    I hate hearing the red tide reports again. It's good you have a close place to still find good fishing. Awesome video as always! I've learned good things from watching your videos, excellent tips. I don't fish with cut bait enough. Keep them coming.

    Good video again Jake! Awesome tips. Sad about the redtide messing up beautiful Estero Bay. Me and my buddies have had to push up towards St. James city to fish because of it. Question, do you ever target Sheepshead this time of year? I've caught several on Fiddler crabs. Would love to see your strategy as well. Tight lines buddy!

      Yes, in fact, about a month ago when I was out chasing reds in Estero Bay, there were BIG sheepshead everywhere. I made a note to target them on the next trip using fiddler crabs, but then the red tide hit. I have also wanted to try to catch one using the cranka crab lure. Quite a few have had success with it on sheepies. If I find any fiddlers for bait when I am camping down in the 10k, I will definitely target them.

      @@jakewkayakfishing8457 the Bait station in N Ft Myers and D and D in Matlacha carry fiddler crabs. They stay alive for weeks if properly taken care of in case you want to take them camping.

    Thank you for the tip for cutbaits. Never use them because I would only catch catfish.. Make sense.. Where do you lunch the kayak to fish the 10,000 island. Will be moving to that area in the summer & looking forward to fishing the area.

      The 10k is an amazing place. I like to launch at the Gulf Coast Ranger Station in Everglades City.

    Hi Jake: Still lovin' your videos. Just got my lifetime pass for the federal park system and am planning on getting down to the 10,000 islands soon. With all the winds we've been having recently in SWFL, I have not been getting out much. I have generally used 11 mph as a cut-off for taking the yak out for both safety and control reasons. Do you have a general rule as to what upper wind limits are acceptable to venture out?

    • @jakewkayakfishing8457
      @jakewkayakfishing8457  4 роки тому

      Thanks John. Your rule sounds reasonable for most. It is all relative to the type of kayak and level of experience and fitness. Many kayaks are more capable in wind and waves than smaller boats are. On windy days I modify my float plan to areas that are wind protected. For example, you can launch at Port of the Islands and be completely protected from anything but a direct North or South wind. I just avoid having to cross large bays in winds over 15 mph. Open water crossings in double digit winds are not fun. I have been caught out in winds in the 20s when the weather report was not accurate, and the Predator handled it without making me feel unsafe, but it's a wet ride and not something I would do by choice. Wind at your back is the most difficult because the waves can push your rudder sideways suddenly. A firm grip on the controls in that situation is a must.

      @@jakewkayakfishing8457 Thank you, Jake, for your response. I drive a 2015 Outback with upgraded 180 degree peddles. I am getting pretty anxious as I have not been out in a couple of weeks now due to the winds being forecast to be above 10 mph just about every day recently. Based on your recent videos, it appears that you generally find good water even with the high winds. The extremely low tides recently have also been a factor.

    Where do I get a "Moose-tad" hook lol??

      @@jakewkayakfishing8457 that's funny man! I got a good laugh out of it. Appreciate the tips on keeping the bait away from cats. I rarely fish cut bait on the east coast but do on occasion. I'm usually hooking sharks as by catch fishing bridges and channels with cut bait.

    Jake..never fished that area ..yet ..lol...what’s the average depth ?..thanks

    • @jakewkayakfishing8457
      @jakewkayakfishing8457  4 роки тому

      Depth in the 10k varies alot. There are countless deep passes, shallow bays, deep bays, tiny medium depth creeks, and even the flats vary because 4 ft. tidal swings are common. Those oysters I was fishing will be sticking two feet out of the water with just inches of water surrounding them on a typical low tide, but be fully submerged and hard to locate on high tide.
