    I'm saddened, because lot of folks on social media are dismissing this song as a sincere generic girlcrush song, when the imagery and lyrics are chock full of negative imagery. Everything in the video is fake, manipulated, selfish. All the messages from "archenemy" basically recruiting people into a cult. Handong's legs bruised up, Jiu in a display box like a product, the members constantly on their phones, Dami talking about drunk driving. It's no more a straight girl crush song than Because was a sweet love song.

    • @Re3Alex

      Thank you!! I see so many people bashing it as a generic girl crush song, that it’s just a flex song for them and I instantly disagreed the first time I saw it. I absolutely agree about all the negative imagery and some of the lyrics in particular stand out to me “shall we start this game” and “ready action” in particular. I think this song is like you said, it’s about narcissism and things being edited and fake, basically calling out the industry. I hope more people come to realize the actual meaning of the song, it really does drive me crazy that people are only looking at it so shallowly.

      Because people have forgotten how to think, they only want to consume content. And it's sad. Yes, not like the music is fine, but to say that the song is meaningless and this comeback is "garbage" (I have seen such opinions too) it's very rude.

    i think you were onto something when you said this was a shot at the industry. it's also a satire of the kpop scene - the confidence has turned into narcissism. everything is too much but we cannot look away. what we see is all scripted and staged.

    This comeback story line will be something around parallel worlds and will be a two parter. The meaning behind this song has to do with when self confidence becomes narcissism. That's mostly all I know so far but Im sure they'll talk about the meaning in the future during promotions.

  • @BloodyGir7
    @BloodyGir7 6 місяців тому +59

    I think this comeback is about how everything for idols, fame or social media is edited to look super glam and perfect and fashionable and rich etc etc, and how obssesing over it can lead to destruction and corruption, and people have already explained about the archenemy account on twt so I won't do it again but that explains a lot about the story on the mv I think what they did this comeback is super cool, they never dissapoint :D

    As some said, the song is about toxic confidence and narcissicismm, what I found funny is that they show how they are chasing the Crown 👑 to be the Queen but at the same time when they get closer, the big picture of the crown is on the garbage truck.

    So happy to see you guys enjoying your Dreamcatcher journey! VillainS and OOTD are something they've never done before, but in typical Dreamcatcher fashion (ha!) they've made it their own. A huge part of the music video is the ymenehcra character who is actually a character on twitter sharing their story. We followed them for the last month experiencing strange instances related to a crown (the album logo) and chasing it down, plus a mysterious design company (the beginning of the video) where the crown led them. We don't know all the answers yet because this is a two part series, but it seems right now that Dreamcatcher are the villains wrapped up in this glitzy and glamorous lifestyle. Is the crown real or not? That remains to be seen! But you're definitely right to think it's a satire/exaggeration of the industry and how fake and edited everything we see is. Dreamcatcher are always so creative with how they tell their stories! OOTD is an awesome song, can't wait to see you guys react to the album!

  • @Betonwolke
    @Betonwolke 6 місяців тому +29

    Thank you for your reaction. I like this album a lot. Unfortunately, due to the video, “OOTD” was partly misunderstood and Dreamcatcher was accused of selfishness and narcissism. The opposite is the case - that is exactly what is made into the theme of the song. The concept of the album is called: “Villian”. Unmistakable. It's about the tendency of more and more idiots to present themselves on the Internet - without knowledge and shame. “More appearance than reality” is the motto. And DC denounces it.

    • @NewChapterReactions
      @NewChapterReactions  6 місяців тому +10

      Wow, we cannot imagine them being accused of narcissism. If you know anything about them, and our knowledge is still very little, you can easily see they work to bring light to very deep, serious topics that need to be discussed. While we may still have missed many of the layers in the video in just 2 watches, we still were able to determine there’s a heavier message to be heard. They, once again, are just absolutely incredible

  • @Moon_Wolfie
    @Moon_Wolfie 3 місяці тому +2

    This is basically what others have said- toxic narcissism from over coincidence in the form of “girl crush” because girl crush is also popular. It’s how nothing on social media is what it seems- alot of photoshop and fake for clicks and to look perfect. Things people will do to get a bit of fame/recognition, popularity aka Crown and then keep it- product placement/endorsement, fast cars and motorcycles, selfies, tik-toks/instagram, making front page with drunk driving and being crazy. It’s a satire on the current obsession with social media and the KPop industry experiencing perfect and how groups need to keep popular. A lot of the lore of this MV took place via Twitter with Ymenehcra and a few others. So if insomnia or other KPop waters didn’t pay attention for one reason or another then they wouldn’t get the deeper meaning behind the lyrics.
    Though, JiU is a freaking goddess and they are all gorgeous. My background is Siyeon and the Mustang.

      When I was in school in ancient times the chide was always, "Boys go to Mars; To get more choc'late bars; Girls go to Jupiter; And just get stupider." I have no idea why. With Venus and genius it's new to me, but that's an awfully good comeback!
      Nephthys is Isis' sister. Isis is Osiris' sister wife, and Nephthys is Seth's. Seth kills Osiris who makes him impotent, and Nephthys is the mother of Anubis with Osiris but keeps it secret from Seth who raises him as his own son, or something like that.
      What does Nephthys have to do with Venus? Venus is the Roman cognate of the greek goddess Aphrodite whose Egyptian cognate is Isis, Astarte in the Bible. The goddess of the morning star which is Venus or Jupiter if Venus is not there as it is next brightest. Nephthys is the Greek name for the Egyptian goddess of the night sky (Ootd can also mean Out of the darkness I read, among other things). Among suggested cognates are the Greek god Hypnos/the Roman god Somnus. It might be a jibe at narcissism in Dreamcatcher and also InSomnia, I'd speculate. They seem to take a jibe at everything in this video after hearing your interpretation I'm seeing so many references. The crown of Itzy, the baseball cap of Everglow's E:U, and Sua posing ridiculously lewdly on the bike (not complaining!) seems like "Voltage" or "Pirate" say, but maybe these are just things generally in the culture . . .
      Also does Nephthys sound a bit like Navis from, what are they called, Aespa? All those "Black Mamba" motifs in the background of Dreamcatcher's stage too. Or that could just be me again . . .

    DC always have a message! Haha don't be fooled by the on the surface vapid lyrics, ootd is all about narcissism and fake-ness. It's a two parter so hopefully the follow up song is just as heavy hitting. The song is still a banger and our girls look amazing. The b sides are wild as well this time. I hope you are still enjoying the journey and have fun catching up with their old and new content.

  • @spiralwarrior6569

    At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, clearly fast fashion.
    The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is actually the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up.
    The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback.
    It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song.
    The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

    I really wish the producers had made it a little more obvious that this is meant to basically be the K-pop equivalent of the Disney villain song, specifically aimed at social media narcissists and all the tropes that go with them. I missed the message initially, but once people explained it to me, everything made sense and I realized how clever the song and MV are.

    I see a lot of people interpreting their MV/title track as promoting self-love but a few of us think it's them exposing social media influencers, and how most of their content is just fake for many of them, and how so many people gobble it up as real life, follow those influencers, and want to have that for themselves. DeuKae always has a theme to their title tracks, usually one that has to do with social issues, so it kind of surprises me that more people don't see this interpretation.

    The girl in the editor booth is Shasha (according to the video DC released on YT a few hours before the release of this video). She is the one who follows the digital clues of ymenehcra and whose bike helmet we watch from inside as she follows the crown and finds our girls (the VILLAINS) and gets trapped. So at the end of the video the booth is empty and the Dreamchat site baits the next victim.

    I would also like to add some lore on the mv and more context if you don't mind reading more. :)
    Before every comeback, Dreamcatcher always release a "mystery code" - a picture with hints about the future comeback. For this CB, the mystery code consisted of a whole ARG with an X account (ymenehcra99, who also appears in the MV in 0:48 and 2:35), documenting the descent into madness of the user, who was obsessed with "the crown". The person running the account mentioned doing things like spending lots of money on luxurious clothes, chasing a truck with the crown symbol and almost getting into an accident as a result, and they even posted an audio of what sounded like an alarm, as if they had stolen something; all that in order to be "worthy of the crown".
    This MV might seem flashy and superficial, but it's supposed to be satire about how things like the idol industry (and social media too) are not as glamourous as they seem at first, since a lot of what is posted is actually fake.
    It's also criticizing how some people are willing to do anything to be famous and get attention: buying nice clothes and faking a luxurious lifestyle (hence the OOTD lyrics being so narcissistic and so "generic" - they're playing as the "villains" who let fame and power get to their heads/won't stop at nothing to get attention - and Sua and Siyeon posing in front of cars and motorbikes around 0:27 and 0:40), at 0:55 you can see Handong looking gorgeous, but on her legs she has a bunch of bruises showing, but due to the quick screen change its hard to catch it makes you not noticed the harsh dark side of the reality, staging fake drama (like Handong and Yoohyeon faking a fight in front of the camera in 1:32, only for Handong to help Yoohyeon immediately afterwards), or even editing their reality to make it look more interesting or appealing (see for example the very obvious green screen behind the girls during the dance scenes in 2:55, or the multiple photo/video editing references, like in the very beginning of the video).

    Your first comeback yay! I took it as a shot at how people online show off a glamorous, reckless "drunk on the highway" lifestyle that's out of reach for most of us, but how it's all fabricated. Everything in the mv like the Yoohyeon-Handong fight is heavily staged, edited, rendered in etc. My theory: The crown itself is a corrupting power that draws in our POV character with promises of that glam lifestyle but is ultimately all just fake, perhaps? We'll find out in the second part of this story. Dreamcatcher are the villain or are symbolic of this unattainable life and the narcissistic attitude that comes with it. Are they the crown or are they also being controlled by the crown?
    People on social media are taking it at face value but, well, the concept is not for everybody and that's fine. I applaud DC for doing something so different and nailing it. The marketing stuff like the month-long ARG following archenemy was all genius. The album itself is also awesome.

    On the surface it certainly seems about selflove but as can be seen in the comments, there are some hints (and in the showcase some things have been said hinting) to a satire of the industry and especially a self love that could also be seen as narcism. Its a really cool and new concept but could all of course also be looking too deep into it (Dreamcatcher however often tackles big concepts so I don't see why it should be).

    On top of what has been commented about the fakeness of the industry. Would like to add that, w/ the lyrics and how the visuals narrate the story, is more like:
    Reality is one thing, but people be weaponizing absolutely everything idols do: what they wear, their looks, their nicknames, the excessive usage of photoshop and now is even scarier because of AI being a tool open to the public. Now general public are seriously taken over idols' lifes, hyper glamorising it w/o being realistic, creating their own narratives to steer drama outta nowhere, cyberbully idols saying "it's a joke".
    JiU - being the visual of the group, is reduced to a doll who's on display for public's consumption. Turning her into a product because her looks fit society's beauty standards.
    Dong-Dong & Yoohyeon - they're ACTING a scene for work, and people turn it into "they fighting for real 😰"
    HanDong - portrayed as a rich superficial gal surrounded and wearing bling bling, because her endearing nickname "Ice Princess", has been turned into an insult as form of punishing her because they've exaggerated her likes and turned a Deukae's inside joke, into a flaw of her.
    Gahyeon & SuA - let obsessed hat3rs know no matter how hard they try to change them to push a fake image of Dreamcatcher, they'll continue to be way much more than that. They're outta hat3r's reach 😈
    Yoohyeon - she's being heavily edited/photoshoped to fit people's preferences, to make public believe she's in ___ place, that shes doing ___ things, that she looks ___. Eventhough we fans who do care to check facts, know that's not true. Similar to what SuaHyeon tell.
    Siyeon - acknowledges facts about who Dreamcatcher is as women idols, knowing it'll bother mysoginist/sexist people. They rather scared ignorant women who attack and degrade themselves (call themselves f4t, ugly, average, not enough, etc etc), and praise that self-hat3 behaviour under the "humble and sweet" facade. Make a strong person believe they ain't worthy and praise them when they say it out loud. And shame those women who won't fall for that gaslighting and passive aggressive speech. They're successful, they're attractive, they're amazing. Why you so threatened because women are acknowledging their hard work and beauty? Don't you glorify men's songs when they say the same about themselves? What's the problem when women do the same?
    So yeah, that's my take. Hope y'all love it too ♥️♥️♥️♥️

      Oooo and all the tattoos and body modifications and piercings it's like hey we're the bad guys in the industry ... the villains only because it doesn't fit the standard 🤯

    • @maquin5588

      Thaaaanks, that's another thing worthy of mention too. Tattoos in women's bodies and confident women are such a punishable taboo in their industry. But when a man does it, is "daring, fresh, a soldier against societal demands, king. What a turn ON". Everything about OOTD is a big slap on the face to the misogynist industry where kids are dressed up as adults w/ tiny clothes and uncalled-for s3xual dances, and adult women dressed up as children w/ tiny clothes and still dancing s3xually uncalled-for.
      Deukae be bringing facts to the table and making guilty people feel dirty for their behaviour 🤩 Love it!!

    DREAMCATCHER OOTD meaning:
    The song "OOTD" by Dreamcatcher appears to be about self-confidence and embracing one's personal style and individuality. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day," which is a term commonly used on social media platforms to showcase one's fashion choices.
    In the song, the members of Dreamcatcher express their confidence and uniqueness through their fashion choices. They assert that their fashion is their own, stating "OOTD, this my fashion, shut up, no more questions." They emphasize their ability to stand out and leave a lasting impression, comparing themselves to a time-lapse that will be remembered.
    The lyrics also touch upon their success and rise in the industry. They describe themselves as unforgettable and incredible, vying for attention and revolutionizing the scene. Despite facing challenges, they remain determined and focused on their goals, suggesting that they are on a different level than others.
    The chorus mentions materialistic elements such as champagne, necklaces, black dresses, and a luxury watch (rollie), implying a celebration of their achievements and a sense of luxury. It can be interpreted as a symbol of their status and success.
    The bridge and outro further emphasize their confidence and self-worth. They describe themselves as flawless, gorgeous, spotless, and priceless. This repetition highlights their belief in their own beauty and value.
    Overall, "OOTD" by Dreamcatcher celebrates personal style, confidence, and self-expression while also asserting their success and determination in the music industry. It encourages listeners to be proud of their uniqueness and to embrace their individual fashion choices.
