5150eddie they still are. Look for music outside what is covered by the media. Look up your favourite music style on Bandcamp and start digging to find hidden jewels releases by artist that are in most cases fiercely independent. Tip: check out the band Kingcrow and the song Closer (no connection with them just a recent discovery).
The late 90s were the last period of great music. Talented bands who wrote very good songs, were masters of their musical instruments, and sounded great live.
Great music still exists, but it's harder to find amid all the noise out there. It's difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff! I regularly find new and recent music from bands I'd never encountered previously, by browsing genres and tags on Bandcamp, Soundcloud, and UA-cam. Hip hop, jazz, metal, "art music" (what many call classical), rock, funk, soul, R&B...doesn't matter the genre, it is out there and bands play it live. Obviously, some scenes will be more popular in some areas, but that has always been the case. And I say this as someone who enjoys Queensryche and has seen them live (opening for Iron Maiden, no less!) I love my big, arena-selling bands like AC/DC and Megadeth, but I've been to about 150 smaller venues for local and less-known bands too.
I was really glad I got see them play Operation Mindcrime and Empire in 1990 at Veteran’s Memorial Colosseum in Phoenix. It was my very first concert, and to this day stands as one of the best LIVE shows I have ever seen.
Agreed totally. They played so smoothly and very at ease without screwing up any parts. This really shows the skills and level of musicianship of the bands from the 80s. But for the bands now, they are so concern of whether do they look good or not on stage. Lack of talent, and still don't practice their chop. Totally different league.
Jon Koh I couldn't agree with you more! My kids love music from the 70s 80s and 90s. They NEED to know this stuff exists!!! Some of today's music is trash!
Darren Frank And I bet they'd be just as good today! I saw the eagles in concert before glenn frey's passing and they were AMAZING. That is true music. No special studio effects. Just voices and instruments. I wish I was alive when this stuff first came out!
Rebeca Rojo ,I couldn't agree more. My Son is 24 and grew up listening to Queensryche, FATES WARNING, Dream Theater, Pantera and other great music. He kinda got away with the rap thing for awhile. Thank God that he quit that nonsense and plays guitar now. I took him to see Queensryche in December and he's coming with me, him and his girlfriend, who loves country are going to Fates Warning in June.
Very polished is the word I keep coming back to….when I saw them in Reno, NV (‘96 or ‘97) they were Off the Charts Polished!!! Geoff’s natural out of this world vocals were spot on! (I Love how he would walk back & forth on the stage (to help w/with diaphragm control?)(IDK, I just loved it!) It was almost PURPOSEFUL!! I actually bumped into Geoff Tate, here in Portland Oregon, not sure what year? (Mid-2000’s?) And they were playing that night, I hadn’t known and it was SOLD OUT.! BUT the consummate professional he is , he posed for a pic with me, and THAT was sooo cool! Anyhow, I digress; there are STILL a bunch of us Broken Hearted fans the World Over but at least we have our Memories (for NOW anyhow!), and still have the MUSIC and each other! (Sorry so long)
@@markd3641 well let me explain something to you numbnuts. I didn't say the Geoff Tate and Layne Staley were the absolute best. What I said was, if you want to go ahead and reread it, was that they are two of the absolute best. Which any reasonable person would read that and say that I left room for other singers as well. Thanks for stopping by.
This is a jaw-droppingly great live performance of one of my favorite songs. They were an awesome live band, back in those days with Tate and Degarmo. I was there (in La Crosse Wisconsin) when they were filming LiveCrime. For all my friends back then who asked "can they really play like that live?!" Just watch the videos.
@@kqh123it’s real mostly. Ed is singing quite a bit out of tune on parts. There is a bit of a recorded thing though yes. That’s to give it that chorus effect I think and maybe to make Ed sound better than he actually is at signing.
Degarmo was cool...They were all great around this time, I miss those days. Mindcrime shot right through my soul, Empire had me lost in an ethereal world....
+puckdropper27 Today rock music's dead anyway...gone since the early 90' to me.I grew up with the mighty Van Halen,Whitesnake,Dokken,Scorpions,Pantera and as soon as Cunts'n'Roses,Shitvana,Ratm came around, that was it for me,best guitar hero era was the 70' and 80'.Hi from France :)
I CONCUR!!! I’m in Portland Oregon and I heard on the radio Sammy/George Thorogood/Queensryche (WAIT, What?) I got Sooo excited then I remembered (I remember Now!😁) NO Geoff, No Ryche! So if I go it’ll be really to see Sammy-WHO Never disappoints Live!!
That's the Queensrcyhe line up I miss the most the classic line up. I got nothing against Todd LaTorre but they're not the same without Geoff Tate and Chris DeGarmo
AT least I got to see this line up.....FUCKING AMAZING TOO. They put on a show for the ages. every set they would change into roles for the tunes. man what a time
The magic that made these great songs and performances will never be revisited without this lineup this is the 5 that give this band the X factor that made them stars and stand out from everyone else this is the lineup that could get on stage with anyone and shine the band today is pale and weak version
One of several songs from this group I heard as a kid on the radio but no one ever said "that's a great Queensryche song!". A lot of good music, and Jeff Tate's lyrics tend to approach some willingness to face evil and tell a story of it's irredeemable hellishness.
This song has some of the best vocal harmonies since Queen and the Beatles before them. Right up there with many of Jerry Cantrell's tunes, especially in AiC.
In this vid. from 1995, Geoff seems to be sporting a dark-haired persona of the late Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, who was still alive at that time. Both were great Front Men whose vocals stood out from the rest of their respective genres.
So damn good. What this performance demonstrates is the true backbone of this great band. Chris DeGarmo. So melodic and technically sound. The solo here takes a good song and makes it memorable.
Jackson contributed more vocally then I think most realize....it's nice to really see him up close & personal for a change! I think he saved them more often then not & still does...and too bad he hasn't been recognized more for his abundant talents! I think he should be (hint, hint). I don't know enough to really say, but... he seems like the one in the background trying to keep the peace, & fill-in when he can or when someone is needed, & the one not wanting to take credit....just seems like the type! And if so (?) then "Kudos" Jackson! Peace
You are so right about Chris being a huge part of the band. Michael will only be a rhythm guitarist and not have the creative energy or playing ability of Chris. However, Geoff will be my bigger focus of who Queensryche really is. He is the identifier of the band when I hear them. Wished I could have them both back in the band.....together.
Degarmo was a big part of why Operation MindCrime and Empire was so good... without him playing guitar the rest of the QR albums fall a bit flat for my taste
It's not just DeGarmo's skills as a guitarist, it's also his contributions as main songwriter... without him, it really isn't the same band, and never will be.
Chris was also a part of Promised Land and Here in the Now Frontier. Those albums fell short in my opinion. Then he left and the guys continued their downward spiral and eventual split. Wilton's a good guitar player but him trying to play DeGarmo's parts sounds off. There's little accents here and there that he leaves out.
The $ executives dopes started pushing different music b4 they switched to the furtherance of the dumbing down of America with their faked reality crap
The pure talent on that stage is amazing....all 5 of them...no other band can touch these guys period
ALICE N CHAINS ,, JERRY AND LAYNE HARMONIZE LIKE NO OTHER
IRON MAIDEN!!!
I love QR...
But that's an asinine statement man.
Look kiddos, no lip-sync, no auto-tune, melodic singing with actual guitar playing! The way things were, the way things ought to be, even now.

5150eddie second that!! Over the time I love this song!!!
True, but this might not be the band to brag about. Their Live album was the least "Live" than any live album I've ever heard.
Ok grandpa 😁
One of the best bands live back in the day. Seen them multiple time 🖤💜🖤💜
This is the definitive queensryche lineup the band at the peak of their ability
Degarmo is perfect in this song.... note for note perfection
+AceJams DeGarmo is a guitar god....flawless
The solo has a feeling incredible.
*He was the primary songwriter*
Magnificent guitar players ! Real ones! So rare mowadays...

So sad that Geoff isn't with the band anymore. I wouldn't see them live without him.

That solo was COMPLETELY flawless. Wow.
The best band that ever existed.
God damn, DeGarmo, Tate, and Rockenfield-there's a tremendous amount of god-tier talent on that stage.
This is pure magic! All of them are incredible live, as usual. Ryche 4 life!
Kickass song!! Drummer is killing it!
Exactly...f-ing love when he doubles up on kick drum after guitar solo!
Scott Rockenfield can hold his own. He's perfect for this band.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS BY QUEENSRYCHE!!!!!
I love the opening riff on this song !
Omg listen to that first verse... The lyrics.... I scream what you do too me....... Wow that came from this man soul.... Wowwww

This song is utter perfection. I wish today's music was as good as this.
to many acts and singers in general now a days rely so much on technology to make them good. I saw QR in concert 30yrs ago and they were unreal!

Super slick performance from the whole band, this is what real talent looks like!
Great song; kick ass drums, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, backing vox, lead vox, bass...
It was brilliant performance.
Queensryche is simply a tribute band now. All of the talent left years ago.
that guitar solo!
Geoff Tate and Layne Staley. 2 of the absolute best.
The greatest since, along with Ray Gillen.
