Let me start off by saying I'm super excited to see top tier Tetris players play the 20G competitive environment. Very few even choose to play it, and even fewer can play it with style and/or efficacy. I personally enjoy 20G tetrises -although I'm not good at it- , and videos like this makes me happy, and a lot. Now, onto my point. Looking at Wumbo/Doremy playing and seemingly "struggling" in Invictus top 10 moments seems to me like a clue to the general shortcoming of modern Tetris experts. Tetris on 20G very subtly but drastically changes the playing environment, and since modern Tetris leans more on the competitive side than the self-improving side, high speed can, and apparently does badly screw things up for professionals since a lot of their instincts does not work properly in 20G. This wasn't a problem in the initial version of Tetris 99 since the speed was capped at somewhere around Lv13~14, where the pieces are dropping fast but still maneuverable with a surprisingly lenient degree, but 20G is brutal. Improperly managing the stack in an attempt to create elaborate T-spin setups can potentially terribly backfire, especially in garbage line crossfires. The baseline Tetris skills definitely helped, but maybe a change in playstyle can be used to play both safely and effectively in the long run. Although this pretty much means relearning the game to a certain extent, and if the players don't enjoy it, I wouldn't mind that much. This is neither to trash talk to the players, nor to the trend of competitive Tetris. At least to what I see, this may introduce a completely new playing field where a new set of top-tier players can dominate, or the current top-tiers can continue their domination by another set of improvements. If it goes either way, it would be a wild future for competitive Tetris.
Have you played jstris ? How it is compared to terris 99 ? Because I usually play on jstris and I think its very competitive, compared to terris99, but as I havent played tetris99 im absolutely not sure of what Im talking about.
@@Benmf So... Jstris is good for improving your skill overall, through cheese races and whatnot but the issue is you're playing with a keyboard. It might be tough getting used to joycons at first. 99 can have games where you start and immiedietly are being piled with trash. It adds an interesting element with targeting, and when you start failing people will target you (if they have k/o selected). In turn the damage sent is based on the people. I found the mechanics of 99 to be worth reading up on. It's definitely a good travel game. I also reccomend puyo puyo tetris. This is good for establishing a solid ranking, even a number in your state. You can play on pc too so it's not like you gotta buy a $300 tetris machine. I'm 170 in my state (not super high ranking just a handful of games) but you get matched with all types. Technically I believe you could be matched with doremy if he was playing on the same version lol. So in summary Jstris is good for practice, 99 is good for putting your skills to the test, and puyo puyo is good for 1 on 1s or quick matches. 99 (with the new update) feels a tiny bit tougher.

with 0 Badges and only 1 attacker you will send 1 line of garbage with a double 2 lines with a triple 4 lines with a tetris and i think 4 lines for a t spin double. If you have more than 1 attacker sending a single will send a line a garbage to anyone targeting you, each person gets one line in this example but you are sending a total of 2 lines worth of garbage. (this comes into play if you get multiple people to target you and you have a high garbage bar you can combo out with just a few singles) if the yellow bar on the left flashes red the next piece you place will raise your screen with the garbage left in the bar. as you get badges the percent of lines you send with each line clear. so 25% is normally only going to be like a +1 for a double example. so double = 1 + 25% (1~)= 2 lines sent. same logic applies at 50% 75% and 100% so in the "late game" (last 10 people or so) if you have 100% badges any tetris you send is worth 8 lines compared to the normal 4 of someone with 0% badges As a rule of Thumb if i only have 1 target aim for t-spins and Tetris with more than 1 attack look to combo as many singles and doubles while still maintaining a large stack (if you completely break your stack then you will most people will switch off to a better target that is closer to death) the reason you dont send Tetris while you have multiple attackers is because of how the math works out you will send out less lines than if you were to send 4 lines as singles in a combo. Single-0 Double-1 Triple-2 Tetris-4 Tspin single-2 Tspin double-4 Tspin trip-6 back to back bonus (+1) (works for tspins and tetris) All clear-4 Combo 0 + 0 lines Combo 1 + 1 Combo 2 + 1 Combo 3 + 2 Combo 4 + 2 Combo 5 + 3 Combo 6 + 3 Combo 7 + 4 Combo 8 + 4 Combo 9 + 4 Combo 10+ +5 Multiple attackers 2 +1 line sent 3 +3 4 +5 5 +7 6+ +9 to with 6 attackers a tspin trip would be worth 15 lines. hope this helps
What is the theme you play with the most? Or do you just mix it up every now and again? I personally think that swapping around all the time is a hassle but i like too many of the themes, specially the fire emblem and zelda themes

don't really think there'd be too much of a change as the existence of the lock delay makes non-perfect initial placement pretty forgiving
