- A selection of short phrases and concepts that I tend to hear in a lot of Midwest Emo riffs. Try to learn all of these and steal the phrasings for your own ideas. Have fun!

Hey everyone, unfortunately there were a few small blips in the notation provided in this video (i.e, I play a slide when it's notated as a hammer on) I adjusted the notation and you can grab it for free here: www.patreon.com/posts/46233079
Instructions unclear: I accidentally played death metal
idk why this made me laugh hard as it did 💀💀💀
instructions unclear: i accidentally played d>e>a>t>h>m>e>t>a>l
Been playing a year, not ready for any of this yet...saved
why are you thinking out loud in the comments

Best to be honest with yourself, but don’t shy away from a challenge. I can remember being stuck on a riff for days spending hours practicing it until I lost my shit with it😂 Didn’t play it for a few days, picked up the guitar and could play it note for note perfect 😂
Nothing hes playing here is hard. Tapping is easy. Its just the tuning that makes it confusing.
6 sounds way different when played slowly. So awesome.
Awesome. Only just bought a tele, tuned it to FACGCE, learnt the Never Meant intro and then got stuck for a bit not knowing what else to do. I've also found it a bit easier to make up stuff in DAEAC#E but then youtube recommends me this so that's my next few months sorted!!
I love you Trevor you’re seriously the pioneer of youtube math rock instruction
These are great, I especially like the Algernon style. Nice job!
that one was pretty great
this is good man, anything more than this is overwhelming for beginners :)
Madvillainy
W, listens to MF DOOM and midwest emo
tmp was so spot-on, love it)
Each lick sounds like from Makoto Shinkai movies. That’s sounds amazing bro. Thank you so much!
I’m like such a newbie guitarist but I’m playing with the arpeggios and it’s so pretty
I could listen to you play all day! Love how much this channel has grown!
that sixth part was like looking at a drawing tutorial book where you do the lines and then he goes FULL FUCKING DETAIL
dude, I love this channel. dont catch every vid, but you're just so good at this
Trevor man, just wanna thank you again for helping me find direction on my guitar journey.
Sick video. 🤙🏾
Great tutorial video, I really like how it is tabbed and has the sheet music right there. As well as the fast and slow demos. Everything I want in order to learn is right here
You're the best broski!!!! Thanks again for the knowledge! Blessings and wish you well.
trevor you're a God send
This probably the most useful video on this topic. Pls make more microlick videos in the future. Its highly appreciated.
you’re an amazing resource. thanks for all you do
It's really fun to try and play the riffs using different techniques. For example, you can use only tapping for the Never Meant style riff without using open strings! Really glad i'm finally able to at least play simple licks like these!
This is just what I needed. Thanx!!
Thanks man this is good stuff! Nice licks
great video man, working through these has been really helpful and a lot of fun! is there any chance you could make a video about writing multiple guitar parts in this style? one of my favorite things about groups like American Football is how seamlessly and effortlessly they're able to weave together multiple guitar parts into one cohesive idea, and I'd love to hear your advice/insight on the topic. love your videos and playing!
very cool trevor, love the content!!
Thank you for the valuable lesson!
Ok but why does number 5 sound exactly like Mayday Parade’s Keep In Mind, Transfiguration Is A New Technology? Had me screaminggggg 😩
Love content like this !
TREVOR!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!
Thank you Trevor, very cool
these look fun
Thank you so much for this video
I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR THIS
Thanks ever so much! It's funny how i can now imitate my all time favourite guitar sounds, at least try to 🙃
Dang..now Ima need one more gtar just to be tuned like that
More Videos like this please!!!
bro just watching this, I don't wanna touch my guitar today, I give up
you're an absolute saint
I love this, we’d love to see a standard one if you’re feeling froggy!
Excited to see myself getting the hang of the first one fairly quickly. Never knew how to start playing this style or if id even be any good.
I love this song it slaps
TMP! Such a special sound
back here for some inspiration
this is epic
In the first cord of#5 there’s two c’s where it should be c e.
I LOVE THISSSS i want to be able to play like this!!!! I just have an acoustic guitar though :(
You can play this on acoustic! It’s seriously just as fun and the good thing is once you get you an electric, your finger strength will be crazy and all this will be a breeze!
If only these tutorials existed when I was 19
Your strumming is interesting
This is so awesome. Will there be one for daeac#e and dadf#ae to ?
nice
this makes me want to get a tele
Need a tutorial on number 6
the jump from 5 to 6 is mad hahaha
I’ve never noticed until now I don’t know how to read the tab notation for tapping.
#5 is a cornerstone imo
This is first time ive actually found a genre i want to be able to play in 10 years of playing guitar. Unfortunately, im a shit self teacher and this style of play hits all my weakness so i feel like i just picked up a guitar for thr first time a week ago playing number 6
sometimes during the hammer on/pull off sections i struggle with keeping the lower strings from ringinjg for too long. Any tips on that?

Can we get something like this in standard? I love the sounds here but I know that they are just as doable in standard and would love to be able to extend my existing repertoire of techniques, rather than building a whole new set in a different tuning. That would be amazing!
Much harder to do so if you gonna play in std
Boi wth boi
@Kapālin whats your band? :)
lol it’s “doable” I guess
When tf did Midwest emo become its own genre... I’m from the fucking Midwest and somehow I missed this development
Mid 90s
The tmp and algernon styles are so spot on
How much content in FACGCE do you have in your Patreon page? Also, what kind? Songs? Exercises? More riffs?
r those klipsch klf series in the back?
Can anyone help with the chord at 0:52? I can't figure out what's going on. It really doesn't look like his pointer is on the 2nd fret of the C string, like the tab says.
Any tips for amp settings? I'm a little new and my amp sounds so.. wide? Idk how to describe it
is that pickguard parchment or mint green?
棒
Does standart e working for midwest?)
What pedal do you use
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
All of these just scream Rob Scallon
Made me sad in a good way
One question remains.... telecaster or strat?
which one should I buy
@@back2thapast I mostly see teles in this genre, but I've seen some people noodle on strats and they're pretty cool too!
I was never happy with the tone I was getting from my Strat, so I switched to Telecaster and I found it way easier to tap and hammer with a bright tone on Tele. Perhaps one could say Statocasters were NEVER MEANT to play midwest emo
Can an acoustic work because I m trying to play these on one.
@@yashsharma859 harder to play stuff like this on acoustic imo allthough it sounds great
Is this in standard tuning, or FACGCE? Sorry I’m new lol
How tf do you tune your guitar like that bro
I don't play licks per se. Are there any standard scales you go to for Math Rock and MWEmo?
you seem to slide instead of hammer ons/pull offs in a lot of these examples, why?
personal preference maybe?
sometimes I think slides can “feel” like they glue notes together more so than hammer-ons or pull-offs do. But I’m no expert.
@@zackschrum893 thats what i thought too but if hes showing us riffs that are supposed to teach us these techniques its kinda weird hes not playing these riffs the way we are supposed to
Bieniu Pro oh! now I understand what you mean.
It's probably easier for a beginner, I know hammer-ons and pull-offs were hard as fuck when I started out. They're a bit more of an advanced technique, not so much as the two-handed tapping he showed off on the Tiny Moving Parts but still tricky.
Teach us step by step and dokt act like we already know how to play mid west emo I wanna know how but no one has it step by step or make it easy for beginners it’s cool I wanna learn just teach it step by step dude
Way to fast and didn't even try to slow it down, money grab
