I agree, it was savage. I've seen previous season where a woman was actually crying throughout her pitch. And yet the dragons fell for her emotional manipulation. Women can get away with that kind of BS.
Sarah is the sweetest dragon that's ever been in the den. The way she listens to each pitch is just delightful. Haven't seen many people feel the same way but, I miss her :/

If he had come in with a whole line of these products he could've had something. A great product doesn't always mean a great business, but a series of well made and innovative products is a whole lot more appealing to a big investor.

Merchant navy just means you work on a freighter, it's not a branch of the military. No disrespect, my grandfather was in the merchant navy, but its just a haulage job like driving a truck or a freight train.
He's actually not. He's always coaching the entrepreneurs to pitch better. He wants to see them defend their product against the criticisms and challenges they need to be able to face. In this case, he was TRYING to wake this guy up and save him from talking down his own company with all the sob stories, to get him to stop looking for sympathy and start defending his product and his business. He knew exactly what that tattoo was, and used it to try to remind the guy where he came from, to find his pride and toughen up. It didn't work, and Touker ended up spelling it out for him after it was too late - that investors aren't in the business of saving failing companies, they are in the business of partnering with success. That means they have to believe in the entrepreneur. Hard to do when they don't believe in themselves and just want to be saved. Keep this in mind next time you think Peter's being an ass, and you'll see what I mean. He's always trying to bring out their best.
The main thing I've gathered about Peter's character is that he values blunt honesty above all else. He acts this way with all the entrepreneurs who come on, and he seems to value those who will give it back to him in return. That being said, his arrogant quips and general sense of superiority, no matter how justified they may be, can get rather irritating.
To those who think Peter Jones is an arse, you're not completely wrong. I think his opinion and honesty for business sometimes gets in the way of the connection to the entrepreneur. He can definitely be rude on some occasions but I don't really think he does it on purpose, it's just his way of thinking. I think it's funny how some entrepreneurs don't want to say how much they pay for their products to be produced because they don't want 'us customers' knowing how much money they are making. It makes me think that they aren't confident in what they have. I'd purchase a product at 10 times the value of the production cost if I believe in the product. We all know that a bit of plastic isn't going to cost anywhere near the £15 he's selling it for....
This idea is great for him, but no good for anyone else. Sure it does everything what he wants it to do, but most people aren't that desperate for the same needs that they'll go out looking for this. The biggest flaw for me is that this product needs to have the iPad out of its case to work properly, most people have cases on their iPads and most cases have some sort of stands built in.
They really punished this guy for being completely upfront and honest. Wish they could've at least made a comment on how they appreciate not having to see through the bs.

I mean you can kind of understand since the market is heavily over-saturated with gadget stands and a lot of covers nowadays come with stands so already you're left with a smaller market. Also the fact that he admitted he was struggling to sell them wasn't very convincing. But they definitely got it wrong with this one, Plinth is actually selling pretty well from the looks of it. Appearing on Dragon's Den definitely helped it quite a bit.

the problem is charging 15 bucks for this stand. if you are making money selling to distributors at 6 bucks a piece sell it for 8.99 on Amazon.

Merchant navy just means you work on a freighter, it's not a branch of the military. No disrespect, my grandfather was in the merchant navy, but its just a haulage job like driving a truck or a freight train.

The more I watch these, the more I realise that Peter Jones is a rather unpleasant character
He's actually not. He's always coaching the entrepreneurs to pitch better. He wants to see them defend their product against the criticisms and challenges they need to be able to face. In this case, he was TRYING to wake this guy up and save him from talking down his own company with all the sob stories, to get him to stop looking for sympathy and start defending his product and his business. He knew exactly what that tattoo was, and used it to try to remind the guy where he came from, to find his pride and toughen up. It didn't work, and Touker ended up spelling it out for him after it was too late - that investors aren't in the business of saving failing companies, they are in the business of partnering with success. That means they have to believe in the entrepreneur. Hard to do when they don't believe in themselves and just want to be saved.
Keep this in mind next time you think Peter's being an ass, and you'll see what I mean. He's always trying to bring out their best.
You want to be pleasant and be successful? That's not how it works.
The main thing I've gathered about Peter's character is that he values blunt honesty above all else. He acts this way with all the entrepreneurs who come on, and he seems to value those who will give it back to him in return.
That being said, his arrogant quips and general sense of superiority, no matter how justified they may be, can get rather irritating.

To those who think Peter Jones is an arse, you're not completely wrong. I think his opinion and honesty for business sometimes gets in the way of the connection to the entrepreneur. He can definitely be rude on some occasions but I don't really think he does it on purpose, it's just his way of thinking. This bloke is actually doing quite well which I'm happy to say means he proved them wrong but I wish Peter Jones had an opportunity to apologize for the comment about counseling. There was no need for it and he's proven he didn't even need you or your counsel to be successful. Good on him ✊

@@sirploom but if you did it for one person EVERYBODY would want that done and it would take away from some of the fun of watching the show, a lot of the fun of watching it is hearing the figures and the viewer deciding if they would go for it, removing the figures from the audience pretty much makes the show pointless

I think it's funny how some entrepreneurs don't want to say how much they pay for their products to be produced because they don't want 'us customers' knowing how much money they are making. It makes me think that they aren't confident in what they have. I'd purchase a product at 10 times the value of the production cost if I believe in the product. We all know that a bit of plastic isn't going to cost anywhere near the £15 he's selling it for....

This idea is great for him, but no good for anyone else. Sure it does everything what he wants it to do, but most people aren't that desperate for the same needs that they'll go out looking for this. The biggest flaw for me is that this product needs to have the iPad out of its case to work properly, most people have cases on their iPads and most cases have some sort of stands built in.

Well what was clear is that John had class, intellect and presence of mind not to rise to bare bating of some of the dragons (the two ladies excluded from the statement). It seemed more jealousy from the "men" as John was able to give presence without the need for fancy gimmicks and attire. Well done John, an excellent show of dignity, grace and presence. I imagine you were an excellent officer in the merchant navy; and Peter, I expected more from you to manage your own insecurities.

This was infinitely times better than Mybunjee yet didn’t get an investment...
I mean you can kind of understand since the market is heavily over-saturated with gadget stands and a lot of covers nowadays come with stands so already you're left with a smaller market. Also the fact that he admitted he was struggling to sell them wasn't very convincing. But they definitely got it wrong with this one, Plinth is actually selling pretty well from the looks of it. Appearing on Dragon's Den definitely helped it quite a bit.
