- Halo: Custom Edition turns 20 years old today on May 5th, 2024. This is without a doubt the most important and influential video game of my entire life. With its foundations set on Halo Mods, it changed the way I see Halo as a series. I wouldn't be on UA-cam without it. Thank you Bungie, Gearbox, and the Halo Custom Edition community for letting me be a part of this great journey.

Halo CE is what made me switch over to PC. So many good memories from joining my first clan to getting kicked from a server for "hacking" to all the great friends I made. I miss this era of PC gaming.
Favorite maps have to be CMT Snow Grove, and the Halo 2 sanctuary remake and the Halo 3 Foundry map. With all the custom assets and everything.
Also can't forget the free Halo demo.

1:15 Oh man. The Bay of Pigs, my earliest original Halo map, and far from the best. I like to think I came a long way since then, especially with some of the current projects I worked on for MCC. Still, such nostalgia looking back. Thank you. 💜

Yeah, the video is very accurate to the era back then! Except for you having to lead your shots AKA predict and shoot at air wherever enemies WOULD BE in half a second or according to your ping 😂
Thankfully we have no_lead as a SAPP command.

Anyone remember CE3? When a bunch of modders for Halo CE would come together to make a machinima to show off various mods?

I remember being in the community when most of these came out and even a lot of the people behind these. It's been so long that it feels like an entire lifetime ago. Lots of people that I know have passed away, too. Feels good and hurts at the same time. Thank you for doing this, man.
Honestly man I think this is such a touching tribute to old school Halo and old school Halo mods. The windows movie maker style edit with the unregistered hypercam is just the icing on top 😂
If there was one thing that stands out to me about Halo: Custom Edition it was the freedom. That feeling of freedom is something I have never let go of.

Custom edition was a serious core highschool memory for me. I couldn't afford an xbox at the time, but I absolutely loved playing halo at my friends houses, so I found out about custom edition, and started playing. I didn't come around till about 2012 but the community still seemed to be pretty strong even then. Halo: Reach and Metroid: Prime map recreations, and yoyorast island come to mind. Soo much fun on those maps man. Actually, I just found that there's quite a few old custom edition maps on steam.
A lot of feelings here. Hail 117 Anthem remains nostalgic as always, too. Love when you put these out, Vadam, they tug my heart strings.
MCC modders will never understand what Halo Custom Edition and its mods were, so much entertainment and happiness, Let's not forget this wonderful game!
On the contrary, many MCC modders are FROM the Custom Edition days. Trust me, we get it, and we’re pissed 😂

Halo CE will never die. I have far too many memories of playing this game as a 12 year old boy, it genuinely changed my life. The game will forever be in my heart.

I miss the golden days, back before the GameSpy shutdown when Halo Trial, Retail, and Custom Edition were packed with players. I still host a Halo Custom Edition server that mimics the settings of the Halo Trial servers I hosted, but it's hard to get players these days.
The very first Custom Edition video I ever watched on UA-cam was someone showing off the map 'house 2' with the Hail 117 Anthem track by Mothergoat playing over it. Watching this sendoff video to this game, well over a decade later, and with that SAME track playing feels very fitting. Funny how things work out that way.

This is my entire childhood. I put a minimum of 6000 hours into CE, according to my Xfire (Stealthy4u) account. The amount of fun I had in gamenights hosted by other community members were some of the best times of my gaming history. CMT Snowgrove, Hugeass, Yoyorast, Teletubbies, Rainbow Road, Coldsnap, and many more iconic maps hosted weekly as everyone jumping into the community Ventrilo server. Halo, especially halo PC/CE will always be a cherished part of my life.

I can still remember the first time I played Hugeass. I loved the design of the Longsword in CE's campaign and wanted nothing more than to fly it, and you can bet your sweet ass I ran to that fucking thing after my 14 year old brain finally figured out how to get Custom Edition running. That and being able to duke it out in a Halcyon-class against a CCS. Hell I even remember making up little scenarios on some of the maps when I didn't have connection to the web.
What a great mod, and a great community surrounding it.
Shoutout to those who have gone Missing In Action, and shoutout to Vadam for constantly breathing life and shining light onto a huge component of my childhood, love your work man.

We still need proper mod support for the CGB. The way it is now, custom games on these modded maps can only work in discord servers.
Custom Edition was a big part of the reason we got MCC on PC. It fueled the demand to bring Halo to PC for so long, and so IMO it should get a big portion of the credit.

man custom edition will always have a special place in my heart. it always gave me the experience from the other games that i could never get cuz my family could never afford consoles (nor they would've bought for me). oh boy just messing around with dev cheats in covenant v marines maps, having fun in dmt air, the list goes on and on. halo custom edition brought me into a world that i never even would've imagined
I almost cried because of all the nostalgia. This video is an awesome and realy faithful representation of all those days and nights that made me love this game and comunity. It fills my heart with emotion and hapiness in a way I haven´t experienced in a very long time :')
Too many memories on these maps and adventures. All thanks to Custom Ed. Honestly wouldn't be the same man without all these classics while growing up.

I didn't know how to get Custom Edition when I was a kid, and I only had Halo CE on the Xbox, so I just watched youtube videos of these mods instead.
Still gives me so much nostalgia. One of my favorites was a map called Pipe Dream. It was a large battlefield in an alien ship or something, that had mechs and shit.

CMT campaign mod was so good. 2006 was so amazing for halo fans. At the time the mod was announced there was a big rumor on Bnet that Halo CE was getting a facelift with Halo 2 assets to better match 3, somethjnf comjng out thebfollowing year. It was such a rush to play that mod.

Best Halo ever, mods like Light Saber melee fights, still plays great today, Halo Infinite could learn a LOT from this. Best multiplayer gametype choices too, no stupid random maps chosen by the server, no waiting for a full lobby, true Mods.

I wouldn't consider it soley a successor, as they are great existing side by side, but getting the next generation of party games in Halo Online 0.7 is a wonderful time to be alive

This is also my favorite game and one of the most important to me... Although it is somewhat sad to see how abandoned it has been, I am happy to see that there are still a few servers standing. Maybe it's not as good as it was when I was a kid about 15 years ago but, now at 25, I still consider it an INDISPENSABLE game on any PC I play... Thanks for the video, it makes me smile :')
