Embolden is so weird in every way. The fact that it has stacks and they fall off one at a time, dropping the effectiveness over time is weeeird. I kinda hope they just make it weirder.
thats not even the worst thing about it, its the most badly designed buff in the game. Falls off over time, doesnt buff the healers and casters, doesnt buff your PHYSICAL fleche and contre sixt, doesnt buff your PHYSICAL dash/backflip skills xD And it has been this way since stormblood and SE doesnt give a fck
@@ich3730 I think both Red Mage and Samurai were barely touched because they felt like their kits mostly just worked moving from Stormblood to Shadowbringers. They really did a number on some others. The older jobs have some real clunk that RDM and SAM just didn't have to deal with which is why some stuff got glossed over during the transition and was only sort of addressed later, like adding charges to Accelerate or letting you eat your Sen for Kenki for Samurai so you could at least start off with none (for Higanbana) before a dungeon boss.
@@axis1247 If you're talking about Brotherhood, then they buffed it with the overall reworking of the job so now the buff affects weaponskills AND spells.
it feels clearly designed to buff damage lost from missed positionals and melee out of position, and from rez sickness when you're in progression and bringing a rez mage
Swift is no longer used on cd for damage in most fights, as the mentioned drift can cause you to lose uses of fleche / c6 - which is more damage than the swift gains you. (Because of how long fights are generally) Use just for movement / fishing procs, trying not to use it so much that you lose a fleche. Amazing guide!
protip: acceleration at 13-10 secs, then start hardcasting @5secs on the countdown. gets you into the fight earlier and has better alignment with raid buffs. typically casting after the boss is pulled puts you about 2 gcds behind everyone else
@@sooprcoomr4828 is right. pop acceleration as soon as you see that 15s mark on screen. Having your second accel even one or two gcds earlier is a significant dps gain.
They really gave a single job cast times, melee skills, rng, a buff that doesn't affect certain classes, a dash both to and away from the target which are both part of your rotation, and cooldowns that don't line up with anything else.
Basically all of the reasons you say make the class weird or bad are the reasons I love it, lol. DNC is also pretty simple relatively speaking but both classes are fun to play and that’s what counts.
I main BLM for quite a while and now I'm a RDM in high end raids/dungeons. Love the class for being flexible, agile, and useful to the group. Main reason that I'm disappointed with BLM is how high end dungeons mechanic could be punishing for the BLM' s innate long spellcasting time.
Hey Misshapen thanks for that section on mobility of casters. I could never really articulate or understand why I felt that RDM felt harder than BLM when it came to movement intense situations beyond 2 GCDs. I'm talking about maximizing dps in harder content and not just surviving a mech. Sure moment to moment gameplay RDM is easily the most mobile but if a mech requires a ton of constant movement and you can't or didn't line up your melee combo you're out of luck. Of course enchanted reprise is an option but you rarely ever want to use it if possible. This is even tougher when your constantly in PF where as RDM you are kind of the default fill for melee or caster position depending on who is in the group. I recently switched over to BLM after hitting a legitimate wall in E11S PF (no static lol) and wow it feels so much smoother. The labbing of the perfect sps and building the mental enochian timer reflex was a severe learning curve, but damn this class just feels good.
Btw you should aim to not have your mana perfectly balanced because if you hit verflare/verholy with the one with least mana you get a guaranteed proc.
I wish they just didn't turn it into a staff and maybe just like... touched the focus to the rapier somehow, and launched the spell out of the tip of the sword.
the biggest problem i have with RDM is the changes they made with it going from Stormblood into Shadowbringers. I still forget that Verholy/Flare and Scortch over-write jolt Verthunder/aero and will hit the wrong thing and loose the combo where as you could accidentally start casting a jolt in stormblood and cancel it and still get your verflare/holy.
one thing to note about Verholy/Verflare. say you have less White Mana than Black Mana, but you already have a Verstone proc and the mana are within 9 of each other, use Verflare and fish for that Verfire proc. (the opposite also applies) Since you'd already have the Verstone proc, you just overwrite said Verstone proc. DON'T DO THIS IF IT CAUSES A MANA IMBALANCE!
The reason for the styling of the weapon is that in previous ff games the stick of the rdm was as a melee class that used ver spells to change the element of its attacks but since outside of the masked carnival and debuffs from some boss mechanics attack element doesn't matter they decided to change it to caster with a melee burst but keep the iconic weapon from past games
I'm a big Red Mage stan, but I really hate it for 3 big reasons: 1: Dual cast being lost when sprint activates (why? Just why?) 2: Embolden is good only for other physical melee (why did Yoshi decide it should be like this when other games I've played that has Embolden does it for both mages and melee) 3: It practically feels like where other jobs have the feel of level 80 I feel like RDM is technically feels like a level 40 job cause some of the attacks are basically the polar opposite of another.
This is why I love guides for optimization and tips but will never follow the actual mathematical meta. There is no world in which I am blasting my Corps a Corps for 130 potency of "dps optimization" when it is so useful for getting in for my dps rotation or moving out of a mechanic that isnt near the boss. What am i losing? 0.01% of my dps? For vastly superior and more comfortable gameplay.
