When President Trump's administration announced the move in 2017, it also officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital. And while Israeli leaders celebrated, Palestinians denounced the move.

Except they forgot to mention that the protest following the embassy move contained Hamas fighters that were using violence against Israeli Police, also that Clinton, Bush and Obama has said that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel but never had the guts to move the embassy.

Except its not accurate. Vox says the Palestinians only claim East Jerusalem. In fact they claim ALL of Jerusalem. That is why they are angry when the US puts an embassy in WEST Jerusalem. If they only claimed East Jerusalem then it shouldn't bother them, if there is an embassy in West Jerusalem.

I see a lot of people calling anyone who values Jerusalem idiot here in the comments. I might not be religious, but if the city I grew up in and learned culture from was being torn apart by two different groups with exclusionary ideologies, I would be upset as well. It's not just about it being a holy place, it's also about it being a place of culture and belonging. There's nothing productive about belittling their struggles because your values are removed from theirs.

But the groups don't have to have exclusionary ideologies. Hell as you can see the Palestinians are basically offering a compromise and only want the part of Jerusalem that isn't particularly connected to Judaism. On the other hand Israelis want everything. It's a bit sad that an ethnic group that has been persecuted for years around the world now does the same to another ethnic group that has also fought for independence even years before the modern Israel was formed. I understand that Palestinian territories may hide terrorists or other factions Israelis may not like but giving them independence would actually be a better choice since it would ease the tensions and allowing the people in those areas to focus on building their own communities would limit the aggression. I don't understand why Israel polititians are so stubborn, not only they are hurting thousands of innocent people but they are hurting their own citizens who are also victims of the violence cause by the absurd politics they follow.

Have you ever wondered for a moment who is sitting in UN and making these decisions? They are people from countries like Qatar, Syria, Cuba, the Emirates, China, and other countries that have no ties to Israel.
My solution, whilst it might not be viable in the geopolitical sends, is to grant Jerusalem independence from both states and establish it as a separate country/city-state.

This isn't a religious question. Christians assume that all religions act as christianity, but Judaism simply doesn't. Most Jews won't act simply on religious justification, certainly not enough to lead to such important policy shifts. This isn't based on religion. This is, for most Jews, about the history of the ethnic group. Jerusalem has much more sentimental value to the people, than it does to the religion.
If you think this conflict is God-fear-fueled, you fail to understand the very basics of the subject.
