Why is everyone so up their own ass on the internet nowadays. I don't understand how my comment is being taken seriously enough to warrant being branded delusional. Jesus Christ.
Definitely an interesting to watch. You can see the struggle to even move the mouse in a way that works with gaming, the constant jittering. You can also see how the marks that pop up near a tank that just got hit can confuse people since he was constantly looking at those marks rather than the enemy vehicle. I imagine arcade is the easier place to start since it’d mark the enemy for him, but I don’t think it’d be the best mode longer term. I think I’d love seeing him driving in a Sherman or something in that 3.3-4.0 BR range. It’s the best BRs of the game after all.
@@panderson9924 Yeah, I'm kinda mixed a little there because it does work both ways. Step one is really to just get him used to moving the vehicle in 3D space, then get him used to looking around in 3D space, then doing each of those tasks independently of one another. You can definitely see him struggle with that in the video. In my experience, people who have never played a modern video game before typically struggle with the separation between movement and looking around. Once they figure that out and can look around and move a character independently of one another and do both deliberately at the same time, things usually improve rapidly. Its just learning to combine movement and looking around cohesively that can be hard for people who've never played things before.
@@ChaosWolf3 I recognize that and I've seen that before. One time I tried teaching my dad how to play one of my games and he had similar difficulty of moving and looking around in a 3d space. It didn't help that he didn't have his own computer which would allow me to actually be there in game to teach and help him out.
You have an opportunity to show us veterans we havent seen in years.... genuine improvement from bottom tier. I have played since 2012/2013 as well. I dont remember too much of my scrub days. I know is world of tanks my first shot i fired was into the back of a german teammate. For warthunder it was only planes but, i want to see your dad go from reserve to 10.0 and show his development along the way. In some way it even helps me see what bad habits i may still hold as well as open my eyes to some of the rookies in the game. May help me be less toxic because sometimes people arent being stupid or shit... sometimes they are just new and dont have the skills yet. I say this should be a series! Where you have to train your dad untill he gets a nuke before you.
Well I just started playing WT yesterday and I can confirm i need a little practice. I'd like to thank Spookston, TheCodMineMan, and WhatIsTheDelta for getting me into War Thunder
I started in December of 2013. I had a dell laptop and it took a day to download, there weren't any tanks, helicopters, or naval and the highest jet in the American tech tree was an F-86. Now I have a PC I built myself and the game has exploded with the amount of stuff that's been added over the years!
that's the most dad looking dad i've seen this day Edit: he also look like me when my mom introduces me to familiars i've never meet (oh honey don't you remember i held you as a baby for half a second back in god knows when)
This is so funny, I'm 61(SOON 62) I started playing war thunder then got my son to play (35) I totally ruined him. He left for Call of Duty. I only play arcade (old) but that made me laugh. If I had a team that could teach me to play better RP I would, but even on a 60' tv I'm blind.
A face reveal for the new year, I look to be about the same age as your dad, registered with WT in 2014, didn't really like it back then, gave it another go when the spicy flu had us all stuck inside and have been playing daily since.
After my parents came to visit for thanksgiving, they went back home and downloaded WT to play with my kids. Its been fun watching them play, and this video is cracking me up as its the same experience for us getting grandpa to play! Shoutout to WT player GrandpaDavid (go easy on him lol)
war thunder is a really hard game for beginers, but it must be insane for someone who never touched a videogame lol I play games since I was 12 (38 now) and even with all this knowledge, it took me waaay too many hours to understand how to even research tanks or fix lineups, game modes, graphics (your dad had grass on gunner's sight the entire time.. poor guy), where to go, what to shoot, where in the map to find contact, how to bring a plane, how to drop bombs, research points and penalties, etc
Rules: dont bum rush the enemy you arent in an immortal box you're in a death box gunshot magnet. Stay in cover and learn to flank enemys as its easier to kill them from the sides
As for planes: energy, its all about energy and situational awareness always check around you and play aggro with fighters play defensive when in a bigger aircraft
Tanks is simple look at real tank combat videos and use the tactics they do in real life-in game like Hull down and shooting and cover as examples and basically go through hours of reasrearch of enemy tanks and their weak points
Who would have thought that Galaga skills translate directly in to War Thunder. Makes me wonder how well Robotron skills translate. Or maybe Tempest. ;)
No it not. As a new player it’s hell. Lvl 100s in low br sniping me from spots I never knew existed. And the ui is shit. I cannot read the reticle to find distance and angle
his dad makes an effort to not drive into other teammates and succeeds a decent portion of the time which makes him automatically better than most 1.3 players
Hey not bad my 80 year old dad gets confused by his TV remote, I do not want to get in to Smart Phones those blow his mind and he was a radio man in Vietnam War, I just tell him its a radio phone that has a small TV built in.
Thanks Dad for coming along :)

Hello codmineman do you like eating cod?
Wait,your comment is... Impossible @TheCodMineMan
I got it, i love how goofy it is
@BritishCubeWT he doesn't like fish... I remember that at least (he said in discord)
@@DOBAO-k4nthat’s what I’m saying
He legit is better than most of my teammates when I play 1.3 - 1.7
why are you expecting good players at that rank?
@Bottle_of_watter27 where did I suggest I expected anything otherwise? Just stating a fact.
you’re delusional if you think that

I agree with starting in Arcade mode since the tanks are always marked (almost always), so it's easier to spot them.

The downside to arcade is you're also spotted lol, it'd probably be best to play custom battles to teach him the basics like movement
@@Mohenjo_Daro_ Makes more sense, its a mor4e controlled environment.
Hope your dad saves basement guy…
Observing your dad playing WT is extremely entertaining, hope to see more videos with him! Good job, thanks for the video!
Your Dad's legit funny. "Checking these buildings for enemies..." More TheCODMineDad videos please.
"Do I need to worry about gas?" Legit heard the Cod Mine Mom in my head.... "That exit had a Sunoco"
Way to go dad. Did better than me when I started.

Why does cod's dad look like a 60 year old version of him
Maybe bcs he is? 😂
I think that's how dad's work
I thought the same. He's an exact replica of his dad. Like, holy fuck
Because children age you. I'm 46 and don't look a day older than 60.

Cod, its cool that your dad was aiming up and down, looking at the street, like he would do in a arcade game shooting up and down. Great vid btw!
Your dad immediately driving off the point was hilarious
Putting him on Realistic from the get go is absolutely diabolical
Bro it’s actually cute watching him try to play
Great video, as always! Look forward to more :)

This is so wholesome. One of these days, I'm going to try and get my dad, an ex-fighter pilot, to try out DCS.
absolutely awesome!!!
This is not what I expected-
do you have like a war thunder tutorial vid. and if you don’t do you mind making a short vid for like a new player
Rules: dont bum rush the enemy you arent in an immortal box you're in a death box gunshot magnet. Stay in cover and learn to flank enemys as its easier to kill them from the sides

Wholesome 10/10, makes me wish I had a father as well

Your next goal: teach him how to fly a plane
I’m also teaching my dad how to play, he’s got over 200 hours in world of tanks so it’s not too difficult for him.
