There is also a live recording of Berezovsky playing this piece done professionally and released on CD. The sound quality is much better in that performance. I have to say that though he didn't record all of the etudes, Berezovsky's performance outshines any of the others that I have heard.
it's an adrenaline rush to hear somebody play this piece at such speed with such accuracy. I think people who want it a bit slower should listen to other music because they obviously don't get the point of this kind of music.. boring people who perhaps are confronted with their own (musical) shortcomings.. I not only accept this performance, I love it!
I love Chopin, and I also love what Godowsky did with these etudes.. better yet, I LOVE the way Boris here plays 'em :-) so anyone here who wants to start discussing "how Chopin didn't intend this or that..." should just f... off and let the people who want to get musically satisfied enjoy the sonic tapestries composed by a brilliant mind - or brilliant minds - and played by a brilliant pianist .. so ..there. ;-)
I agree DeTinux, Hamelins recording is superior, he has more clarity between parts and does not rush so much. Berezovsky's Chopin is superb in all of these videos however
I love when these type of wannabe snobs who aren't even skillful themselves think they are so perceptive about piano music yet they can't realize the simple fact that a recording is maybe on a crappy digital camera and that might factor into the listening experience
@gojewla - Yes,I guess it was available on YT as well, and it did really sound far better, besides being a more brilliant performance omop:as impressive and powerful as delicately played with a heavenly touch. Alas I can't get it any more on YT. My best loved rendition along with Gavrilov's (still available on YT)
For the Godowsky, this is kind of a failure because the pp and murmuring is missed, the music with accents, the staccato vs legato contrast and numerous long notes are also ignored. Too bad.
Not necessarily. It depends on the day, and how he plays, etc. M.A. Hamelin or Leonid Egorov or Cziffra or Horowitz have not much at all to envy Berezowsky.
Courageous attempt, but unsteady, blurry Chopin, and Godowsky sounding more like "God's-off-key!" Should sound softly suave,silky,subtle,sinuous,sensuous.... rather than the lumpy, loud, labored labyrinth offered here. The "Best is the enemy of the (quite)good"....comparison with Hamelin or Libetta here is unforgiving.
@@arturosommariva5769 Or someone, an artist, a pianist, a musician, etc. It sounds a lot less mysogynist. But then why not correcting your original post ?
Hardness is not a one dimention metric, unlike what its name suggests. Music is not about hardness, Chopin and Godowsky music is not about hardness, life is not about hardness. Poor devil. The 3e études has this fingering, on the LH, but one can't say it's harder than the 4e études. It's actually a lot easier to read than the 4e. At higher tempi, who knows. Nobody plays it fast (like presto or prestissimo like 2 op 10).
Stephen Fry is just so talented at everything! :p

Berezovsky is a monster. What incredibly technical skill. He and Kissin are my favorites.
oh wow just randomly found one of my own comments 11+ years later LOL

Man this guy has one of the most awesome techniques I've ever seen!! INCREDIBLE!

this is chopin etude and one godowsky version which is 100 times harder. Luckily I am not a pianist : b
Yeah, I agree.
Holy crap at the Godowsky version O_o

12 Transcendental studies,

His technique is second to none.

godowsky version is almost impossible
I tried to play it,but it's too difficult,I don't know how a man can do it
or a woman ?
@@MathieuPrevot ok, I didn't meant that, let's be like "a human being"

it is 100 times harder, but it's just raping the piece. In my opinion.
Godowsky seems to have discarded playing chromatics with the last three fingers, so technically it should be easier? I have no idea though.
