830 WHP BMW 335i Runway Racer - One Take

- I've been saying this since way back in 2009 when we first drove the BMW 335i: This is the new Supra. And in the era of Runway Racing, (and Supra's being too valuable to turn into race cars), the 335i is one of the more common sights putting up strong numbers on the airstrip. This particular car makes 830 WHP at full boost settings, thanks to a single, top-mount turbocharger and a fire cannon of a fuel system, running consistent high-160 MPH passes in the standing half mile. It's not meant for canyons, and in fact its owner has never even been in the canyons, but we NEED to feel what that kind of violent acceleration is like.

It's always scarier when you're not the one driving. Some people prefer to be in control. If I'm a passenger on a bike, I will already be very nervous at 15mph... while in the mean time, I would have no problem to ride it myself at 150mph (that's actually why I'm never ever a passenger). Probably the same with a car with that much horse power...

Nico Nel Luckily the 335I has somewhat good brakes. But not strong enough for 830 WHP. But damn that thing looks very beautiful, but perhaps not that safe.
Not trying to say it's okay but if you''re using it as a daily i highly doubt you'll be running 830 map and hammering it. Must be a struggle stopping on strip though.
Yea it's a shame the 335i didn't get the same brakes as the 135i. I love the 6 pot fronts on my 135i.
KirkerBezerker ! Pretty sure the discs are bigger on the 335i, just that it uses a massive single piston. BBK would be good on this car. Fairly pricey though for maybe just a little better braking.

Well that's BMW's cost as much as they do, it's not all about the numbers on paper, it's what's behind them.
He'll put a window in his block before too long, BMW's may be built well but they are not made for numbers like that with stock internals.

I know you noobs don't know anything about turbo builds, so I'll let you in on a secret; while normally the stock engine wouldn't be able to stand that amount of abuse (at least for long), running an oversized turbo (1100 hp, he's only at 950-980 with it) allows you to run less PSI and colder IATs, along with the help of e85 eliminating knock and further cooler the cylinder combustion temperatures. These factors work together to put less stress on the motor, despite the ridiculous number its producing.
Normally, PSI doesn't mean much (reliability wise) other than increasing knock, but in this case it also helps to run less PSI to help the stock valve springs and keep the valves from floating. This engine was originally built to be turbocharged, so the BMW fanboy saying that BMW is known for 'what's behind them' is pretty stupid, if the car was NA he would most likely at least need to upgrade the valvetrain, if not the bottom end as well.

+TrinityAmplify to me the probability of a 600+ hp 335i is high when I see thick non stretch tires, not slammed and exhaust that does not sound like the normal N54/55 because of turbo upgrade. The second you upgrade the turbo on these the sound changes.

@@UA-camHandlesAreStupid its because its tuned to do a spark cut not a fuel cut, its just unburnt fuel/carbon. Not losing oil or coolant. This helps cool the engine for the duration of the shift, which helps reduce knock when the rpms fall and boost is still stupid high when you grab the next gear.

It's easy to find a good used 335. I did, and went full bolt on + JB4. It is so much power and fun for the price.
i went Cobb + FBO and mine is still doing 400WHP with meth ... N54's are insane

I have a 335i e90 with 750 whp with almost the same build as this except a precision 6466 and partial e85 and it has stock internals. These cars are absolutely amazing you keep its tranquility and nice ride while being able to absolutely destroy it

I have an 08 N54 E90 335i sport package. She is still stock atm, about to install new chargepipe w/ BOV, upgraded Intercooler, DPs and MHD. My car is already a total blast to drive, I cannot even imagine driving your car or this 830hp car LOL.

Considering buying an e92 335i and doing minor modifications in the future Does the year factor in a lot? For example purchasing an 07 model over an 09? apart from the obvious k's and cosmetics of the car, Did BMW improve any mechanics or so in the new models leading up to 09?

These N54 335s are absolute beasts. For $2500 in mods (closer to 1k without an exhaust) you can have a 450WHP luxury car that gets 27 MPGs on the highway. I'm going to drive mine until it blows up and then find a low mileage one and start the process all over again :D
People seem so surprised that BMW know their Inline 6's. It was basically what they were known for during the 80's and most of the 90's. Even Toyota wants to use them now.

Well 335i's have decent brakes stock, not like 5 laps around Laguna Seca without problems decent. But as it's the top of the line 3 series, they're pretty good.

I think most the guys that chose the older N54 are "car" guys and are basically in it for the fun and enthusiasm of the community! I'm not a rich guy at all so I have a different mentality whereas a newer N55 powered F model guy may be a rich guy with different views etc. I know I looked for 6 months to find a clean one owner used 335i but it was worth it! Black on black, 62,000 miles all work/service done at BMW and all recalls and issues resolved by them as well. I came in with a blank canvas unmolested motor and it makes a vast difference when you start tuning to know you're not dealing with a time bomb. Anyone thinking of getting an older 335i DO IT!!! if you do complete this list as follows:
Walnut blast intake valves
Change plugs
Change oil (motul/redline)
Change tranny fluid (motul/redline)
Change diff fluid (motul/redline)
Hawk brake pads

i drive an 800hp pump gas 300zx on the street, it's definitely doable
835WHP but most of it is high end power once you wind the turbos, so you'll have a pretty normal car within 0-4k rpms which would be normal for a daily car

Being a former owner of a E92 335xi GIAC S2 thinking that car was silly fast, I can't even imagine how fast and fun this thing is. Not a huge fan of the sedan but I Love this thing. One of the best sleepers yet on this channel...well done! Great vid.

I hate people that complain about adds. Like get real we are watching free videos on UA-cam. People like Matt make these videos for us to watch with nothing in return least we can do is sit through an add ffs. Think it goes back to this entitled spoiled generation that has flooded the Internet over the past few years.
The problem is the inundation of the ads at every possible Avenue. Not only are there commercials in between content, but ad placement during. Adblock software was created to fill a need. When I was growing up I actually looked forward to the commercials. They were thoughtful and targeted. Think Chester the cheeto guy. Now commercials are lame with no thought or money put into them to make an enjoyable experience. It's a quantity over quality issue. In fact, BMW did a series of short movies as advertising awhile back and I watched every one. Creativity and art needs to come back into advertising, then the issue of adblock software will be obsolete once people want to see the ads.
The problem is the people who complain about ads yet still consume all the content with their ad block on. It makes you a complete douche.
+NLuKa420 first off, I don't use adblock. I never even mentioned that I did. My opinion still stands and is valid. People, by and large, are not idiots (I'll make an exception for you since you resort to name calling). They know that by blocking ads they are blocking revenue. That's why Matt and other quality producers of content usually get white listed. Because they, like myself, want to see him do well and keep making videos. Basically it levels the playing field between those wanting to force ads and those that are sick and tired of the incessant substandard quality cookie cutter ads.

But you have to admit that product placement and ads have become an abused revenue stream recently. Adblock is really the backlash to that rather than ads as a whole. I think that if a majority of ads were captivating then adblock software would never have been invented.

Yup 275/40/17 Toyo Proxes TQ deag radials daily.
He can probably hook fine since boost doesn't come in till 4500 and on. Maybe a little bit of fishtailing in the lower gears but BMW's are pretty easy to manage steering wise.
I'm pretty sure when you have 800+hp with a big turbo, its going to need good tires to get that power down, especially with a car that was not designed for drag racing and that can probably not fit that wide of a tire on the back..
