- Band Aid was a British and Irish charity supergroup, founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in order to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia by releasing the record "Do They Know It's Christmas?" for the Christmas market. The single surpassed the hopes of the producers to become the Christmas number one on that release.
I like the way Bono moves his arms to and fro, while singing, it's so characteristic of him :)
And Sting's messy hair, awwww, love it!
This is a true treasure for pop-history!
Deffinently needs "Digital re-mastering",but after that, it still stays The greatest world aid fund ever!!! You did a great favour to you-tube!
Boy George has a really great voice, he's really underrated as a singer.
It is easy to forget how amazing a singer Boy George is...wow, his voice is brilliant.
this shows how much this singers are giving in terms of effort and how uncorrupted they are, bravo.
A moment in time that was captured & never to b repeated. It still moves me to tears. I was 17 yrs old when this came out & i bought 12 albums., yes 12 vinyl albums cuz i couldnt afford anymore. I still have 11 unopened. What wonderful memories this brings back. thank you & God Bless everyone!
Everyone has there own Favorite Singer Here but I have to say Boy George is My Favorite. His Voice is Special and Unique and I Get Goosebumps just listening to it.
Boy George adds the soul to the song, great singer!
OMG @1:24 seeing Boy George & Simon Labon walk arm & arm so endearing
Oh yes, it absolutely was! I bought this behind the scenes video and when that part came up, my friends and I were screaming with laughter and kept rewinding the tape to see it again. It wasn't obvious from the footage, but the "Georges" did not like each other very much to begin with and reportedly GM was FURIOUS when he saw that little bit of cattiness from BG - but couldn't do anything about it.
if someone comes up with an idea to save another persons life. that in its self is amazing.well done bob.
George Michael was simply awesome as usual. Boy George has a really amazing voice and can't go wrong with Simon's part "there's no world outside your window" One of the best Christmas songs of all time
BAND AID REALLY MARKED OUT THE WAY BY FAR!!! THE OTHER BANDS JUST FOLLOWED IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS. FOR SURE. GOD BLESS YOU!!!
Bob Geldof and Midge Ure were really satisfied with Phil Collins drumming but Phil wanted another shot because he thought he could do a little bit better... And he nailed it...spot on!
i love b george so candid!
do you know its christmas by band aid and usa for africa song, we are the world were amazing songs back in the 80's, they made a tremendous impact back then
The good old 80's !!
Thanks a million times for sharing this 3-parted story!
I like his hair too ,all his look in this doc. and his funny actions and conversations.....but actually I like his eye make up most with his attractive blue eyes....of course his PERFECT VOICE is the thing that we love him so much until now!!!(he made the song become more brilliant, compare with the original version of Bob in part 1/3)
nothing beats this original version...the later versions can't even touch this.
Boy George is just too funny! Love that colour hair on him. Hard to believe it 1984 when it was recorded.
hah! Sting looks great on this, so is phil collns awesome. bono nervous but w/ great voice..boy george give george michael a run for his money...but all in all they are a bunch of profesionals...great song one of the best ever.. thanks for the upload.
This was a beautiful video, thank you soo much for posting it!
at the beginning, there is Sting, Bono and Simon LeBon...who could ask for more!!??
I almost drop a tear when boy george came in, you will notice in the video that they respect him well, Inspite of his struggle in alcohol and drugs his voice is still unique and did a good job here. Awesome group of artist. I just wonder why Tears for Fears did join this cause?
Great memories for us who remember the original... tho Bono & Paul Weller look about 17!!!
No, you don't.
This is the original, the best, the one that inspired the successors (We Are The World, etc), and the one that made the world stand up back in 1984.
No cover of this could ever compare to the original.
Brings back memories! I remember watching this in '84 when I was 16...where does the time go??
This rules!
Tony Hadleys voice is class too
Tears for Fears WERE part of this song...They provide the drum sample at the beginning of this song. It's taken from the song "Mad World".
the mellotron bass track is brillant
its funny watching this now how unsure Bono is of himself-he wasn't one of the big stars then compared to now. Where are all those other people now? Some are stil around but they've had their day.
how many memories...!means that I'm old?
Yeah i have heard the same thing
Paul Weller from The Jam (you know the hit, "A town called Malice")
@friendsofbo Couldn't agree more then again we got Bono. Wish I could do more myself. Peace
i love Sting at 4:21❤️❤️❤️
Based on the pre-mixer evidence presented in this video, Boy George has earned the right to have as much ego as he wants about his singing. ^_^
I love the fact that Boy George calls out George Michael as basically being gay. And the was in 1984!!!
Jon: Which ay does Boy George go?
George: Shut up Jon!!
I think it's the bassline track; it seems like it's louder than it's supposted to be.
;-)
bono is like, the fidgeting most, and sting, with his big nosewipe-on-the-arm...pure class. needless to say, simon le bon wins this horse race.
check out Bono at 0:12...all fidgety lol
I do adore Boy George. He makes me laugh.
@Jess10892 i agree!
funny to see and hear how the smarter singers avoided to appear too dominant in the mix -- sting, paul weller etc..you see them, but you will not remember it as their song, but as the song of "simon le bon", "le bono" and "boy george michael"
What is the weird synth sound that you hear at about 1:49-2:10 as boy george sings?
Boy George's Eyes .... :D
* George Michael & Simon LeBon is my heaven (:
I wonder why Morrissey and The Smith weren't there.
@beniazetka He's sweet too, I passed out from all the crazy girls & the bouncer took me backstage & when they came off the stage he stopped & made sure I was Okay
Actually, I believe George Michael outed himself from jump street, if you consider the way-gay gayness of Wham! pre-"Wake Me Up...". The lyrics, video, etc. for "Young Guns (Go For It)" spoke volumes... nonetheless I heartily agree that Boy George was the brave, nearly-lone voice for being okay with ones own sexuality in the UK pop world back then. Who else, but Boy & Pete Shelley.. and Bowie, sort-of, anyway!
Ahh! The hair! The earrings! The shoulder pads! Great song though.
How come no gals got leads?
I'd never wondered that b4, but- ... does seem like a bit of a shame/ oversight.
Great ideals, great track.
This video is full of hot ppl!:p Sting, Simon Le Bon(Duran Duran in general XD), Boy George...rawr!^^ Haha.
@master221969 tears for fears didnt have a major hit til 85, this was xmas 84
Can I find the Band Aid Story on dvd?
@levisguy53 he is awsome!^^ Love him & Duran Duran! (:
You forgot Simeon!!! also Tony Hadley, Paul Weller..
who are the girls at 8 .42
LOL. That was funny. Boy outed George Michael for years. I guess it does take a queen to know a queen. But, they are talented queens non the less.
@perpetual61 simon le bon rocks
Who is at 7:25?
@nady22 Bono is a hottie!
wonder why tears for fears wasn't invited
Was that George outing George Micheal 10 years before he came out??? Hummm....
Bananarama!!
thats not true...boy george got a lead..thats a girl if ever I saw/heard one..and I like him/her...
Maybe it;s just me and my computer, but the voices don't match the video .. I hate that!
Like how they didnt include Freddie Mercury on this, yet on the day of Live Aid.. Queen stole show..
I hope that after 10 years you have been informed that those pop musicians where gathered together in a matter of few days, if not hours. Some even showed up that very day when they learned that they were recording this charity song. There were no new technologies to contact people who might be on the other side of the globe. And Live Aid has nothing to do with Do they know it's Christmas? since Bob Geldof still didn't come up with the idea of organizing such event.
@@itsisk2043 I mean... it was 10 years ago. Why do you fee like you have to be patronising to the past? Good luck finding another comment that’s 10 years old
@@shempone Patronising? I simply answered to your question explaining you the context of the situation in the time it was done. I'm not patronising anything.
@@itsisk2043 you honestly think that after 10 years people don’t become aware of certain things???
@@shempone Your comment was easy to find. So many people could read it. I just wanted to give my two cents. I'm sorry if you feel offended. That wasn't my intention.
