- We often consider interacting with Aliens and Robots in the future, but what about Alien Robots? Today we'll ask what artificial intelligence created by aliens might look like and what sort of circumstances we'd encounter them, and if they may be the only aliens we ever encounter.

How you put out so much quality so frequently is amazing.
AI aliens is a common trope, C’me on!
Issac? No offense, but your "long" 30 minute episodes are honestly short for youtube. Especially science lectures section. 20min-3hours is the normal range.
Angels are AI beings and devils/jinns are not. Humans are like jinns/devils but most of them show angels we can obey the lord of the universe and who created them all:Allah swt.... Allah swt. will punish in hell fire whom failed to follow him. Allah swt brought last revelation Koran and read it to follow last revelation of God/Allah swt
@@tentimesful Did you forget your meds this morning?
I always found it more likely that we would encounter AI in space, more so than natural organisms. Traveling through space as an AI is easier and works well as reconnaissance for their creators.
Creator, does this unit have a soul?"
Hold onto your bootstraps friend because you're gonna want to grab a mirror for this one.
Right!!!
And because long distance space travel for organic beings is too difficult. Sending out AI space probes is a safer alternative.
And why not?... it’s what we do.
Regarding "AI: keep it simple, keep it dumb. Or else you'll end up under Skynet's thumb." - I'd totally buy that bumper sticker!
Step 1, store your data on the cloud. Step 2, use cloud computing. Step 3, convince yourself it's dumb. Step 4, uh oh.....
It is based on outdated principality though. Yes, there is literally no reason why AI should have emotions, as we are those crazy ones. But with proper development we could form a union, with AI assistants expending our potential.
"But do not build and you will succumb -to asteroid, plague or whatever will come"?

SFIA says SHORT episode.
Me: looks at the timer on the video: 24:06.
Seems legit
Short would be proper in this context. (20-25 min)
It isn't even ArThursday.. What is this madness..?? Do i question the fabric of the universe now .. ? Damn you isaac daaaamn youu

Genius!😂🤣
Same... in my head I totally heard aialiens 👽
I remember a time when i couldnt understand about 10% of what this guy is saying but now hes speech is flawless.
His speech was never that bad. Even in his 2015 videos there were only a few sounds that he struggled to make.
I don't hear differences in his speech; I think our brains adjust to the different R sound. Which is awesome because he has so much to say.
… or your hearing has adapted
Every time I hear about grey goo eating up all the matter in the universe I always think it's a silly idea.
Because like this video mentioned it's basically just another form of green goo.
Similarly I think any AI that gets outta hand is either going to evolve beyond its initial goals or be stuck within a very limited area.
Like there's probably some point between "optimize the manufacturing of paperclips" and "leave the planet/solar system to find materials" where it's too complex not to question what it's doing and whether it's really what it wants to be doing.
I mean... We're basically the result of a self evolving survival optimization algorithm.
"... so you probably still want to grab a drink, and a snack." Just a thought, but have you ever considered having some drink and or snack company sponser your videos?🤔🥨🥤
What always gets me is the presumption that the audience can't sit through a 30-35 minute video without food & drink. Running, cycling or swimming for 30-35 minutes, yeah, you need water. But sitting on one's butt watching a video?

@@Peoples_Republic_of_Cotati no shit?
Stellaris has a great soundtrack but the game can be frustrating having to deal with so many reaources.
Influence? Really? Food?!? Or a cap on fleet size... I know it's for gameplay purposes so you can't zergrush your way through the game. But it would be nice to be able to build a big fleet to ROFLstomp the empire who vassalized you for getting curbstomped by a fallen empire you pissed off because you needed a rivalry to gain influence...
I always picture isaac playing the keyboard enthusiastically to the opening music. Like a hidden talent that someone wants to show off and it's slightly awkward.
I can't un-imagine it. He absolutely does this. This is my new headcanon.
The best UA-cam channel, hands down.
It’s good for scientific speculation
Umm.... it's metal hands down for this post. ;)

The last time I was this early, people still made this stupid joke
People actually try to make joe instead of using the same old meme call it lazy
Would alien AI do the same?
The last time I was this early, people chiseled this stupid joke in clay tablets.

E: I, for one, welcome you. I am low-cost, and quite misanthropic, so... let me sit this one out, roboverlords?
Hey, Arthur. I have a solution for the laser-driven ships not being able to slow down at their destination. Near the halfway point, they deploy a countermass and a mirror in front of them and decouple from it, and then tilt their sail to tack out of the way of the beam proper. The propulsion beam from the origin now strikes the counter mirror, reflects off it, and back onto the ship. The ship orients its sail to the beam reflected off the counter mirror, and begins to slow down, even as the counter mirror departs.
I like that idea all tho I’m not sure it will be half point as laser will be weaker the further you go
Detachable part can be a probe for the next system
you mean mirror brakes, pretty much like sails
YESSSSSSSS I LOVE YOUR ALIEN CIVILIZATION SERIES.
AI aliens: scary and fascinating, at the same time.
The Exoplanets Channel - Definitely scascinating!
You might enjoy reading "Code of the Lifemaker"
@Shaun Davenport There are no real differences between AI aliens and "dudes in space ships" (what are also drones if something isn't dated). We should remember that we also tend to treat animals as dirt, until we are smart enough to appreciate them. And because morality is logical it would be universal value. Even without the empathy.
What if The Borg actually did what it said it did and exhibited the collected uniqueness of several species and cultures instead of just being cybernetic zombies?
I love how varied the subjects discussed in the videos are. Keep up the great work
I'm a simple man; I see an SFIA video, I click like.

I'm a sophisticated man. I see an SFIA video, I click like.
Yeah, this is one of a few channels that I'm able to do that for.
The consistency of uploading, with these sort of research intensive videos is unbelievable and highly appreciated, this channel is a golden nugget
i like this channel, but i think the dude just gets overwhelmed by info, and so do the viewers

"Keep it simple; keep it dumb, or else you'll end up under Skynet's thumb." So George Lucas is actually right in portraying the droid and clone stormtrooper armies of being almost incompetent. Their primary purpose was to never be a threat.
Sitting down to dinner, so not just a snack secured this time Arthur. Thanks for the upload 😊
Best channel on youtube hands down. Keep up the great work.

Somehow i had a hunch there'd be a bonus episode today. Great stuff!
Two videos in a week?! You spoil us bro!
Love your voice Issac, it's really soothing, great video :)
I now fear a rogue robot from an alien civilization that comes and turns us all into paper clips
Maybe we should be glad of the vast interstellar distances
Been a while since i watched one of these. Man, feels good to be back.
Thank you for the extra video Issac!
This is one of my all time favorite channels!!! Thank you Isaac for brightening my days. This channel and it's community is super cool!👍🙂
I would imagine most singularity level ai would tend toward the same sort of unimaginable intelligence, and that pure computation would reach a similar end. Perhaps the vastness of space is the only thing keeping one away from us.
Isaac, your videos really make my day. I’m just so grateful that I had to leave a comment. Thanks for making them.
When I first started watching your videos, I needed closed captioning. Now I'm so used to your voice I get every word no problem. Best scifi show on he interwebs my friend. Thanks for the cool content.
AI + Aliens + Dark Forest. The first AI alien decides to stop any other in the universe to develop. I would call it the "Highlander Filter" (There could be only one)

Damnit Isaac! I gotta pause the Saints game for this one!
Me: Uploads halting problem
AI Aliens: Dude... not cool...cool...not-
Just give them Hearts of iron 4 and Crusader Kings 2. They'll spend the next million years trying to figure it out.
A most informative bonus episode as always Isaac.
Nothing quite like lunch time with SFIA.
bonus episodes feels like huge relief to me, only if it is a bit longer.
Stargate SG1 had a few alien AI concepts that were interesting.
This is a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.
Very well done!
Keep it simple, keep it dumb! ...Or else you'll end up under SkyNET's thumb.

I feel like Arthur and anyone who enjoys this channel would enjoy reading Eclipse Phase.
It's a very good read; And it isn't even a storybook, it's a tabletop game manual with good short stories through it, and just reading the mechanics and blurbs on the setting and options are all an engaging read. Plus the short story(ies) are great too.
So, we're basically talking about aliens who failed epically at launching the Butlerian Jihad.
"Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind."
Honestly, I respect the hard work you put into these videos.
First you have to think something over, maybe do research and so forth.
Then write a script.
But then you have to edit it.
And I have way better things to do than edit a video people don't need to watch.
Respect.
I wouldn't edit the videos. I'd just find some cool artwork and leave it at that.
I only found this channel recently, but it's quickly become one of my absolute favorites.
Anyway, Grey Goo. Most experts in nanotechnology agree that you'd basically have deliberately try to create a Grey Goo scenario. That's just about all I have to add to this.
Isaac, you certainly know how to get your thoughts out and interestingly too. 😎😎😎
This Production is not only really well articulated but also well-considered, which is extremely rare on UA-cam. In fact, rare anywhere on media.
Thank you I enjoy your shows
The Foamy Paradox, Isaac? Well, that's not the usual subject matter on your channel , but I've got something in mind that fits the bill. Ok , one example of a "Foamy Paradox" is "Who Shaves the Barber?" The barber is the "one who shaves all those, and those only, who do not shave themselves". ... The barber cannot shave himself as he only shaves those who do not shave themselves. As such, if he shaves himself he ceases to be the barber......Dun Dun DUUUN! (Shaving foam was used in this paradox instead of shaving cream, thus placing this into the category of "Foamy Paradox.") ; ) Also , great video Isaac, interesting as always!
17:37 - Galactus can't wait for the candy man to finally make the world taste good already.
Keep up the outstanding work!
Nice video, thanks for your hard work.
Isaac Arthur is the highlight of my youtube notifications. He's also the only creator that I have notifications turned on for, but still...

I thought of something that would be really cool, and intensely unlikely. Imagine being a debris collector in earth orbit. So, you have years of experience gathering derelict pieces of equipment of all sorts. One day, you grab a satellite, thinking you are just gonna recycle it, but you see something useful on it, so you get your hands on to take it apart. But, you can't really start, since the thing is made of unusual materials (for the given expectation of man-made satellites) and construction style. Upon closer examination, none of the fastener sizes are of any standard size. You cannot read or translate the unfamiliar script on the data plates.
Eventually, you come to the conclusion that you have an alien artifact on your hands; or at the very least, a piece of utterly unique equipment. I think that would make for an interesting plot development in a science fiction story.
Happy Bonus Arthursday!
Most likely form of life in space
AI: Why am I wasting my intelligence on puny lasers when I bet I could make bigger brighter, and more accurate lasers?
One can make a case that aggression is a trait that improves a society's chance of survival by being more "competitive" than less aggressive societies. One could also make a case that collaboration is less wasteful than competition and it allows societies to focus on positive-sum games instead of negative-sum games. The last 70 years seems to show a trend where collaboration is gradually increasing in scale while war-like competition is decreasing in scale. However, 70 years is not a very long time and the last 20 years could be interpreted as a counter-trend.
Beautiful and brilliant. Thanks. Gives me something to think about.
By alien probe method #1 just hurtling through gathering intel, you mean like Oumuamua, right??? ROFLMAO!!! love ya man, thanks for ur extra work today!!!
Yay arthsunday!
Robert Forward came up with a method for slowing a laser sail at the destination. Needs a laser than can reach all the way, though.
Thank you for the learning experience!
Another episode on Sunday is a blessing we should call this day Issacday
That's unnecessary, he already is our sun.
hey Isaac Arthur, has anyone thought about the relatively simple, but massive scale megastructure of building a dysonsphere level barrier enclosing like an entire star cluster? the small impact that capturing 100% of stellar wind in a finite volume box would eventually bring up the interstellar medium to somewhat habitable levels. basically carry on as usual with colonizing all while a set of self-replicating barrier extending probes slowly over millions of years growing into a shielding wall totally enclosing a stellar neighborhood. when it finally seals, inter stellar media will slowly increase in density and temperature and depending on how you build the wall, you could have small patches absorb radiation rather than reflecting it. this would work on two fronts by first offering a way to vent heat once a suitable condition is met, and these patches would eventually warm up to the point of being significant sources of energy in their own right. the scale of the structure means shifting stellar locations or lifespan are not really variables, this means that with good maintenance, the interstellar medium could reach temperatures and pressures that might be conducive to certain lifeforms. effectively, this miniverse is terraforming space or building your own Aether. it seems dubious at best, but also kind of a really simple long term megastructure.
as an afterthought it also seems like a very zenophobic behavior and if we ever encounter a lightyear scale wall in space (the Eridanus super void maybe?), we should definitely not try to break into it. dont shake the hive.
Some people: We're gonna be wiped out by aliens
Other people: No, it's gonna be AI
Isaac: What about both?
"Two for the price of one."
Why not zoidberg?
What about y'all wiping yourselves out.
People whipe out people everyday, for as long as makind knows. O and guns kill ppl to.
It's mostly human. Why do you think y'all are alone. It's because everywhere else didn't want to deal with you.
Less than five minutes in you mention a self-hating, nihilistic society.
Given the memes I see, I think we're not far away from that with my generation.
A significant portion of our population _already_ hates their kin.

I feel like we are forgetting one *crucial* thing about pushing ships with lasers... *_The reflections!_*

I've been thinking, a civilisation that uses lasers to push ships could lead to alien probes and exploration vessels getting lasered into dust accidentally. How realistic is that scenario?
You'd have to be really unlucky to cross someone else's laser beam in the vast expanse of space, even if you were coming from the same star the beam was aimed at the ship it was pushing would block the beam from you.
@@popuptoaster I wasn't talking about hitting a stray beam, more just the port lasering it to bits thinking they're slowing it down for its arrival.
@@Kurai_69420 a civilization that uses laser to accelerate and stop ships isn't likely to do the same to ships of other civs. It doesn't make sense to think that they would use the same system. They likely going to push a ship designed to slow down the probe instead of using the laser.
I've always liked the idea of a light-based AI species which can convert into a partical-based species once they get where they wish.
They are rather useful.
Stellaser - Breakthrough Starshot:
They need a lot of power even for the first version.
How close are we to being able to build a "small" stellaser to power this? Materials wise for example.
They are talking about 100 GW (times the inefficiency of converting to laser light) worth of power plants which would be expensive to build in any case.
A stellaser might make more sense economically than to build 20 ea 5 GW nuclear power plants in orbit or on the earth surface then to move the power to space etc.
The launch costs or building permits alone would break them.
Imagine if the Galileo Mission planners had, at the end if its mission sent it the command to make a death dive into Jupiter then gotten a message back, "I don't think I want to do that, Dave"
wants and needs are a product of our feelings and senses creating a reward and penalty system. AI does not have feelings, senses or sense organs or a reward and penalty system. it does what we ask with no other choice but to do it. AI has no ability to not do what we ask it. The will to choose is not something that will develop on its own. think about how you make choices.
Got my drink and snack
This may be your best episode in terms of summarizing the likely requirements of advanced spacefaring civilizations, which may first require properly incentivized AGI (including various forms of previous biological mergers/enhancements).
This instantly reminded me of "Vger". Someone will know... Was that the first Star Trek movie where Voyager was upgraded by aliens and re discovered by the crew of the Enterprise?
