was this post 1990? he had quadruple by-pass and was very ill in 1990. He smoked, but that was not the cause of his triple-by-pass heart surgery. He had no ailments from smoking 2 to 3 packs a day for 40 years.

(Debbie Reynolds continued to say that she was 17 in Singing in the Rain, even though she was 19) - here he must have been 53, almost 54(not 52 as he says)
1979. I saw him in that performance in Portland, Oregon at St. Mary's Academy. My friend's boss' daughter was the seventeen year old girl who starred with him then. She got us tickets to see her perform with Donald. It was a great performance!
I grew up with Joe Franklin shows. Joe was about the most generous, gracious host ever.
