I think the thing I'm most curious about is what ingredients are heat protective, outside of the ones with the "icone" suffix. I'm in the market for a curl cream and trying to figure out if I should look for one with heat protection or just buy one separately.

    • @hgib3
      @hgib3 3 роки тому

      I have found a shampoo that works well at removing hard water build-up, it says it desolves minerals, chlorine and hard water build-up. I have a lot of iron in my well water and do not use a filter (as of now) but have a chelating shampoo I bought at Sally's Beauty Supply called Quantum Clarifying Shampoo for deep cleaning to remove build-up. It comes in a 1L bottle. I normal buy it when there is a buy 1 get 1 free offer but it us worth it full price since it is used as needed, once or maybe twice monthly. I recommend a good conditioning afterwards.

    Love your product advice! The only thing I would add is that moisturizers - especially leave in - that have hyaluronic acid or glycerin within the first 10 ingredients, you need to be careful of in dry cold climates as these products can actually pull moisture from your hair into the air if the air is dryer than your hair. For those in high humidity climates this isn't really much of an issue in winter for you but those in really dry climates add winter drying conditions to it, those ingredients will work in reverse to pull moisture from your hair to the air. It's just the science of the ingredient it doesn't matter where you put the ingredient it's going to moisturize what needs to be moisturized the most, in other words it's job is to pull moisture to the driest location. When I use these products I have to make sure I seal before I go outside because of it. I live in NM so it's crack dry in the spring, summer, fall, and there is no words to define the dry here in winter... I'm pretty sure the surface of the sun has more moisture than here! Lol! Great ingredients just not in super dry climates. Sealing products are a must to trap those in so they can't escape. Thanks again... I'm thinking our hair product drawer/ shelf look much the same! Smiles

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  3 роки тому +1

      Do you find that it still affects your hair if you use a deep conditioner with humectants? I would think that because its a rinse out product and not a styling product such as a leave-in, cream, or gel, that it wouldn't impact it as much.

    • @imyourhappydrug
      @imyourhappydrug 3 роки тому +1

      @@GenaMarie I'm in Australia and we do have a bit of a low humidity climate at times, definately very dry summers. I avoid HA when humudity is low because even when I try to lock it in with a heavier cream and stronger hold gel, I just don't feel happy with the final result, I feel like I'm fighting against the elements.

    How do you suggest I use a deep conditioner with low porosity hair? I've seen some people use a deep conditioner as their last step, wash it out and then style as usual. However, I have also seen some women use a clarifying shampoo 1st, then deep condition, then shampoo and regular conditioner.

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  3 роки тому +1

      I would clarify first, then use a deep condition. Shampooing/clarifying is said to raise the cuticle slightly so that would help before deep conditioning. Then when deep conditioning, add a heated camp or wrap your hair in something and hover your diffuser to help open up the cuticle so the deep conditioner can absorb.

    The briogeo mask has spirulina, spinach and biotin in it 🤔 spirulina and spinach do contain protein and i heard you should aldo avoid biotin if you are protein sensitive. But I heard so many people saying it is protein free. Can someone explain to that to me? Is it protein free or not and why? 🤔

    • @GenaMarie
      @GenaMarie  Рік тому

      The Briogeo website says it's protein-free. It reads: "A deeply nourishing, protein-free hair mask scientifically proven to boost moisture for softer and more manageable hair after 2 uses."
      Spirulina and spinach do not contain enough protein to be considered a protein when formulated and broken down into ingredients for hair products. Biotin can sometimes be a strengthening ingredient but it depends on the formulation. The only protein ingredients that are important to look out for if you have coarse and/or low-porosity hair include those such as "hydrolyzed wheat protein." Those plant proteins mainly sit on the surface of the hair, leading to that stiff feeling. Ingredients such as amino acids are better suited for those hair types because they penetrate and don't form that brittle feeling on the surface.
