This period of Audi is my favourite. They were just very nice. Nice inside, nice outside, nice to drive and nice to own. Understated quality. BMW and Mercedes took care of the ‘sporty’ types who liked to drive like they carry their brains in a thimble, Audi was a bit like Saab and Volvo, cars for people who liked nice things but didn’t feel the need to impress anyone through the medium of possessions. But then somehow, somewhere either humans decided they wanted their cars to demonstrate their status by how much they could afford to pay each month on PCP or Audi just decided that for us and Audis became shouty status symbols. I like Audis of this smooth aero period, it all started to go wrong for me around 2007/2008. I think the last nice, elegant Audi was the A5 coupe from about that time. I would very much like an RS6 Avant of this generation, like Daniel Craig had in Layer Cake.
I love this era of Audi. They had an amazing smell when new too that just emphasised the quality! It's all the little details. Refined gentle driving without shouting about anything. The way that engines starts so smoothly with a mutted growl and those classic dials is what it's all about ❤
Those a6's where a pleasure to fit windscreens in , when new .
I love this car and the colour , quality interior everything about it , what does that say about me ?.😂
If Audi were like this now, I would like them a lot more.

Hi Mr Mustard. Never owned an Audi & only driven one in my life. I worked for a company in the early 1970's & they had a Morris Marina TC (twin carb) GT which we loved, then along came an Audi 100 & oh! my what a fabulous car it was, Being a young 20 something I perfected my rally driving & handbrake skills in it.😃
I quite like these. The styling has aged very well.
My 1991 100 ( a6) 2.8 v6 brings me the same feeling. Smooth and solid. I had an a6 avant m reg , that was a a motorway monster from Glasgow to London regularly. Yeh new ones attract the wrong types

The sad thing about Audis is that, latterly the way a lot of their drivers behave, has somewhat given them a bad name. The cars themselves are actually really good. My dad has had his 06 plate A4 2.0tdi avant from new - originally a company car. It's done 220k, towed a caravan since new and is still on the original clutch and gearbox. It feels solid too and all the controls are so sensibly laid out
It starts, can't see any rot and the headlining is intact. Ticks all the boxes for me.
Front arches are proper rotted, but rot free everywhere else

The only Audi I ever driven was a 1983 100 C2 with the 2.1 5 cylinder engine and SINGLE carb and Econometer (vacuum Gauge ?) ...Why?...... no temp gauge, two lights instead. I liked that. All Aircon equipped cars of any car needs to be used even for short periods winter or summer or it will stop working eventually.
