  • Although this took a few hours to put together, I wanted to show the effects of when you swap out various computer parts and examine the performance.
What I learned was that an imbalanced system can actually decrease performance, rather than improve it. Mixing a weak processor with a high performance graphics card did nothing but make FPS worse in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
    Parts swapped:
    - AMD 3600X for an AMD 5800X3D
    - MSI 2060 Super (8GB) for an ASUS TUF 4070 TI Super (16GB)

As you can see in the video, I recently switched from a 2060 Super (8GB) to the 4070TI Super (16GB) to get about a 20% increase in performance without DLSS/frame generation. I also had to switch out my CPU for the 4070 to work effectively. Based on the original price of a 2060 super and a AM4 3600X, the cost to switch was 180% more, for a modest 25% increase in performance. *Again, this is without DLSS/frame gen.*
Have we reached as far as we can with hardware technology to get good FPS? Now we have to resort to this AI 'frame gen' to give the illusion that it is better? Is it really an 'illusion' or is it really better. What are your thoughts?

this is really a good comparison. it would be even better if you could add frametime into the RTSS display. alternatively the ingame FPS counter would give you a bunch of more extra details.

I'm running a 5900x with the 4070 ti Super, 64GB 3200, WD Black SSD 2TB with most settings on Ultra. 1440.... Routinely maintaining 100-120 FPS, with sometimes lower when multiplayer crowds landing at busy airports (CPU bottleneck, I think). I don't feel the need to update this rig right now, not until (or IF) 2024 ever comes out. i haven't found anything this rig won't run. BTW, I use it for video editing, too... that was the choice of the 5900x.
