Sorry you're feeling that way. I lived in DC for over a decade and I was able to thrive quite well. However, I moved to a warmer climate after experiencing my 2nd blizzard in the city. It was a good time, but the weather definitely impacted my spirit.

I grew up in Chicago, moved to Dallas, and now live in DC. If you're used to Texas weather, DC will require an adjustment. For those used to Midwest/East Coast weather, or generally gloomy weather, DC's haziness will, for the most part, be indistinguishable.
Parenthetically, the Winter Blues is a legitimate point that should not be overlooked by those who are more sensitive to the climate.
I was a completely different person after moving to Texas, and plan on returning.

In Houston, you cannot do anything because it is extremely hot! No one is outside in 100+ degree weather during the day. If you happen to be outside in Houston, it is most likely in your car (super boring). At least DC has a metro and better walkability. Walking is proven to improve mood but Houston lacks this feature in a city.
I think if you make a comparison, try to show both sides. I still enjoyed your video tho - current Texas resident

I’ve done a number of major cities between CA, the Midwest, and East Coast. I’ve done 2/3 on the top 3 largest and about 1/3 on top 15. DC is my next and I found this clip while searching for more information about it.
All that to say this: what I’ve learned from all of this uprooting and settling is that all the major cities are great and all the major cities suck. There’s no perfect major city so find the one that works the best for you. I’ve gone through a ton of high expectations and major disappointments with some of them - which is what I’m kind of getting from this video.
It’s all good to call it an experience and move on to the next. In retrospect you’ll eventually be okay with having simply tried something new. Hope you find the city that’s right for you.
One last thing: I hit a major slump just like you did for one of those cities but I decided to take everything it threw at me, in terms of disappointment, and basically forced what the city did offer to be my own lived experience. Requires a lot of work but I will say that in the end, that city did in fact become my home and every time I visit it I remember all the good things I was able to squeeze out of it. I actually would move back to try it again but this time on my own terms with my own reset on expectations. Good luck and make sure you take vitamins this winter because of the weather and lack of sunlight.

On one hand it's lights, cameras, action. The strip, the party, the allure. On another hand Vegas has a dark undertone to it too. It can feel depressing as well not because of the weather but because of the people are weird, Vegas has no culture, super drug & prostitution infested, it's a rat race city, unless you into hospitality & casinos & bartending good luck on jobs. It's not a big industrial city & there is NO corporate business in Vegas. Just hotels & casinos & restaurants. You may find a warehouse job here or there but if you get hired the hate is great especially if you work hard. It's a crab in a barrel mentality. Vegas is very diverse. I'm black so I like being around my people. Especially coming from Atlanta. In Vegas we are out numbered, I went days sometimes without seeing someone black. That was the biggest con for me. The police are Hell so do right or know how to do wrong right. Vegas is costly. You could find affordable living in Vegas as far as apartments but not houses, grocery is high, gas is high. However Vegas is a vibe, it's a lot to do outside the strip. To sum it up Vegas is one of those cities that's gonna be what you make it, the crowd you choose to hang with & environments you frequent. Vegas is a city made for people with money! & Like Atlanta is the playground for young urban people. Vegas is the playground for the 35 & up crowd that ranks from urban to sophisticated. & It's a lot of money In Vegas but it for hustlers legal or illegal. I’ve been trying to give it a chance, but I guess it’s that corporate white-collar vibe that I really don’t like. I also find it extremely hard to meet people here, people seem to be too busy to want to socialize outside of networking. I no stranger to moving to a new city without knowing anyone, but something about the D.C. area has made the move extremely difficult for me socially. You will have the stable job the high pay etc but as countless people say it stops there. Another thing is people in the DC area just work government jobs or 9 to 5's retire and die you won't find many creative artsy or entrepreneurial people like NYC, ATL etc... I personally have already saved my $$ for years here with a plan and I will put it down on a condo or house in HTX or another cheaper city and get a high paying remote job / combine with investments and yeah so I found your videos because I'm learning everything about HTX. It will take years to pay off a house or condo that you could probably pay of with a few years of a DC area salary while renting a cheap room or something in Maryland suburbs. I’m glad someone else said it! Been in the DMV my whole life and I’m bored as hell and I’m the process of leaving by 2025. Plus the cost of living is ridiculous in the surrounding suburban areas. love the diversity of people culture wise. But as someone who’s artistic and spiritual I feel like people here are so out of touch with life outside of gov. Based jobs and basic 9-5s. People sometimes tend to think they’re more important than what they actually are. Plus I like people who are open minded and like to try new things. People I grew up with here are so closed off and boring at times. Everything seems so repetitive too food places, stores, entertainment, etc.

You cant save money in DMV it's too expensive. That's not a place to go to save money unless you're living with family. You're not going to pay 2k a month rent and save money.

@@LibraYall Yes you can. I'm doing it right now. Get a high salary, Cut all debt, live cheap, make the sacrifice to rent a room or a cheap basement. You will save a ton of money and even more if you just live with family. The DMV area has cheap basements all over the place as well as rooms. The issue is apartments and houses are expensive so thats when you take your money saved and put down on a house in Texas, North Carolina etc and switch jobs. Take a pay cut if needed because you already have a chunk of house payed off or from money saved in DMV. Damn I should charge for this advice. LOL

Maybe it's just you maybe if you had a positive attitude about life maybe things will look different if you were six feet under you would love to state that you live in and you will love the weather you wouldn't complain because you wouldn't be able to. I like your situation then change it
