- Red Squirrel - rustic psychedelia - a superb Stackridge track from their 2009 re-formation album, A Victory For Common Sense. This video was recorded at The Chapel Arts Centre, Bath in August 2009.
Stackridge, Camel and Caravan three bands from the 70,s all vastly underrated ...takes me back to the early 70,s and A levels.. big part of my growing up, now a life time away occasionally re-lived...Thanks Guys... ( and Gals )
Yes,yes,yes
At the time they were all on a level playing field. We didn’t put Floyd Yes and Genesis on any greater plane than the other great prog bands like Gentle Giant, Groundhogs, Capability Brown, Camel, Fruup, Free, Sharks, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Andwella etcetc but they have been mostly overlooked by people in later years.
Stackridge - what a great, great band - better than ever!
'A Victory For Common Sense' - wonderful album, and they are so good live - go see 'em ...
Bickershaw festival 1972....brilliant
Beautiful stuff. Thank you for sharing it.
its brilliant. Deserves greater exposure
Studying for A levels at Weymouth tech circa 1976 . Students union dance , stackridge played , blew me away , re- discovered them again a few years back , superb band , every time I listen to them it transports me back 46 years to when I was fit ,healthy , young and had my life in front of me , thanks so much Stackridge.
Unusually serious - but still eminently lovable. What talented chaps (and chappesses) they are!
... with a guitar break to die for.
Stackridge have been one of my favourite bands ever since first seeing them at Reading Festival around forty years ago. How can you not love a band with Abraham Lincoln on bass?
Crun lol
I have just seen them live in Bath. Brilliant and I agree with other comments on here - can't understand why they don't receive greater recognition. Musical integrity in abundance.
Great music AND a sense of humour. Stackridge were ever thus but now with a totally up to date edge. Taken from A Victory For Common Sense.
Excellent!
This particular track was one of the best releases by anyone in 2009.
Why oh why is this band not better known? This whole album is brilliant. Knocked me off my feet and I have seen them many times. When you listen to what is actually successful these days, well I can't possible imagine what the band members must be thinking (down in deepest Nempnett Thrubwell ...).
It was 10 years ago today (ish)? This is just superb, and Stackridge deserve sooooooo much more exposure - even if they don't want it!
Huge appreciation to whoever did the filming/video edit too.
Best thing ever came out of the 60's and lasted til 2015
With very little Music worth watching on TV this makes up fo it in a big, big way.
seen live twice! and got tickets for me and my dad already for next tour!
Stackridge are a really great band - A Victory for Common Sense definitely best album of 2009. Can't wait for the next one!
Must see them live one day. Big memories of growing up. Thanks..
OMG, THAT WAS TOO AWESOME! DUDES ROCK!
This is awesome...from a legendary band that never quite made the big time......maybe good tho, as they have remained true to themselves and are so beautifully English.......much love to them all on their retirement, but will be greatly missed......looking forward to their final gigs...and hopefully I can be at some of them xxxx
+Stephanie DeMerse Yes, we have just got tickets for Bath and for the final gig in Bristol. Wonderful band, it won't be the same without them!
We saw them at the Boom Boom club in Sutton , Surrey , wow , they were just amazing , got to speak to the beautiful & talented Violinist , i was blown away , see them if you can , you will not be dissapointed
Such a brilliant band, only caught them lately, a real hidden gem of music they are.
Clare is there
such a great track it's up there with "Don't fear the Reaper" for my money, lyrical and guitar heaven :-) D
Great bit of film work, terrific song. Thanks for posting.
I heard in an interview that at a gig someone shouted out 'Play Red Squirrel!', They didn't have a song called Red Squirrel, so they wrote this!
Saw them at the Duchess in York about 2 weeks ago.Brilliant,'''
Great song, by a fantastic band!
Brilliant
Magnificent Song... Red Squirrel - funky allegorical tales of the undergrowth with a dark McCarthey era theme !
You must see this band LIVE befor they become the soundtrack kings for modern filmakers. Do I detect subliminal references to Another Brick in the Wall ?
What a great track and performance by these guys! I first heard them in 1975 on their album Man In The Bowler Hat and they've still got that magic 35 years later! The lead singer, Andy Davis, was a musician on John Lennon's "Imagine" album in '71 and that influence on this song is screaming Beatles (and the Sgt. Pepper sound, in particular)! I can't think of another band who is continuing the Fab Four spirit as well as Stackridge. Spread the word about Stackridge...this is awesome music!
Agree! Saw them in the Slark and Friendliness days, and booked them at Uni in the Extravagaza period! As you say awesome music!
Man In The Bowler Hat...influences from the Beatles is no great suprise when one considers...it was produced by George Martin...the west country Beatles he called them...brilliant album.
Great song
great stuff!
Sheer magic!
caught up with them finally at Lowdham In Notts November 2010 - Just as brilliant as they have always been, hopefully there will be some more new material in 2011 Their great performance of The Last Plimsoll recorded in USA in October has Just aired and is gaining them lots of new fans as well it seems
Awesome!
Superb...
Some nice
that's a cracking kit sound
@MsBkirk Yes had caught that variation - On Her Majesties Secret Pleasure - perhaps?
A wonder...
I love this band more than chocolate
Great song.Someone can put the lyrics please¿
I can imagine Liam Gallagher singing this song
everyone should be screaming at the creeps at the radio stations of the uk for not supporting such huge talent as these guys and that includes all the weaselly compliant overpaid djs happy to take the fascists money and do nothing. Regards from Gordon haskell
Could be Oasis?
OK ! who sacked Mr McCartney ?
like Oasis only better
