Simple question is why don't you have to prove that the vertical asymptotes of tan(3x) fall on the 1-(tan(x))^2=0? It doesn't, yet you are still aloud to get rid of the terms from the bottom of fractions without specifying x can't equal pi*n/2+pi/4, it seems like some of the identities you are citing create more asymptotes to me. I guess it has something to do with it resulting in infinity over infinity, not a scalar over infinity when those denominators are zero. Been a while since I took a math course. I just don't like getting rid of variables in denominators so quickly.
