!
I'm picking up tips here and there....I ain't giving up on them crappie! I will find them and I will catch them and me family will eat them!

On the map these areas look small but when you are on the water it's difficult to pin point exactly where you saw it on Navionics. The question is "Are you using Side Imaging as you hover over spots to decide where to fish or what is making you say I see an area with a Black Blob we are fishing right here"? Thanks...

I know that when the weather gets cold, crappie tend to migrate to deep water. Knowing this, I also know that they love structure. Put the two together, and you find fall/winter crappie in deep water on drop offs.
